Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Rashford wouldn’t have been part of the match day squad regardless of his illness when the likes of Bruno and Ugarte are back today. Amorim mentioned that the reason why Rashford was on the bench last game is due to some first team players not being available, which says a lot about Rashford who made the bench but didn’t come on as a sub..

It's been used 2-3 times under Amorim as reason for missing training or games.

Has it really? I genuinely thought Amorim used it specifically for this game. From what I recall, the other instances seemed more related to a lack of effort in training—at least that's the impression I got from reading between the lines.

Glad to see Maz back at WB but do worry about the legs of a defence with both De Ligt and Maguire in it

Mazraoui and Dalot on wingback. Dreadful. But perhaps the defensive approach is suited for this game. Keep a nill and hope for a fluke penalty in the 102th minute. Liverpool always gets mad stoppage time.

Almost the best possible line-up (in this formation). But I would prefer Yoro instead of Martinez, who risks getting bullied again.

I would of preferred 1 attacking wing back and anyone other than hojlund. Also got reservations against playing Martinez in this one.

But it is what it is. Would take a narrow defeat now in all honesty. How depressing.

Apart from the games we played Eriksen and Casemiro as the midfield pairing, our open play defending has been good under Amorim throughout, and Dalot has played pretty much every minute. It's set piece defending and nobody to score goals which are the main issues.

That’s a good point. However, from a balance perspective, having Malacia, who’s left-footed, provides a natural width to the attack. He can drive to the byline and deliver crosses, whereas Dalot, being right-footed, tends to cut back more often, which can limit the fluidity of play on that flank.

Once again a much too negative lineup. He’s digging his own grave a little bit at the moment. No excuse for not picking at least one attacking wing-back.

I’d love us to do well and zirks come off bench and nab a goal.

But just in case, I have my happy meds ready for half time boost….

Their bench is better than our First XI in the same position. Unbelievable.
I'm surprised Konate is straight back into their team. I thought he'd be on the bench and we'd be able to target Quansah in some way. Just our luck.

For feck's sake - bit gutted to see we're going with Dalot and Mazraoui again. Seems like one of the only parts of the team that Amorim has settled on and it's the part that's most dysfunctional.

Fingers crossed we've now had a fifth training session and he has taught them how to attack. Though maybe he figures that we're not going to be doing much attacking anyway, with five parked at the back and relying on Diallo, Fernandes and Hojlund on the break.

Amorim has said himself our players are anxious, they panic, they lack confidence, there’s no leadership. Unless he’s inspired them somehow in ways we’ve not seen before, we know exactly how this goes.

In an attempt to be somewhat positive - our lineup is stronger than the team Rangnick fielded at Anfield 3 years ago, or the lineup Ten Hag fielded 1 year ago. If we can keep it tight in the first 30 minutes then I have faith we'll grow into the game.

Once again a much too negative lineup. He’s digging his own grave a little bit at the moment. No excuse for not picking at least one attacking wing-back.
I’ve been quite critical up to this point but you can understand him going defensive in this one!

Dodgy gk, slow and out of form back line, wingbacks who are in fact full backs, midfield without creator and attacker who can't hold up the ball.

This will be a looooong game for every United fan.

Which won't be what the manager wants.
I tend to agree. Hope to see the results of his ideas for them a bit today. Dalot, for all his faults, does try to get forward. Not too sure about Maz at RWB although I'm aware there's not really any other choice at this point.
