    First half summary:

Kevin Friend is bad at his job

VAR is as inconsistent as... something else that is inconsistent

Wan Bissaka is actually worse at crossing than Antonio Valencia

    Shaw got lucky

    Brady got even more lucky

Sean Dyche is just a ginger Mourinho

True...its more their modus operandi that irks me. We'll bully the hell out of you and score...but fall over and be pussies asap as a form of defence. They want a shithousery battle then let's dig right fecking in. Spirit of Keane on that pitch please.

To stem this Burnley tide we need a higher level of mental fortitude. Starting in that dressing room now

Get Fergie and his hairdryer in there, he'll get them firing tonight.

Oh man sky making the controversy shaw not being sent off is disgraceful

Once they saw the hand on the back in the replay they weren't going to over rule the ref.
The only argument is that if you thought the Burnley player was going into Maguire.. so it was a 50-50 who was going into who... but it looks so clumsy that a foul has to be given.

Before Liverpool game we should hire Jose or Fergie for press conference. Our manager must make a rant about refs just like Klopp did

Burnley would be massively proud of maguires goal. What an absolute joke

Should have had a pen for the handball, Maguire scored a perfectly good goal, first time I have seen VAR give a free-kick on the other side of the pitch too. Weird game.

I think VAR is only for red cards, offside and penalties so if the reff didn’t give the faul straight away he can’t bring it back to that faul? Unless it’s a red card offense, but he didn’t book Shaw.

Hopefully we create and take our chances second half. The disallowed goal was just one man wanting the ball more then the other. I don't think their lad even began his jump so for two refs to disallow that is amazing but let's win the second half.

Just seen Maguire's goal again. That is utterly hilarious.

Friend should be relegated for that.

Fred and Telles on for Matic and Shaw at half time please.
matic is having a good game.. not getting drawn into the arguing, just doing his job. do feel shaw might be one tackle from another yellow but you can't really sub everyone who gets a booking - unless they are playing like a lunatic

I must be mental bias but I don't see the fuss over the Shaw tackle. Clearly gets the ball and the follow through is perfectly natural albeit unfortunate for the Burnley player.

Imo he's brought that back to save him from having to send Brady off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity

The maguire goal is nonsense of course

Been a cracking watch tbf! Enthralling stuff

    Come on boys!

I'd love a written explanation on how on earth Maguire's goal doesn't stand.

The alleged violation of the Laws is that the moment Harry put his hand on the defender’s back that he committed a foul.

His hand was on the player’s back, but if that’s now the basis for a foul call I’ll be very interested in seeing whether this new doctrine will be consistently applied.

One: I can’t stand Gary Neville on commentary, the guy tries so hard to be neutral that he’s actually so biased against us.
Two: how on earth was that a foul by Shaw? It’s a 50/50 challenge where both players fly in and for my money both touch the ball, the follow through looks bad in SLOW MOTION, how is that reflective of real time play?
Three:That’s then easily a red card challenge on Cavani
Four: How on earth has that Maguire goal been ruled out, that’s never a foul.

Summary, this ref is shocking, he’s making the game all about Burnley and punishing us for the most minor of challenges while letting them get away with murder. We should be 1-0 up against 10 men here.

Hope we come out now in the second half and start playing. We are getting sucked into the physical battle and the ref is ensuring we lose it. We need to move the ball faster and between the lines and we can score. What a horrible game.
    One word: Klopp.

James Redknapp fecking talking sense. What has the world come to?

Beyond shocking officiating. Shaw clearly won the ball before the follow through and Maguires goal is just a joke. Doing everything they can to keep Liverpool in it. Hopefully we blow them away in the second half and the decisions are foot notes. Martial and Rashford need to make runs in behind and not to feet where they other nothing but a blind corridor or pasa backwards

Seriously am I missing something?? On what planet could that be a red for Shaw? Won the ball first, then yes follows through but if that's a red you genuinely need 3 or 4 reds a game. If he hadnt got the ball then OK, there's at least a conversation, but even then I'd have given a yellow

Ref and var have been shit but ole has got the team wrong.

Fred and mctominay should be starting this game 100% pogba and matic are just statues that slow everything down.

We need energy in that midfield. Fred and Scott provide that.

All to play for still though.
I dare say we've had many games against Burnley that have been goalless at half time and we've won.

Just need to do what we do. Keep it on the floor at pace and avoid buying into their niggly style.

Absolutely shocking that we've been booked twice and Burnley haven't. Only plus point is that after that stupid decision we've stepped it up. Still need to pass the ball faster.

We need a left footer in attack. Martial's shot and through ball both came from his weaker side and it showed. I'd be confident of a win as we've finished well, but this ref is giving me anxiety. Feels like he's waiting to send a United player off.

It'll have been binned by now. An identical goal will be scored at the weekend and given with absolutely no fuss made.

People honestly overestimate the "getting the ball" stuff in fouls. It makes me feel like even if you break a player's leg while fouling it's fine as long you get the ball at the end !

I found the decision to be the correct one but I wouldn't have given Shaw a booking, a foul was enough.
This is literally what happened when Shaw broke his leg. No card, no penalty.
