Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • 1. Garnacho is playing LWB when we have the ball because he either doesn't want to, isn't good enough to, or Amorim doesn't trust him to play no.10, hence why Mazraoui keeps popping into no.10 instead. Major reason why Garnacho is going.

    2. Our play, for a decade now has a heavy tendency toward the left. Check the stats. This is why Garnacho gets the ball in dangerous areas more than Amad does, because we're lopsided to favour bulding down that side, unlike Arsenal, who do the opposite..........they bias their right side to get Saka on the ball and combine with Odegaard.

We need a striker more than any time i can remember. His scoring record was terrible but id genuinely take the version of weghorst we had under ten hag who was at least some way industrious and tough to play against for defenders. we are completely impotent.

I know Amorim isn't going to move away from a back-three/five but is there any chance we try a 3-5-2?

    -----De Ligt-Maguire-Martinez
    Dalot----Mainoo-Ugarte----Mazraoui
    ------------------Bruno
    -----------Højlund-Zirkzee

In that second XI you could even run with Dalot at RWB if you wanted. Neither of our strikers look capable of playing up-top alone in this set-up, maybe playing them both is a stupid idea but I can't help feeling that them sharing the load and responsibility with each other could be a massive help for both of them? It's not like Garnacho is currently pulling up trees and we apparently want to sell him anyway.

This is even more damning of Rasmus surely?

Their defenders don't have to worry about him. They press forward unafraid and double up on likes of Amad unafraid.

A good striker would ensure their defenders stay back when their team is going forward and likes of Amad and Garnacho would have more room to operate if Hojlund was taking defenders away from them.
Hojlund is a black hole in possession and a plaything for opposition centre backs at the moment, but he’s not the reason our forwards are all double marked. He’s double marked too. It’s because we’re playing with 5 defenders and a holding midfielder.

It’s such an obvious, fundamental and consequential problem that it doesn’t really make sense to focus on anything else. We are ceding massive amounts of territory and allowing them to swarm us simply because we don’t have any wingbacks while playing a system that’s reliant on wingbacks to create overloads, progress the play, etc.

I don't know how people can watch Hojlund and think there is a player there. He is awful, at everything.
He desperately needs a trick or skill to get away from defenders. He’s too easy to play against. And when Masroui played a ball into the 6 yard box, Hojlund wasn’t there to attack it. Just missing all the basics for a lone striker.

Himenez at the other end is not someone that I rate, but he’s had 3 attempts from nothing.

That is what your number 9 does. Causes defenders problems, jumps for every ball, knows when to run into the box, finds space and gets shots off from nothing.

I think he had to rest Zirkzee today but he is a much better option.

We're still so light in attack though, it's just too easy for Fulham.

Agreed, a back 3 with wingers running up is great, this negative back 5 isn’t United though.

i think thats down to personnel for now though. if next season for example it was diallo and another attack leaning options it becomes totally different. dalot and mazraoui are obviously not the plan or ideal personnel.

Letting Garnacho go to accommodate a fullback on left wing is hardly an exciting prospect.

It’s the same old same old. We purposely slow the game down from the back. It allows the opposition to fully reset then we have zero intensity when trying to get down the pitch.

Interchanges between the midfield and defence then we inevitably go wide to the 10’s who shouldn’t be out wide.

Tame passes around the box then tackled or intercepted and back to our defenders.

    Rinse and repeat.

If you watch Amorim in situations where say Bruno has the ball in MF and is running forward, he (Amorim) is screaming for likes of Maz, Ugarte et al to get forward. They simply don't and the next thing is we lose the ball and are under attack again or Bruno (in this exampl but pick a n other Amad/Garnacho) have to play back and the opposition gets back and in shape.

Amorim is going ballistic normally and then looked mighty p'ed off.

No. Take off Hojlund, he kills far too many attacks. Ball either bounces off him or he's too busy fighting with the opposition to care about linking up. He's dreadful. In an ideal world he'd be out of the first team altogether but we have zero options.
He never lays the ball off. If he manages to control it, he tries to beat his man and gets dispossessed. Maybe it's a lack of spatial awareness or something. He rarely lays the ball off into space for a teammate to run on to.

Awful game of football, we look dire.

Hard to see who can make a difference for us though. If Zirkzee is the answer then it's a deeply worrying question.

    We need signings desperately.

"welcome to the latest episode of the trials and tribulations of Manchester United" says the commentator.

Ideally Amad would play out on the right and Bruno would play in an attacking position, at the minute our front three of Maz Hojlund and Amad is pointless.
