A bit unfair that Mata is set aside instead of RVP imo, he's looked much better thus far in the season while also adding cohesiveness to the team.

While rotation was expected, what's disappointing is LVG's comments on Mata saying he is not happy with Mata as a midfielder.Does Rooney track more runners back then Mata as a #10 ?
SAF and even Moyes certainly didn't think so towards the end. Putting Kagawa and Welbeck there even to do a defensive job in big gamesRVP and Falcao are too similar. Rooney is no better than Mata as number 10.

We have 2 in form attackers right now : Mata and Rooney. Is that fair to say ? This implies that they have match sharpness and can contribute regularly. Essentially these are the players you can count on to deliver.
On the other hand we have the likes of Van Persie, Falcao and Januzaj. They are either out of form, unfit or too erratic. So ebasically you can't count upon these players to contribute regularly yet.
Now either we can continue to play the inform players. Or try to bring the out of form/ recovering players up to the same level by giving them the chance to start first team football matches.
In the latter case, there's a chance that all of them become regular contributors. Sounds perfect to me.

He IS better. But my opinion on LvG turned out to be wrong. I thought he was the stubborn type and that we'd see the ineffective 3-5-2 for at least another month. Instead, he changed it the second he saw something better as an alternative. He'll do the same here.
I'm sure he just wants to see if RvP really is past it, or if it's just a temporary slump of form. Shame Mata has to take the brunt of that, though I'm sure that if RvP doesn't pull his weight, Mata will come on in the second half and will gradually push him out of the first team over the next few games. Either that, or RvP finds his form and we see some of the old him. Neither situation sounds bad to me.
We've seen this in action already. Van Gaal prefers effectiveness and quality over sentiments and tradition. He'll always field his best players.

He is in the club since he is 15, but his transfer has been official since he is 18, he said it himself this week.
I quite like the thought of Mata coming on against a tiring Leicester team though.

The question has already been answered after the game.Just watched the LVG interview. This is what he said and not sensationalist
- Rooney and mata did not perform the way he expects them to perform
- He thinks falcao is better in striker position'
- He says, rooney says he is better as a 10 and he wants to try him there as he hasnt played rooney as a 10 yet
- He also says we have changed the system now. We will not see the 3-5-2 now i guess
- It will take time

If you reread the posts carefully both Januzaj and Falcao were mentioned as the starting candidates. eg. post #572. But yeah, it was definitely only Januzaj alrite mate.
As for the "nobody is getting rested" part, you do know managers don't reveal all their secrets to the media ? For all his talk of transparency, Van Gaal is quite a notorious manipulator in the press. Ask old Barcelona fans.
