I remember that game. I was fuming at the lineup. We had just won the league and I wanted us to give Mourinho a proper tonking. Thought we would lose something like 4-0

Really up for this one BOYZZZZZZZ.
No pressure on us at all, not expected to catch chelsea. They'll go out and express themselves.
Confident we'll win this one, but it'll be close again. 2:1. Rooney and Fellaini. Hazzard Pen.

    Can't wait!

If Hazard gets a pen, I'll put my money on De Gea saving it. He would have seen Hazard's technique, and he won't move till Hazard makes the decision. He has the best reflexes, so he'll back himself to get to anything that is not in the corner.

If Carrick's not going to be fully ready, would be happy to see Shaw in this if he's fully fit, with Blind moved back to midfield. With the media seemingly already sharpening their knives and licking their lips around Shaw, as with what happened with De Gea when he came in at a high fee and wasn't immediately playing to his best, it would be a great show of faith to bring him straight in.

And he's not the kind of player I'd worry about coming straight back in to this kind of match. He doesn't have the intelligent link up play and attacking nous of Blind at LB yet, but he won't be repeatedly torn to shreds by pace and guile as Blind was against City last week, I'm expecting a tight scrappy battle rather than the flowing possession attacking play we've had recently so I think he'd do well.

    Completely agree with this.

Brilliant trolling from Fergie that was. Take the league off them and then send out the kids and backup players to recieve the guard of honour.

Blind, Carrick, Rojo and Jones all out. That kind of shafts us.
We either go all out attack or I see Rooney back in midfield.
Will take a point now for sure.

Shaw will come back at LB, and I guess McNair will play alongside Smalling. Carrick is more difficult to replace.. will he change up the formation or just stick Rooney as a DM for this match?

Probably Rooney back in midfield. McNair at CB? Return to 3-5-2? FFS, just as we were settling into a style of play and consistent team selections this happens.

    I think it will be:

    -----------------------DDG-----------------------
    Tony--------Smalls---------Paddy----------Shaw
    -------------------Wazza-------------------------
    -----------Anders---------------------------------
    Juan---------------------Fellaini-----------Smashley
    -----------------------RVP-------------------------

    Possibly go

    ---------De Gea
    Valencia Smalling McNair Shaw
    ----Herrera Rooney Fellaini
    ----Mata Van Persie Young

I did my prediction just before the news and thought how easy it was.

    Guessing now:

    De Gea
    McNair - Smalling - Blackett
    Valencia - Rooney - Fellaini - Young
    Mata - Herrera
    Van Persie/Falcao

I can't see us playing 4 at the back with no Jones, Rojo or Evans or Carrick/Blind shielding.

This better not be a way to fit that slug RVP back in, who is going to mess up our style of play. Really is a downer now, let's just hope for a point

feck it lob Falcao in there. Scored a hatrick against Chelsea in that Super Cup a few years back when he was at Athletico. Let's just hope he finds some of his old quality against them.

    De Gea

    Valencia Smalling McNair Shaw

    Herrera Rooney

    Mata Fellaini Young

    Falcao

Wouldn't mind seeing Valencia in midfield and Rafael at RB too.
Wouldn't surprise me now to see ADM being fitted in somewhere. Where? No idea.

De Gea; McNair, Smalling, Rojo; Valencia; Herrera; Fellaini; di Maria; Young; Mata; Rooney

Can't see us playing any other way than a 3-5-2.

Have absolutely no chance of winning it with those recent injuries of ours.... The best thing we can do is park the bus and hope to sneak a point

    Could this work

Fellaini wouldn't be up against quick players in their midfield really and Di Maria would prefer to be in the middle than on the wing.

Other than that, if he want to play Rooney as a DM i'd much prefer Falcao to come in as the striker and keep the team as above with Di Maria back on the bench for Fellaini.

Hopefully we keep the 4-3-3 formation with McNair in at the back, and Rooney/Herrera as our deep playmaker, but I think we're potentially going to revert to 3 at back to make up for having to use our Reserve defence.

    This line-up all day long.

Have RVP, Januzaj, Di Maria on the bench, with Valdes, Rafael and Blackett filling in defensive numbers.

I think whatever we do, we should not bring fellaini back as a DM, not only because he won't do any job there, but primarily because we'd lose him up top. Drop Rooney and Herrera deeper, with fellaini you and mata pushed up with falcao up top. shame our players can't keep fit, we had a decent chance of taking all 3 points.

    -------------De Gea
    Rafael--McNair--Smalling--Shaw
    -------------Valencia
    --------Herrera--Fellaini

    -------------Rooney

Unorthodox, but it might work. Alternatively, we could get properly fecking smashed. Maybe Rooney as DM, Valencia RB and Falcao up top.

Our biggest mistake will be if we dont play Rooney up front I feel. He has done a far better job than the other strikers. Using Rooney to 'fix' the midfield problem (and I use that term loosely because I dont think he is disciplined enough for any sort of holding role) will just create an equally big problem up front.

I would perhaps just stick Rafael in as DM and keep the system unchanged - he has the energy to close down Oscar and the likes.

That's my thinking. Rafael could do it, I think Valencia could as well.

Should be this in all honesty.

Wait... You think Rooney isn't disciplined enough to play the holding role but Rafael is?!
