Let's go there and play or game. Frankly I don't care if we play 2 or 3 in midfield, Mou is likely to continue with 2 in midfield + a number 10.

While people say we'll be vulnerable against them in such set up, so would they. I'm expecting a midfield of Pogba and Herrera with Mata in the 10 role.

United were playing utter garbage in the last two seasons and still made it to top four in one of the seasons and finished with same tally of points as the team finishing fourth last season. I will not be too surprised if a team dropped six to eight points from top four going into the second half of the season and came back to finish second or third simply because the sure contenders for top four start dropping points randomly. The level of consistency shown by the so called traditional top teams have been very poor over the period of last few seasons and I do not expect that to change anytime soon. I get what you're saying though. It's better to be safe than sorry. We cannot really afford to finish anywhere below top three this season if we are to grow into potential title conrenders for the next season. But I do think even if we or any other team struggles with the results, they will still be given bucket load of chances to make it back into the top four. Being consistently dominant is near to impossible in this league and it could be attributed to both lack of world class quality in top EPL teams and improving standards of the mid table teams. So I wouldn't worry about the league standings too much as long as we stay somewhere close to the top four going into the second half of the season. Of course I do believe that United will do much better than just being in and around top four.

I just don't want to see us get too far adrift as our own consistency is as big of an issue as those ahead and with Chelsea away coming immediately after we could get cut loose. That's why I've got no objection to Jose taking a negative approach to this game in his set-up.

We beat Leicester 4-1 after the last international break. Still reckon you'll beat us though. Too much doom & gloom on here. The pundits are backing Liverpool. & Klopp's just been named Manager of the month. It's nailed on a United win.
I can't seem to shake the same feeling. It's hard to picture United losing and finding themselves even further behind going into an away game at Chelsea. A defeat wouldn't hurt us much as long as we bounce back and go on another winning run in the next few fixtures leading up to Everton in the middle of December.

I'd love it so much if my feelings were wrong on this game.

I would take a draw but I want to atleast see a decent performance. We have tended to come out of anfield with good results but have rode our luck on many occasions. It'll be good to put a decent performance and get a result with it. What I find baffling looking everywhere around the media is how Liverpool players are being overhyped. Not too long ago the likes of milner, henderson and lallana were seen as average by many pundits and even Liverpool supporters. Now they are simply amazing. It's all knee jerk. They have played really well this season but it's too early to tell whether they can sustain the pressing game into the winter months.

Our season has been a mixed bag but generally our game has been vastly improved from last season. We are creating better chances and getting the ball foward more quickly. We're dealing with fine margins and knee jerk reactions at the moment. Hell even pogba hasn't been as bad as people are making out. He's created gilt edge chances for the likes of ibra and missed sitters. It'll soon come good.

    Gone for:

    de Gea
    Valencia Bailly Smalling Blind
    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Lingard Ibrahimovic Rashford
    ---
    Subs: Martial, Fellaini, Mata

Would personally like to see Martial from the start over Lingard, but I think Jose will be slightly cautious.

    DDG
    Valencia Bailly Smalling Blind
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata
    Mkhitaryan Zlatan Martial

A lot banking on Herrera in my opinion. Needs to have a good game.

I've just seen the table. If United win then it'll be 3 points separating 1st and 6th. I genuinely think there are six teams capable of winning the title this season, with very little dividing them as contenders.

I'm going tomorrow night and I haven't looked forward to a game this much for a long, long time. I absolutely love away trips to Anfield: the atmosphere, the tension, the 'unity' amongst our fans. It's what football is all about and I can't wait.

The one rule tomorrow is that the players have to give everything. Our tactics, how we set up... it's all pointless if we don't get the mindset right. Not all about flying into tackles, it's about having the confidence to take the ball when you've got a stadium full of fans wanting blood and showing that courage. If we win the 50/50's we'll be half way there though and the first 20 mins or so will be important IMO. The players need to stand up and be counted. Good teams have that mindset and games like tomorrow can really change a season if you win.

Just seen breaking news that the FA are going to investigate Jose's comments on the referee. This is insane - he didn't bloody say anything controversial about the blasted ref! The press starts making a big deal and the FA reacts to that:rolleyes: How fecking stupid are they?! Causing a problem for no reason at all.

How ridiculous, it's a mountain out of a molehill. I wonder if someone on the side of Liverpool pushed for this, just like they did with Andre Gray.

No too stair the pot but why not just say 'I have nothing to say about the referee' don't give them the option

It's mad. I'm sure there was a manager who got cautioned for complimenting a referee fairly recently. I think it was Ancelotti and Howard Webb.

I agree. Managers should know better and just say nothing at all. It appears to be against the rules to talk about a referee at all before a game, though as usual, the FA's execution of that rule (like all rules) is massively inconsistent.

Perhaps, but he still hasn't said anything inappropriate. If I recall, Liverpool supporters and press people were the ones that started making a big deal out of this initially. As if it really will have any effect on the outcome of the game. It's a stupid and unnecessary distraction. Lucky for you Fergie isn't still around, he would have primed the players mentally to go out and shut everyone up.

Honestly, the FA really don't have anything better to do. They are so enthralled to press campaigns. Completely useless lot.

Ah then this is a win-win for me then. Liverpool win and I'll be overjoyed, don't win and I get to see a bragard lose 100k.
This isn't bragging this is reality. And if I can bet this amount, I'm prepared to lose it. I make this back easily. :)And yes its a win-win situation for me too as well. United lose and the odds on top 4 go up.

To be I couldn't give a shit if Gary Neville is the Ref. I fully expect him to discharge his duties without bias who ever he is.

Personally I have no idea when anyone watches press conferences anyway. I haven't seen a Liverpool managers press conference for as long as I can remember and certainly not opposition managers. It's all bull shit and head games and when it's not it the same script rinse repeat 'we respect the opposition, we concentrate on our own game and so on.

None of it interests me and don't understand why anyone else is interested. Takes all sorts I suppose

Could you show a screenshot of one of your previous big bets? I've got a feeling you're telling porkies.

I doubt anyone with any sense gives a shit - except for the FA, our stupid press, and fans with nothing better to do. It's just infuriating that with everything else that needs attention in the game, the FA decide to make shit like this a priority.

It would be folly to think that any referee would be deliberately going onto a pitch to favour one side or the other, having said that - the fact that it has been raised, does make it now an issue and not because he would make a decision based on appeasing one club or another, but because for me, those assigning referees and especially in big games like this, have got it wrong - they should ensure there is absolute transparency and clarity in the choice of an official or anything related to not just this game, but any game.
The body that has called for this appointment has to take a long look at itself, as it has now put an additional amount of pressure and scrutiny on a referee, who for the nature of the fixture, will already be under a large amount of pressure and scrutiny. A daft appointment but not for the reasons of bias, but of transparency.

Jose didn't say that though, just that the ref would be under incredible pressure.

Which is my point, the issue isn't with the managers, the fans, the players or the official - its with those that make the decisions on who officiates where.
Lets be honest here, a Liverpool v Man United game is always going to come under a lot of scrutiny in every detail - so why leave yourself open and add pressure onto someone, who will no doubt do his best, but will now be overly scrutinised for virtually every decision he makes. It will make a tough job even tougher.

Its a stupid choice and as mentioned, not for bias, but for transparency.

The 'complaint' if there actually is one, as supposed to just a load of steam. Is that the guy lives in Manchester. No one has claimed he has sympathys towards unites. If he shouldn't officiate this game does that mean that any refs living in London should not officiate any London based teams?

Could you show a screenshot of one of your previous big bets? I've got a feeling you're telling porkies.
I don't care if you believe or not.
I live my own life and I don't have to prove to you anything or anyone I don't know personally for that matter.

Fair point, though(and only looking at the prem) if there are 5 teams from London, you would need no more than 5 non-London based referees. Usually you will need less as there is usually more than 1 London team playing outside London.
Remember my point is about giving the referees the best platform and least amount of pressure for them to do their job, its not about bias, but transparency.

Yep. I was being a bit of a devils adcocate. I'm inclined to agree, less said about the officiating staff both before during and after any game (particularly one of this magnitude) the better.

We will adopt the tactics we deployed in the second half against city. We might see Felliani.

It's mad. I'm sure there was a manager who got cautioned for complimenting a referee fairly recently. I think it was Ancelotti and Howard Webb.

The way I remember it was: we were about to play Chelsea (I think at Stamford Bridge). The referee was appointed (might've been Webb, but I thought it was Atkinson), so the press asked Sir Alex about his appointment since that ref had screwed-us over in the past. Sir Alex complemented the referee and left it at that. The same weekend, Ancelotti was asked the same thing and he replied with the same thing - basically complementing the referee. Unprompted, the FA then sprang into action and immediately issued Sir Alex a warning for his comments. This was made public, as usual, and that was the end of it as far as the FA was concerned. The press however picked-up on that Ancelotti had done that same thing, but the FA had not done anything about it. Someone in the press contacted the FA and asked about Ancelotti not getting the same warning as Sir Alex for making the same comments. Only then did the FA issue a warning to Ancelotti.

That's how I remember it anyway - ridiculous situation, but enough for the FA to launch against Sir Alex. Shame for Ancelotti that someone in the media asked a question to the FA; he'd otherwise have gotten away without a word seemingly.

The closer we get to the game, the more I want United to win.

This is the kind of match that we would mess up consistently over the last couple of seasons - i.e. we are nearly there, but just can't take advantage of the situation and close the gap. Under Fergie, these were the kind of games we managed to win. United always seemed to make it "hard for themselves" and then manage to win in the big moments.

    Come on United!

Fellaini for Carrick, and it will be my team.

I'd forgotten that Fergie was involved too.

If the journos are asking questions about topics that managers are prohibited from discussing, then they should be getting thrown out and subsequently banned from pressers. FA should be dishing out warnings/fines to them as well.

Is it me or is this match getting a tad overhyped. Don't get me wrong it's always huge, biggest game in English football for me. It just seems with the wait after the international brake, the fact that it's underfloodlights, our new stand, first meeting of the managers with these clubs etc that it's taken on an extra dimension. A poster on here referred to it as uniteds cup final.

Worst case scenario for us we are 3 points off the top..worst for you your 6 points off the top with 29 games to play.

Yes it's huge as always but it's hardly definitive.

    Anyone else get this vibe?

The BBC website has one of those "pick your best 11 from Liverpool and Utd players of the past"
No matter how I look at it I just cant seem to find any room for a liverpool player. The only one that is close for me would be Clemence over Schmeickel but even there I have to pick the Utd keeper.
