They've had our number lately. Lost to them twice last season. Haven't won 4 in a row away. We have to go back 7 seasons for our record against them to not be even.

Bruno and Eriksen are both 10s,why are we persisting with Bruno when his league form hasn't been good?

Eriksen has done well in his last 2 games and am not talking about just stats.

Start Eriksen as the 10 so we can have Mainoo, Casemiro and Ugarte in the midfield 2 (one of the bench in the second half.

Bruno can replace Eriksen in the second half if needed.

Palace are very mobile as a team so we need positional discipline which Bruno hasn't shown at United
You have to adjust for the level of competition. You think Eriksen would've done anywhere near as well vs Liverpool and Brighton? Bruno had two assists in 25 minutes vs Barnsley.

We're starting Eriksen in games where his lack of pace isn't such an issue. Against better teams it becomes a liability.

It feels to me like we haven't had many draws recently. I've just checked the table for the last couple of years and only 1 team had less draws than us last season (Arsenal), and only one the season before (Man City). And this year we've won 2, lost 2, no draws so far.

The seasons before that we had 10 and 11 draws - close to twice what we've had the last couple of seasons - so it seems a recent thing under ETH. Is it something to do with ETH chasing victories late on and opening up the game and meaning we either win it or lose it with late goals? If so, I think we should be a bit tighter in away matches late on and try to make sure we don't lose as many. As, like you say, draws away against most PL opposition isn't the end of the world.
Most analytics say to play for the win. Since a win is worth 3 points and a draw is only worth 1, when tied late if you play an aggressive strategy that leads to half the time winning and half the time losing you'll average 1.5 points a game. Thus earning half a point more on average per game than a draw.

Another way to think about it is you could win 1 road game and lose 2, and you'll come out with the same points as 3 draws. So you should take more risks late to try to get a win, even if it also increases the chance of a loss (as long as increase is not too drastic).

Idk if this is what's informing ETH's thinking, but if so I think he's spot on. Draws are pretty much a bad outcome for a team that aspires for top 4.

Lost this fixture 4-0 last season, wasn't just the worst result but the worst performance United produced last season. Opportunity to see some more progress from United and it will be a much changing starting 11 as I expect only Onana,Dalot,Mainoo who started then to start again on Saturday.

Pretty impressive to get two out of three wrong considering the other two didn't start or play a single minute..

The team has to keep the momentum going and win this one too, it's not gonna be easy but winning this will definitely boost the morale and allow the team to play with confidence.

If we don't get the job done against Palace, really don't want to see the Barnsley result cited in defence or as mitigation for the team, manager or individual players

Bruno isn't exactly a pacy player though

    Onana
    Maz
    De Ligt
    Martinez
    Dalot
    Ugarte
    Mainoo
    Bruno
    Rashford
    Zirkzee
    Amad

Bring off the bench Garnacho/Eriksen if needed.

Hard to know what to expect here. Crystal Palace's results so far have been mediocre at best, but feels like a bit of a bogey ground for us, and they have players like Mateta and Eze that can hurt us. On our side we should come with confidence and be able to field a good side, but on the other hand it would be typical of this ETH era to fail miserable whenever there is something to build on.

Most importantly, we need a solid midfield. Even with his good performances lately, I'm leaning towards not playing Eriksen. He will just get overrun. Ugarte, Mainoo, Bruno would probably be best.

Palace have been pretty dire this season tbh. It's a game we really should be winning but I can't say I'm confident. Glasner will play a high pressing game and that's where our players tend to badly struggle. I'm not exactly confident we'll win but, we really need to be winning this and we need to put in a good performance. Scraping an unconvincing win won't do much to alleviate my doubts about ETH.

Squad just got stronger with mount and Rasmus returning to training

We are coming off two wins on the trot. Defeat incoming. 2-0 Palace. Midfield obliterated.

    Please give us:

    Amad - Rashford - Garnacho

If all of them retain form, it could be a good lineup against rivals in a counterattacking strategy. I wish ETH switches up our game approach like that.

But for Crystal Palace we should have Zrikzee who is good to develop play when we have the lion share of it. Rashford is hopeless in that respect.

Really hopeing we can get a comfortable win and finally get some momentum going.

    -------------------------------------Onana-----------------------------
    Mazzouri---------------De Ligt-------Martinez------------Dalot
    ---------------------------Ugarte---------------Mainoo-----------------------
    Garnacho-----------------------Bruno----------------------Rashford
    --------------------------------------Zirkzee------------------------------------

I feel like this has to be the team at the moment with Shaw and Hojlund unavailable. Rash and Garnacho can change as the game goes on. Amad / Eriksen off the bench if needed. Actually feel a bit bad about dropping Eriksen as he's been excellent, but I think the above is our strongest midfield 3.

Fair enough but Eriksen is far better in possession and dictating a game and it's tempo
Can’t argue with that. I agree. ETH needs to decide which way he wants to play in specific games and then choose one or the other depending on opponent.

I’m a bit concerned that Ugarte might not be quite ready to hold his own yet in a 3 with Bruno and Mainoo and also not ready to throw Casemiro back into that situation so I would be tempted to go back to a midfield 4 again. Start solid and then open up with quality from the bench.

    ———————Onana
    Mazrouai—De Ligt—Martinez—Dalot
    ———————-Ugarte
    ———Mainoo————-Casemiro
    ———————-Bruno
    —-Amad/Zirkzee——Rashford

Harsh on Garnacho not to start but I feel we are slowly building confidence again and I wouldn’t want to expose anyone in midfield and set them back. We need to build that trust.

Plenty of form and confidence off the bench after back to back wins which is a nice contrast to last season. I even feel harsh not having Eriksen in.

This might seem a bit of a left-field selection and most people probably want to see the 4-3-3 with Ugarte thrown in to fix all our problems but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ten Hag does something like this.

To me the only real question is will he start Ugarte over Case in a league match? ETH loves to take forever to start new signings unless his hand is forced (Maz). The rest of the starting XI is nailed on, same group as Southampton vice whoever (Ugarte/Case) he picks to replace Eriksen.

Hope it will be Ugarte and Case. Think this will end up our top two midfield. Take some pressure off Mainoo, he needs it desperately. But who knows with injuries.

Is Eriksen injured or why does everyone assume he won’t play this one? He’s given two top class displays..

Because he can’t handle 3 games in a week? We need to manage players like that. Palace will have a lot more about them than the likes of Southampton and Barnsley. Eriksen, Mainoo and Bruno is to weak of a midfield.

My point is that I don’t trust our manager to see that. His comments pre match last weekend about Eriksen “earning” it just make me worry that he’s fallen victim to halo effect, again! I think he’ll pick the same team that played at Southampton.

Palace are shite at the back.

Another comprehensive win on the cards.

    3-0 United.

Depends how good we do defensively. Eze can definitely cause us problems. Think we have enough in attack to score a few though.

    …….………….Onana
    Maz…De Ligt…Martinez…Dalot
    ……….Mainoo..Ugarte
    Amad…Bruno…Garnacho
    ….………Rashford

Ugarte, Casemiro, Eriksen I’m guessing. Mainoo needs time…

A win here would completely change the outlook on our start to the season.

9 from 15 is far from terrible when you factor in the results / comparative fixtures of those around us and the players nearing a return.

Onana, Maz, MDL, Martinez, Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Amad, Bruno, Rashford, Zirkzee is what it will be I reckon. With Garnacho off the bench at about 55.

    I’d like to see:

    ——————- Onana
Mazr - De Ligt - Martinez - Dalot
    ——— Casemiro - Ugarte
    Diallo —— Bruno —- Garnacho
    —————— Rashford

Feel like Mainoo needs a little spell on the bench, and we need some solidity in the middle for a tricky away match.

2 steps forward let’s not hope it’s 1 step back. It would sum up the last few years if we were to lose here

This is the danger of cup competitions luring it's into a false sense of optimism. An early league cup win over a league one side isn't a step forward for us.

I'm just concerned that the cup win is going to be sufficient to mask another poor run of games in the league. That people will argue he needs more time because 7-0 against Barnsley somehow proves something.

We were a mid-table side last season and we've started this year with form consistent with a mid-table side. The fact we might knock out a Barnsley or a Luton or a Coventry in a cup game on our road to achieving mid-table mediocrity again, needs to stop being up-sold as representation of progress.

We go into this game with a record of played four, lost two.

Palace have been average so far but they're pacy and have strength - we need legs and ground coverers for this one.
