Didn't Lingard make his first team debut under Moyes in Preseason? and then it wasn't until van Gaal that he made his prem debut IIRC.
He played under SAF in preseason although it might of been when Mike Phelan took charge when fergie was sorting the Van Persie deal out.

BT Sport must think all their Christmases have come at once: OK lots would be watching anyway but they are now guaranteed huge audience for the game... no doubt the commentary and punditry will be pretty much as shite as usual though (do you ttink they've asked Jose along?!!!)

I think there will be hiccups in his first few matches to implement his philosophy. Ole will be criticised and be accused of being naive in terms of defending.

But I can see it being a better balance by late Jan. I remember the transition between LVG and Jose and the initial hesitation of how we used to attack or how fast we went forward.

    If that's the criticism...

3 very decent years where hes had to do an almost impossible job of running an entire flank under failed managers. Yeah hes old now and past his best, but the alternative is Dalot who isnt ready to start regularly, or young who might get the nod (though might have to play left back if Shaw is out anyway)
I’d have Young there rather than Valencia, as he’s less past-it and more of a leader and uniting force. But the amount of abuse Tony gets on here is ridiculous.

By abuse i suppose you mean criticism? Hardly seen anyone insult Antonio

I haven't been this excited about a game since Fergie was in charge, tomorrow can't come quick enough.

Another indicator of the current CAF vibe, the score prediction pie chart mostly green instead of the usual grey/amber.

Genuinely feeling like I do the day before a cup final. I'm desperate for Ole to do well.

You fed into all the media hype and attention as well, huh? Fair enough. That's your opinion. And no, I'm not joking. He's not the only player at the club who needs to prove himself but he's the only player constantly getting mentioned. Bullshit!
No media hype needed ,I go of what I see and he has been poor and captain in not the way to reward him, agreed yes other players need to improve , give the the captaincy !
For me he has to prove himself worthy of being captain and has yet he has not come close to it !

Fair enough. I've just gone through the last couple of pages of his performances thread and it's all reasonable criticism. Maybe I imagined it, or it did happen but earlier. Even the "always thought he wasn't good enough" posts were few.

In that case, there is only one candidate. DDG gets the armband for the rest of the season. Possibly Mata, but I wouldn't want him starting every game.

Honestly think that Cardiff are going to get destroyed. You could pick someone from the stands to manage this one and it wouldn’t matter. Players will be on a high from being rid of Mourinho and will want to show up.

Quite incredible the difference a week can make.
This time last week, I would not have been bothered if we lost 10-0. Now, I can't wait for the game.

    Early squad hints

Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, David de Gea, Eric Bailly and Ander Herrera were photographed boarding the plane to Cardiff. Andreas has also posted a video on social media which features him, Fred and Diogo Dalot on the plane too - which you can view below:

You can view more social media related content from the players here.
Nice to see both Gomes and Garner part of the squad. One thing is Ole to say he'd give youth players a chance, another to actually include them in the squad.

    It has started

“[Busby] has a saying, I’ll never forget it. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough. I really hope that I can be a part of that tradition. And there are some great youngsters coming through.” - Ole Gunnar Solskjær

Not that surprising to see some youth traveling with Lukaku and Sanchez out for tomorrow.

Young players in the travelling squad like I predicted. Good to see that message being implemented early.

    Solskjær's first United squad

Goalkeepers (3): David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders (6): Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw
Midfielders (7): Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Fred, James Garner, Paul Pogba, Andreas Pereira
Forwards (5): Angel Gomes, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
I can't wait for tomorrow. It just feels so good to finally look forward to games again and be optimistic ... it's been way too long.

Woke up this morning, feeling fine
    Got Man United on mind
Ole's got us playing the way that United should
    Oh, yeah
Something tells me I'm into something good

Don't expect Garner or Gomes to make the 18. Those 2 and a keeper will sit out.

Battle of two dour, grim, dated managers. Watch us make Callum Paterson look like Messi. Warnock had better watch out, the last game Mourinho came up against a dated, negative manager like himself, that manager was sacked after failing to beat us (Hughes).
I just saw this reading through the first replies! I was at a loss, before I glanced at the date. Things can change quickly in football. I submitted my first lineup in ages today. :D It’s exciting just to feel anyone might have a chance of getting a start. Can’t fecking wait!

    That’s more like it!

Can’t believe Jose’s name used to get an airing during that chant.

Nice to see Gomes and Garner taken along. I suppose it is unlikely that either of them will make the 18, but it's definitely possible.

    de Gea
    Dalot Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial
    ---
Romero; Jones, Young; Fellaini, Fred, Mata, Pereira

    Expecting something like this.

The Moyes and Jose songs are pretty toe curling on their own and and commemorate the worst runs we've had.

I don't think they sound well to boost or lift the players.

It's amazing how different I feel compared to how I felt last week when Mourinho was still here.

Complete 180 in my mood and outlook towards the club.

    de Gea
    Dalot - Bailly - Lindelof - Shaw
    Herrera
    Fred/Pereira - Pogba
    Lingard - Rashford - Martial
I just want us to attack. The full backs should get high up the pitch and act like wingers. Herrera can give some protection to Bailly and Lindelof but everyone else should be attacking. Bring back the old mentality of 'If they score 2 we'll score 3'.

Thankfully that post is no longer applicable. Aye tomorrow is the first United match I’ve looked forward to in a long time.

I hope he's left out and not injured. Leaving out McTominay in favour of Garner and Gomes would be a great first move.
Feel bad for the guy but he was never good enough. Didn't even stand out among the reserves.
Yeah nothing against the lad but he was only getting picked because of Mourinho obsession with height . He even invented an award for him last season!
There's nothing wrong with blooding the youngsters but they've got have the talent too - not all of them will make it at United
