Blind and Jones should play with the injuries they have, we need 'em to.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Jones Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Fellaini
    Mata Rooney Young

I predicted us to win 3-1 a few days ago. Not sure I can change it but, I'd take a draw now.

I was previously very bullish about this fixture. But now with both Carrick AND Blind gone - this is going to be a huge problem.
So, like you, a draw will be very acceptable.

I'm very disappointed that we have somehow picked up so many injuries.

Hope El Tigre gives us a performance to remember him by.

He has already had plenty of minutes on the pitch. His season's tally is an embarrassing: 4.
The only performance I expect from him is a disastrous one, though I hope he proves me wrong.

Why are some posters saying Jones and Blind may be risked. Hasn't he already ruled them out.

What are they doing in training?
It's ridiculous. 4 injuries wouldn't be a problem, but like so often they are all in the same positions. Our both DMs, 2 CBs and 2 of our LB options with the third LB not 100percent fit.

Hope Mou is heading for a boring draw, could live with it. I think we will play now with a back 5, which is most likely not a bad idea for that game.

They were all injured in the City game.

I wouldn't be surprised if van Gaal lined up like this:

    -------------------------De Gea
    --------McNair--------Smalling--------Blackett
    Valencia---------Herrera-----Rooney---------Young
    -------------------------Fellaini
    ----------Mata------------------------Di Maria

Defend, defend, defend and shove the ball up to Felli, or Di Maria on the counter.

"Blind and Jones were the 2 who were close to being able to play, but not enough time to recover between games" Theyre out

I wouldn't take too much risks to be honest. Chelsea away was always the hardest game and there was always the chance, even with our best 11, that we could lose that one or drop points. Rather save Blind and Jones, if they are not ready, for the games we have to win.
If we play Shaw, Blind or Jones and they got another injury and will be out till the end of the season, it would be much more annoying.

    Ridiculous.

I think we will go back 5 now.
De Gea - Valencia, Smalling, McNair, Blackett, Young - Rooney, Herrera, Mata - Di Maria, Fellaini.
I don't know how the front 5 will lineup, just throw them together on the pitch and play for a draw. Di Maria upfront for counters, Fellaini to hoof the ball, Mata at least with some creativity and the rest need to work hard because we have no DM

    Exactly my thoughts too

    What about..

    Valencia McNair Smalling Shaw
    Herrera Di Maria
    Mata Fellaini Young
    Rooney

Thats similar to where ADM played fot Madrid and had his best season..

Less confident about this game now as a result of those injuries. Can still see it being a draw though, which is what i originally thought anyway.

Didn't realise the FA Cup was this weekend too. But surprised to see the Reading - Arsenal game kick off at 5:20. I would have thought either our game or that one would be 12:45 to avoid a clash.

If we were at home and against a team not as packed in midfield as Chelsea i'd probably prefer this, But I think Chelsea would walk through us if we played that.

If we were to only take a point from the next 2 games we are not guaranteed anything....
I didn't say we were guaranteed anything and nothing less than a win at Everton will do. I was on about our visit to the soon to be crowned champions.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling McNair Shaw
    Fellaini
    Herrera DiMaria
    Mata Rooney Young
I'd be confident of a point with that lineup.

I fear Fellaini at DM is a red card waiting to happen. I'm sure he'll play further foward.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Blackett Shaw
    Herrera Fellaini Di Maria
    Mata Rooney Young

Might be the way to go. I did think about Young at LB, given Shaw will only just be back from injury himself, but I think we'll need Young further forward as a counter-attacking option (the alternative would be Januzaj at LW, and Young at LB). Mata and Di Maria could easily swap around, but because Mata's been so good for us lately at RW, I've kept him there. The formation I've given there could also be modified by dropping Mata and Young back, and having Fellaini as the #10.

Picked Blackett just because he's left-footed. Just as long as we don't go 3-5-2 with Fellaini at CB.

    Louis Van Gaal Press Conference:

I fear Fellaini at DM is a red card waiting to happen. I'm sure he'll play further foward.

    Agreed.

Fellaini has been great for us the past few games and he will worry Chelsea.

There is no point moving him out of position when we don't need to, it would just play into Chelsea's hands.

    Valencia McNair Smalling Shaw
    Rooney
    Herrera Fellani
    Mata Young
    Wilson

    Subs:Blackett,Valdes,Rafael,RVP,Falcao,Januzaj,Di Maria

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling McNair Shaw
    Fellaini
    Herrera DiMaria
    Mata Rooney Young
I'd be confident of a point with that lineup.

Felliani in CDM? its clear on previous occasions he should be well away from that position. I'd rather have Rooney there and him up front tbh.

The names almost pick themselves, you'd have to assume Di Maria will come in for Carrick and Shaw+McNair for Blind+Jones, but it's the arrangement.. Fellaini can't start at DM. He has to be the furthest forward. Herrera and Di Maria will have to somehow share Carrick's job.

At least we can safely assume if those players start it won't be 3 at the back. Unless Blackett starts of course, and I wouldn't put that past Louis. He'd probably see a back 3 of McNair - Smalling - Blackett as having excellent 'balance' compared to a back four with two right-sided centre backs.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling McNair Shaw
    Herrera Di Maria
    Mata Fellaini Young
    Rooney

    or..

    De Gea
    McNair Smalling Blackett
    Valencia Herrera Fellaini Shaw
    Mata Rooney Young

Just say feck it and put Fellaini in defensive midfield and Di Maria in his place.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Blackett Shaw
    Rooney
    Mata Herrera Fellaini Young
    Wilson/Falcao/RvP
Only reason i wan't Blackett over McNair is for the height, McNair is probably going to start anyways.
Rooney is a gamble at CDM, yes he has the passing range and the workrate, but often he is not consistent with his passing, and lord knows how he will handle any pressure. Unfortunately, i don't see any better alternatives. I still think we have a chance to do the unexpected.

    The other, nuclear, option..

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling McNair Blind
    Herrera Rooney Fellaini
    Mata RVP Young

Our chances of victory are definitely not as good now. Even if we lose this match (which wouldn't be a nightmare), we're still in a comfortable position in the table. We have a very poor record at Stamford Bridge over the last few years, so a loss here would be nothing new.

It's a shame that we're likely going to have to throw players in that have barely played over the last couple months. This would be my team

Or instead of Van Persie we could play Di Maria and swap him with Rooney and Drop Fellani or Herrera to DM and bring in Di maria to play Box to Box Midfield to compensate for the injuries. I think I will be more incline to drop Herrera there as it would impact his game less compared to Fellani. Furthermore, Fellani provides a target man option up-top and allows us to bypass the middle third of the pitch when necessary. In the summer we have to sign a minimum of 2 central midfielders.
