Is that sarcastic in some way? What's a top team, may I ask? By your definition, it looks like clubs which can throw lots of money at the shiniest new thing - despite what it adds to the team!

Anyway, those 3 players you are talking about are currently playing better than any of our 'top' players except maybe Rashford. If we want to win the game next week, we need to keep those three quite, and it is definitely not as easy as you make it sound.

More @Jaybomb rubbish mate. It's common on LFC subjects.

Mahrez is on a completely different level to those 3.

Coutinho is a one trick pony and Firmino is slow. Mane is a solid player though. But I don't think any of the "top" teams in the PL would sign him. He wouldn't make it in a City, United or Chelsea line up, would he? Would any of Liverpool's players?

Mate, you come accross as incredibly biased. Try to be a little bit more objective because it's getting ridiculous.

Just realised it's on a Monday, still more than a week to go. Piss off internationals nobody likes you:(

Aye, I just hope nobody picks up a knock. That's always the worst thing when it happens before an important match. It's also comforting to know we have far less 'important' South-American players than Liverpool so that gives us that small advantage.

A handful of Watford fans (who broke a 30yr old record btw) won't be as loud as a couple of noisy scousers after a win over United! It's personal when it's Liverpool, mate.
True, I forgot to take their supporters into account. I know my mate and auntie won't shut up about it if they win.

We are gonna win 3-2 or 4-3 , man of the match contenders Herrera, Zlatan and maybe Martial

Get the early goal and it's golden. Anfield houses the league's worst fans, hey won't be much help to 'Pool.

Set pieces could be key for us in this game. Liverpool are hilariously bad at defending set pieces so surely we'll be looking to likes of Zlatan, Pogba and Smalling etc.

I'd back Zlatan against their defenders in aerial duels as well so I hope our crossing is on point in this game.

This is why Blind has to start.

I'm guessing you have never been to a pool v utd game or you having a little wum?

Add him to the same list as @Jaybomb mate - just ignore. Neither have anything constructive to say, like ever - even the United fans think the same.
It's school playground stuff with them.

You are right, our set piece defending is scarily bad at times.

He takes the free kicks and corners I assume?
Corners yeah, he got 2 assists from corners against Leicester and it was he and Mata who did the move for Rashfords goal in the same match.

Free kicks will be Ibra if it's close enough to shoot but Mata if not, with Mata taking the corners from the right side as well, Blind on left.

    Rooney
i'd take mata out and put carrick in as cdm
pog and ander offer no protection

Hope we pack the midfield, Pogba and Herrera with a holding midfielder behind to cover them and provide support for the defence and their quick attacks.

If we're not at the races we could get an absolute pasting, the scousers have started well and will be up for it.

I'd be delighted with a point.

IMO, Mkhi should start. I know this is a high octane game and all, but Mkhi has had a long break (no internationals) and has had time to recover. His pace and teamplay will be key as I don't believe Mourinho will start Mata against a counter-press team like Liverpool.

The last time Miki started was against MCFC. That was his first start. He was so bad, he got hooked at half time. He hasn't played since that game.
We are now going to play the 2nd best team we have played this season and you want Miki to go into that game?
Are you trying to destroy his confidence?

LFC play with power and aggression - more so than MCFC; and we all saw what happened in the MCFC game - it was like watching a deer in headlights.
I realise that some of you want to see a shiny new toy play in every game, but Miki is low on confidence (this is normal after returning from injury and being hooked in his last game for us) and will need a few games to learn the speed at which EPL games are played.

To put him straight into the LFC game would be cruel. If he gets hooked again in that game, his MUFC career maybe over, before it ever gets started.

    Agreed on all points.

He was still injured when playing against City.

Not at all. Liverpool, whether their fans want to admit or not, are a mid-table team.

A top team is a team that wins trophies. United are renowned for it, thats why they can get the big players. They're the "Bayern Munich" of the English league. Yes, we finished 5th last season, but we won the FA Cup. Liverpool can't be compared to United in this day and age.

City and Chelsea would be "big teams" in England. Arsenal would probably be next. They attracted the likes of Ozil, Cech and Sanchez afterall, and they seem to consistently finish in the top 4.

You're giving the 'Pool too much credit. They JUST managed to beat Arsenal despite going 4-1 ahead. And that was without Koscielny, Ozil and Giroud. They had the likes of Chambers and Holding in defense but people seem to overlook that. They got thrashed by Burnley. They beat Leicester but so did we. They got a good win against Chelsea, I'll give them that one. Besides that, they've been just beating crap teams. To say they're "title contenders" is a joke.

Mate, you come accross as incredibly biased. Try to be a little bit more objective because it's getting ridiculous.
    Not biased. Realistic.

Even if Liverpool win on Monday, which I don't think they will, it won't mean much in the long run because United will finish above them... just like they always do.

The last time Mkhi started, he was injured. He was not at his optimal because he was not fully fit and If I remember correctly, he has been injured ever since, which is why he hasn't started. I know the pressure will probably be a lot which is why I had had my doubts - otherwise Mkhi is an obvious choice.

How do you judge a football style solely by power and aggression? MCFC's style and Liverpool's style are not at all similar - one employs possession football with little triangles with emphasis on 'pass and move' (which makes it hard to control the game but allows pressing) while Liverpool is Counter-Pressing personified; they are more aggressive, not effective (they let in 3 against Arsenal's depleted frontline, 2 against burnley). Also, the derby (first-half, notwithstanding) wasn't that bad especially if you look at our spirited comeback attempt, and Bravo's antics. I believe a fair score would have been a draw, it clearly wasn't 'deer in headlights' bad.

To put him straight into the LFC game would be cruel. If he gets hooked again in that game, his MUFC career maybe over, before it ever gets started.

And therein lies the risk, but I believe it should motivate him more to know that even though he's been out injured - the manager recalls him for 2 of the most important games so far this season; he was player's player of the year in bundesliga last year ffs!

Liverpool have had more possession that Arsenal and Spurs. There are more similarities between Citeh and Liverpool than you seem to recognise. Liverpool are more willing to retain possession this season than Klopp's Dortmund.

I don't know if I would drop Mata, but I think we need Carrick for this one. Play Carrick, Herrera, Pogba in midfield and Mata out wide if anything. He's done well against Liverpool.
FFS do people have short memories? Mata has to play.

Can't see us winning it as we are too easy to play through in my opinion

All the pessimism in here is seriously fecked up. We're fecking Man utd!! And we have the best manager in the world. No way we're losing this fixture. Mata will play. Players will be up for it. We'll absorb their pressure and hit them on the counter.

The big question is who are the best starting 11?

This. feck that hipster cnut and their pretentious "gegenpressing". They're going to get burned out by New Year's and we'll 100% finish above them. COME ON!

Fecking Brazilian Fat Sam has decided now is the time to start playing Firmino and Coutinho. Twat.

Both players will be sub par next Monday. I'm expecting both to concede possession easily to your players (as is the case when they're not on form). Your strikers will not let us off the hook as a result. Lallana will also be feeling his way back in after injury. There goes the gegenpressen.

Best time to play us. I reckon Utd to win 2-0 or 2-1 (one set piece and one breakaway goal).

Why are they not on form?

While I personally feel we'll lose somewhat convincingly, this really is a great opportunity for us. A win here could be a season-defining victory.

I think they'll be fine. Firmino was only a sub in that game. If they have poor performances next week it'll be because Mourinho has done something tactically to nullify them. That's my big concern going into this game, that Mourinho will come up with a plan to beat us. It's easy to see us losing the game if it's 0-0 or we're losing by half time.

It all hinges on what team Mourinho picks and whether or not the players take on board what he wants from them, because it's pretty easy to pick our starting XI and we all know how this Liverpool team is going to play.

We were second on the possession table last time I checked (we might be first now after City's game at Spurs). People think that because we employ a pressing game that we don't have much of the ball like Leicester last season, but we're a very possession based side. I'd also add that since Matip has come into the defence (after Burnley) we've not conceded more than 1 goal in a game.

Mourinho is famous for getting his tactics right in the big games much more often than not.
After getting it so wrong in the first half v City, fingers crossed he gets it right here.

One thing Van Gaal did manage was good big game displays, bar a couple of exceptions in north London!
