Wow, what happened? These are some awfully pessimistic predictions. More than half are predicting a Liverpool win.

I can't say what it'll be, I'd like a win, but if we make those silly mistakes we won't get it. If we do win I expect something scrappy, like a 2-1 win.

Last 2 years it's been the same. Full of pessimistic predictions before the game and we won both. IIRC it was even more pessimistic before Juanfield as they were on superb run of victories.

Last season (Form before game at Anfield)
ManUtd - 6 games - 3 defeats, 2 draws and 1 win. (In the last 8 games we won 1 game, drawing 4 and 3 losses)
Liverpool - 6 games - 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. (Prior to that they won against Chelsea away and City away)

    2014-15 season
ManUtd - 6 games - 4 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss (This is the only time when we played superb football under Van Gaal)
Liverpool - 6 games - 5 wins and 1 draw. (Prior to this game they won 10 out of 13 games with 3 games ending in draw)

If anything form really goes out of window when ManUtd and Liverpool play each other.

Jose hates Liverpool as much as we do. Will be interesting if nothing else.

All the pessimism in here is seriously fecked up. We're fecking Man utd!! And we have the best manager in the world. No way we're losing this fixture. Mata will play. Players will be up for it. We'll absorb their pressure and hit them on the counter.

The big question is who are the best starting 11?

The two thoughts I have for the starting 11:

    1. Keep Rooney and Fellaini out of the side.
    2. Smalling can't play this game. He will get pressed by Liverpool and will have a mistake in him. Blind and Bailly should start.

I have a feeling Zlatan will get more than one goal here & we'll win the game. Wouldn't be surprised to see a tactic deployed of getting as many corners as we can given. We have a few giants in the team and are playing of the worst teams at defending set pieces.

I have a feeling we will win this one convincingly. I just do. Last time I had the same feeling was before Leicester match and I even correctly predicted the 4-1 scoreline. The feeling doesn't stem from a mere hunch though. I am looking the way Liverpool play and the way United play and feel like we could see a repeat of our 3-1 victory under LvG. Despite the Stoke result (scoreline largely flattered Stoke), I think United are improving in their general play and I expect bit more freedom for our creative players against Liverpool as compared to likes of Stoke etc.

Liverpool on their day can probably beat just about any team but I am simply not convinced Klopp's team and his style of "heavy-metal" football can mount a title challenge and/or go on a prolonged impressive run in a league where more than five teams are well capable of beating one another. I still expect them to be very unpredictable and have ups and downs and, hopefully, Monday is the day they go down .

They'll attack us with pace, something that our defence really struggles with. We need to make sure we're not pulled all over the show, then we need to counter with equal pace, something else I'm not sure we will do. This is why I'm not massively confident about the game.

    Does it?

This will go two ways. Either a 4-0 thrashing or we actually come out fighting and nick a 0-1

We regularly get pulled all over the place by quick attacking and end up with an opposition player with acres of space to take a shot.
This happens against worse teams than Liverpool.

Except Liverpool are not the better team. They have a squad full of midtable players and lets not forget that they lost to Burnley. I see no reason why we can't destroy them when we destroyed Leicester who have the better players.
We could go on an unbeaten run till January and there'd still be people harping on about us losing to Burnley.

I'm hoping to see a bit more adaptability from Mourinho. I fear that if we play Pogba and Herrara in a midfield 2 that may be a mistake and lead to us being too open at the back. My memory from the Fergie era was how he always used to surprise with his selections and adapt his teams to the opposition. So far we haven't seen that so much from Mourinho, but he has done so in the past with his other teams so it may be that he still getting to know his players.

I would like to see a front three of Martial, Ibra and Rashford with Pogba, Herrera and Carrick behind them in a 4-3-3 that would make us more solid at the back, but give us players who can get the ball forward quickly with creative passing going forward, whilst having speed up front from Martial and Rashford.

Slightly nervous for this fixture, but whenever I have felt that way in the past we have performed well. So we will see. I predict 2-1 to United.

Maybe play a bit defensive against this very attacking Liverpool side. I Mourinho needs to change the team setup a bit.

    --------------De Gea
    Valencia--Bailly--Smalling--Rojo
    -------Carrick----Blind-----------
    Rashford-----Pogba------Martial
    -----------Ibrahimovic------------

But do we? I'd say we have some of the best attackers in the league, at least.

You do know that we beat Leicester by the exact same scoreline that you did?

Fecking hell, I hope the majority of you lot aren't in the crowd next week at Anfield.

The lack of belief in this thread is staggering. :wenger:

Pogba, play some killer passes ffs.

    Martial, skin some defenders ffs.

    Zlatan, take your chances ffs.

Yeah, we've been quite good despite the few disappointing results so I really don't get the pessimism.
Liverpool barely beat Swansey, scored late with a pk, so they're not good as their form makes it look.
They have had 4 pens in 7, if we've had decisions going our way too and Zlatan and Pogba not missing sitters we'd be huffing and buffing around here.

Could end up with a midfield three of Henderson, Can and Coutinho.

I think Can could be someone United could exploit given his lack of football this season.

Seem a little silly to me comparing Man Utd v hull/stoke and Liverpool v Burnley.

All different games and if you think this is going to be anything less than a fecking tight game then you're on a different planet.

Forget form, it's going to be a really enjoyable game and that's enough for me.

Still predicted a Liverpool win 4-1 though :D

    Hendo-can
    Firmino

Behind a front three of mane, Sturridge and Coutinho is pretty good though. Arguably our best line up on paper. Main worry is that it hasn't really been tried yet and wijnaldum, Lallana and hendo is a very well oiled midfield.

Let beat them and make it 3 in a row at Anfield in the league.

    It was a joke fella:)

    Hmm, if you insist ..

I don't actually think it will be a close game, I don't know who will come out on top but I think it will be down to how they start, we need to be quick off the mark, conceding an early goal will really set the tone for this match for either side.

This is the Caf, people love seeing themselves panic.

The break came at a bad time, we've gone through 2 weeks of reading some defeatist posts while these same people have gone on hyperbolic like rants about how Liverpool will trash us.

Heck people have now gone as far as to claim Liverpool have a better team than us and all that nonsense. It's a bit of chaos in here but hopefully the match happens and shut some people up.

Who has said Liverpool have better players than we do?

Wijnaldum was injured yesterday. Probably not 100% for the game?

Hamstring I believe, unlikely he will play. Will be missed as he has been very effective so far. Lallana probably doubtful too.
Not ideal if both are injured.
