Not going to bother with a holding CM?

Well, that's just my team and I obviously haven't got any coachich badges. Also I believe that if the team which just got promoted to 4th division is going to do any harm for this side, then something is really wrong with players' commitment.

Also we all know this is going to be:

    ----------------- Valdes
    Rafael - McNair - Smalling - Rojo - Blind
    ---------------- Fletcher
    ------------ Herrera - Rooney
    ------------ Wilson - Falcao

If we are not denying these Fletcher rumours, would we play him? If we have said he can go, would his heart be in it?

I know its the team you want to see and coaching badges has nothing to do with anything. Playing 3 midfielders who are renowned for their attacking attributes without anyone to sit is silly imo no matter who the opposition. Team shape doesn't just fly out the window because it is Cambridge.

I believe Jones and Rojo formed a good partnership at the back against QPR and maybe there is a possibility that LvG will want to see them again. Rafael and Shaw should also start while Carrick will probably get some rest.

I would like to see some of the players who don't get enough playing time lately and how much they've improved in training. After all, the lack of European games gives you this opportunity and we shouldn't waste it.

What i would like to see:

    ---------------Valdes--------------
    ------Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw---
    ----------------Blind---------------
    --------Fellaini------Herrera------
    ---------------Januzaj-------------
    -----------Wilson---Falcao--------

I would be happy with that, with a strong bench just in case.

I'm expecting three centre halves again:

    Valdes

    McNair
    Smalling
    Rojo

    Rafael
    Fellaini
    Blind
    Rooney
    Shaw

    Wilson
    Falcao

Would like to see Herrera and/or Januzaj in the team, but think he'll go with this.

Really don't want to see Rooney play, he should be left at home. Really want to see Januzaj play.

Is Van Gaal doing a press conference today?

"Van Gaal has told MUTV, in an exclusive interview which you can see in The Manager's Press Conference from 13:00 GMT, that Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are definitely out of tomorrow's game, but Robin van Persie and Luke Shaw are available. The boss added that he'll have to see how the next training session goes, of course."

Few things from philosophy press conference today. We miss 2 central defenders, Cambridge will throw long balls to us and he’s preparing his team like a PL game….

    --------------------------------------------Valdes------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------Mc Nair-----------Jones-------------Rojo-----------------------------

    Rafa/Valencia----------------------Fletch/Blind-------------------------------Shaw/Blind

    -----------------------------Rooney--------------------Fellaini----------------------------------

    --------------------------------Di Maria---------Wilson/Falcao/RVP-------------------------

Sounds like we're going to play 352, but I really hope we don't. What I don't understand is that now we have Carrick, Blind, Di Maria, Herrera, Fellaini (in form), Mata etc aka an actual midfield, we're choosing to play more defenders and thus picking worse players over better ones for the sake of the system or 'philosophy'.

The worst part is when we play Carrick or Blind at the bottom of a 442 diamond, is that it can be very flexible and easily a form of 352? It's actually better because then we'd have a 'defender' who can pick a pass going forward (more-so Carrick) rather than just slowly pass it around at the back with next to not penetration.

Probably missing something, but that's my thoughts on the team's shape right now.

Since it is probably going to be 3-5-2 i would like to see this:

    --------------Valdes-----------
    -------Jones-Carrick-Rojo-----
    Rafael--------Blind-------Shaw
    -------Fellaini-----DiMaria-----
    -------Wilson-----Falcao-------

It will probably be Valencia instead of Rafael and maybe Blind instead of shaw and Carrick moved up with McNair coming in. Fellaini is crucial since they have so many tall players, can't see where Rooney fits. Januzaj will probably not play but you could hope.

I've taken backwards step in terms of my critcism of LVG since well yesterday, but I still get the feeling that this friday's 3-5-2 will incense alot of fans, regardless of result. The 352 will be used as weapon against LVG because of the december-january results so far.

    The only way he can answer his critics is;
    A) Results that result in being comfortable at 3rd/4th
    B) Overtaking Saints rather than battling Arsenal,Liverpool etc.
    C) Being open to systems that give Juice like Januzaj a chance whilst also incorporating Herrera more regularly.
    D) By being ruthless towards Evans,Rafael,Jones,Smalling in the summer, he'll win over alot of fans.

The 352 will matter little because the facts will speak for itself, what worries me is alot of things but It's tiring now after last season to repeatedly mention.

Hopefully we score an early on friday, it will go a long way to settle nerves of fans.

    Valdes
    Rafael--Jones--Rojo--Shaw
    Fellaini
    Herrera--Di Maria
    Januzaj
    Wilson--Falcao

How I think Van Gaal will line-up:

    Valdes
    Jones--Carrick--Rojo
    Valencia--Fellaini--Herrera--Blind
    Di Maria
    Rooney--van Persie

Even with a 3-5-2 that second lineup should easily batter Cambridge.

i hope everyone realises that there's a possibility anderson makes the bench tomorrow since he did at yeovil town.

    what an exciting prospect!

Little bit of information regarding Cambridge after LVG's comments about there playing style. Contrary to what he said they like to try and play football and don't just pump long balls upfield all the time, they press the opposition well and like to keep possession and look to break with pace. Ryan Donaldson is a player they often look to for this, he's quick and can put in quality crosses from wide or drift inside when given the opportunity and cause problems. Tom Elliot, another quick player and the big man upfront is a handful for defenders, he's strong on the ball and good in the air although not always a clinical finisher when he gets the chance. They were mainly playing 4-3-3 earlier on in the season but have reverted back to more of a 4-4-2 recently, also lost there top goal scorer in Kwesi Appiah which is a blow as he was a very good player for them in general.

    --------------------Valdez---------------------
    ----------Jones-----Mc Nair---Rojo-----------
    Valencia--------------Blind-------------Shaw
    ---------------Herrera-------Fellaini----------
    -----------------Wilson----RVP----------------

as much as I'd like to see a 4 its going to be the 3 isn't it

Would love to see a lineup like this. We can switch Falcao with RvP or Rooney. Smalling, Evans and Rafael seem to be out.

But we mostly likely will see something like this

that first team and formation you posted would absolutely pillage cambridge to the point where the whole town would have to be shuttered and in need of a complete refit. the university students would be forced to go to oxford or UCL and absolute chaos would ensue throughout southern england. LVG knows best.

I want us to stuff Cambridge, no offence to Cambridge. If it will upset Mark Saggers on Talksport who is a Cambridge United fan and has been going on all night about Cantona and that he was working for SKY that night and he said Cantona would never play in England again. WRONG. So come on Manchester United.

What the bet we start with 3-5-2 and look a league 2 team with inaccurate passes, slow build up and about 1 shot on target? Then change it to 4-4-2 and look professional and creative and decisive and win..

Going off of his recent comments, I'm thinking this.

    Valdes
    Jones - Carrick - Rojo
    Valencia - Fellaini - Rooney - Blind
    Di Maria
    RvP/Falcao - Wilson

So it looks like it's 3-5-2 at the moment..

    Keeper
Why everyone wants Valdes in goal I can understand, I'd like to see him in a united shirt but its the worst sort of game for him for two reasons, if he does well, it was expected, if he does badly against a lesser team, it will look bad.Secondly, his attributes don't fit the opposition, he can go missing positionally and likes to come out and the long balls will cause him problems with our defense so I'd stick with DDG.

    Defense
I would like to have Smalling due to his frame, but if he and Evans are out, I'd opt for Jones, Rojo and McNair.

    Midfield
For wingbacks, it picks itself, Shaw and Rafa if fit, Valencia and Young if not, in the middle I want Fellaini for obvious reasons with Blind behind and now you need a playmaker ideally, and Carrick is to static for me, but due to Fellaini liking a B2B role, Carrick will suffice.

    Attack
Falcao needs games, and I want to see Januzaj behind him.

    DDG
    McNair===Jones===Rojo
    Blind===Carrick
    Valencia===Fellaini===Shaw
    ......Januzaj
    Falcao

Subs: Valdes, Rafael, Herrera, ADM, RVP

    De Gea
    Valencia
    Mcnair
    Jones
    Rojo
    Shaw
    Blind
    Fellaini
    Di Maria
    Januzaj
    Falcao
    Rooney.

    1-4.

    Valdes
    Rafael - McNair - Rojo - Shaw
    Fellani - Pereira
    Januzaj - Rooney - Lingard
    Wilson
No more Anderson on the bench please.

Truly wishful thinking with that lineup. Its a good lineup though, except for afroman

Im not sold. Sue me. I appreciate the contribution tho

I was genuinely interested in why. I can't make you like what he is giving to the team, but it sure is a bit strange when you think about how well he have done this season :)
