In that case, there is only one candidate. DDG gets the armband for the rest of the season. Possibly Mata, but I wouldn't want him starting every game.

i honestly can't think of a player more unsuited to being a captain than Mata.

I guess Jones is going to start then, feck sake.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Bailly - Jones - Shaw
    Herrera - Matic - Pogba
    Lingard - Rashford - Martial

That would be the lineup properly. Ole has been here for 2 days so no major changes expected. Should be enough to get the win.

i honestly can't think of a player more unsuited to being a captain than Mata.

He was only mentioned in conjunction with a debate with a fellow caftard as to who deserved it based on their performances this season.

Would be ace if there would be less of this "Mourinhos golden boy not in the squad..." shit. Get over it. Jose is gone, no point of hating players who were in favour when he was here. But I guess all the negativity will take time to evaporate.

Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this, it's only now that I realise just how down I've been about us of late. I'd been dreading the games no matter the opposition and not just because I thought we'd lose but because I knew it'd be a painful watch.
I've never been massively anti mourinho but you can't deny he'd be an emotional drain this season I don't know if Ole will work or not but I can feel the positivity again and I like it
    Cmon boys!

Yeah nothing against the lad but he was only getting picked because of Mourinho obsession with height . He even invented an award for him last season!
There's nothing wrong with blooding the youngsters but they've got have the talent too - not all of them will make it at United
He was also getting picked to prove a point to Pogba and the board in Mourinho petty and silent wars with them .

i honestly can't think of a player more unsuited to being a captain than Mata.

Mata is not a regular starter and I doubt he'll be under Ole (who knows?) but I guess being a captain doesn't mean that much these days. Its definitely not what it used to be when the likes of Vieira, Keane and even Gerrard led their teams out.

The side against Cardiff will be picked by Carrick and McKenna. I wouldn't expect wholesale changes out of the gate.

Hoping to see a 4231 or 4213, which ever way you want to look at it. It's the formation Ole normally uses and the formation we play our better football in, in my opinion.

    I'm going for:

    Martial
    Rashford Mata Lingard
    Pogba Herrera
    Shaw Lindelof Bailly Dalot
    De Gea
We really could do with a couple of wide players in January. At least one anyway, with Chong being promoted to the first team.

You can change the manager but the defence is still shite.
Hope Ole knows how to defend a little.

    I would go

    Martial Rashford Lingard
    Pogba
    Herrera Fellaini
    Shaw Lindelof Bailly Dalot
    De Gea

I don't think we can function without either Matic or Fellaini guarding the defence when Pogba gives the ball away

Did they? I didn't know that and very oddly, despite lashing out at me you don't seem to know either.

All I know is the tweet says he is out for 2 games. If that is for personal reasons then I'm sorry to hear that.

But from a footballing perceptive? Yea I am a bit meh about him missing games at this point.
    “Compassionate leave “

Thanks bud. Love that the youngsters have been included.

PS - Love San Diego!

Woke up this morning, feeling fine
    Got Man United on mind
Ole's got us playing the way that United should
    Oh, yeah
Something tells me I'm into something good
    Ole’s at the wheel .....

The odds of Ole's first game in the PL being against his former club how many years later...life is funny

They was going to be there anyway because of injuries. No first team player has been left out of the squad unless injured so he had to name 3 of them

Cheers. Garner I believe was on the bench for Valencia with Greenwood and they were training with the first team.

I do like the fact that young players go through the process of traveling and being involved with the match day squad. Good experience for the preparation compared to home matches.

    Based on that squad
    Ddg
    Dalot Lindleof Bailey Shaw
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Mata Martial
    Rashford

    Can’t wait

I most curious about the team selection than anything. I think it will give us a good insight into what has been happening this season in terms of whether Jose truly favored certain players or players like Fred that have been shut out due to poor training. In regards to Fred, I don't think he's had any bad performances where you can say he was the only one on the pitch that had a bad performance. They were all bad. He was just the unlucky one as far as being frozen out.

I expect the first few matches will be selected based on Carrick and McKenna's observations of the players. I don't expect the wholesale changes a lot are predicting.

I'm going with the following based on nothing more than a guess and maybe fitness.

    DDG
    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial

Mata, Fred, and Dalot off the bench.

    Lets do this!!!

Haha thanks, he’s miles above Scott McTominay just for reference, genuinely highly rated talent. England captain at youth level as well I believe? Just 17 as well but was moved up to play U23 level with Angel.
Great stuff. Hopefully he'll get chances this and next year. Heard about Greenwood too, that he's good.

4 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses at home for Cardiff this season at home. All 4 wins coming in the last 5 games, not bad form. If I remember correctly they did cause Arsenal some problems before eventually losing the game.

    de Gea
    Dalot - Bailly - Lindelof - Shaw
    Herrera
    Fred/Pereira - Pogba
    Lingard - Rashford - Martial
I just want us to attack. The full backs should get high up the pitch and act like wingers. Herrera can give some protection to Bailly and Lindelof but everyone else should be attacking. Bring back the old mentality of 'If they score 2 we'll score 3'.

Well we probably will need to score loads with that CB pairing :)

Little hope of top 4 but I'm so excited for this game it's crazy. Not exactly expecting us to turn amazing over night but would be a dream to see us attack a team and not sit back if we go 1 up or if we equalise from a goal down.
