You can see that trying to happen with Lingard, though - when he cuts in, VDB goes out wide to compensate. No one is making that swap for Mata as well, VDB can only cover one flank at a time. AWB should be the one charging up to provide width, since Matic is covering for him anyways. That's not happening, and you can see Ole shouting at him for that.

I'm a little disappointed he hasn't been more of a threat from set pieces, as I thought that was one benefit we'd have from having him in the team. Still like him as a player and hope he gets a few more goals this season. About time we were useful from corners again.

I can sort of see why Ole hasn't trusted him when our front three of Greenwood, Martial and Rashford have looked tired and needed freshening up. Seems like a great idea on paper, but he's not the player we desperately need right now. At least not the level of player we need.

Mata has never been a fast player as far as I'm concerned. Pace has never been his problem as well. His current problem is that most of his passing are pointless sideways with little penetration.
