Darmian can do a job at CB. I'd trust him more there than Blind.

But Blind has put in lots of great CB performances for us over the last couple of seasons. Darmian hasn't played there for us at all (am I right about that?) and his biggest weaknesses as a FB are his lack of physical strength/conviction and his lack of height. Hardly promising flaws in a stand-in CB.

He played only one season as a CB, and in a system of possession that decreases the number of chances thrown at our defense.

Good maybe. Great, hm I dont think so.

I'd like to see us use a 3-4-3 setup now with the season-ending injuries to Zlatan and Rojo.

    Something like this:

    ---------------De Gea------------------

    ----Blind------Bailly------Darmian----

    Valencia---Herrera---Carrick---Shaw

    ---Mkhitaryan---Pogba---Rashford---

or play Marcus up top with the same personnel in a 3-4-2-1

Stick Fellaini in for Carrick when he needs the rest.

    Pogba as a striker ??

I think he meant it as a 3-5-2 with Pogba as a #10 behind Mkhi and Rashford.

Hope so as I can't find a reason for putting Pogba upfront with his terrible finishing and complicating easy balls.

Would love to see this team. Pogba playing in his best position (same as Juventus) would be great to finally witness.

interested to see what Jose does tonight. Does he save rashford for city? Especially after running his heart out against Chelsea and then anderlecht. Does he start rooney or martial in the No.9? Rojo is a big miss but i'm ok with blind or darmian filling in.

My prediction is a back 4 of Young, Bailly, Blind and Darmian, the TV graphic lining the team up with a back 3 and pages of discussion on here on why a back 3 makes the team more solid defensively like against Chelsea.

I also expect Martial and Rooney to start in attack (probably with Lingard). With the lack of numbers in attack, there is no option but to trust players like Martial and Rooney now. It's vital to keep Rashford fresh for the City game where there will be lots more space on the counter attack than there will be at Burnley.

We need to score early, think we'll run out of steam towards the end due to the ET Thursday match.

I don't know about others but to me, this has the feeling of a dead rubber game.
I mentally shut down from premier league games a while ago.

Apart from the Europa Cup, that's like the football season coming to an end. I hate it when the football season comes to an end, as do all proper football fans. What's wrong with you?

yeah i agree. The issue against lower ranked teams has been the extreme casual tempo we take into these kinds of games from minute one. The XI that goes out against these kinds of teams just expects a win without much forethought in how to achieve it.

The chelsea game should show us how important quick starts are. We dominated from minute one, chelsea concede and then come out looking for an equaliser which gave us even more space. The last thing we need at burnley is 30 mins to go by, no shots on target and burnley go into a 5-5-0 formation to try and seal the draw. They'll happily take a point and move on, we can't just take a point. Every league game is now a must win.

Hundred percent sure that we're gonna start with a 3-5-2 or something

    DDG
    Darmian-Bailly-Blind
    Young-Herrara-Fellaini-Pogba-Shaw
    Lingard-Martial

Hmm, training video for the Burnley Match. Can't see Valencia anywhere in this.

We won't get top4. The moment i accepted it, i lost interest in our EPL results.

The balance of probability is that we won't. But Liverpool will not win all their remaining matches and there is still a real possibility. I urge you, for God's sake, to readdress your current attitude.

    I've gone for 343. Think Jose will want to rest a few and he's going to need to get Tuanzebe warmed up and playing for the rest of the season;

    DDG

    Tuanzebe - Bailly - Darmian

    Young - Herrera - Fellaini - Shaw

    Lingard - Rooney - Rashford

Rooney will drop into his customary quarterback role despite being told specifically not to and it'll be crap until he's hooked just after half time. 2-1 to United after a Tony Martial double rescues it for us following his introduction.

I picked smalling in my prediction. He's injured right?

i get the feeling Tuanzebe might come in, but i'd think it would be for bailly to give him a rest?

Blind will be fine and already proven he can do a decent job there. He may have struggled mid week but wasn't the easiest game to come into. I hope more that we can score without Ibra....

I reckon Bailly will be ridden like a Blackpool donkey from here until the end of the season. IMO Jose has no other choice. It'd be nice to see him given a break and if we lose today maybe he will but, only from the point when 4th place is not realistic.

fair point. The only thing that would make me think anything else might be two bad injuries in a row to key players?

Does he react cautiously to losing key players and rests Bailly for City, and hoping the gamble pays off against a lesser threat.

I think you're probably right on the money. But it will be interesting to see in a few hours :)

    We will smash it. 11:0.

I want to see more optimism around here! We have not been a poor team overall just our finishing. It's huffing and puffing and one of these teams will be on the end of a real pummeling.

Then again, with the injuries to Ibra and Mata in particular it might not be til next season :/

I think we will run riot today we always seem to play better when we are up against it with injuries. I have full faith in our squad players they always show up when called upon.

Darmian can do a job at CB. I'd trust him more there than Blind.
So you would trust Darmian because he played at CB a couple of years ago instead of Blind who has more than a year experience at CB in premier league?

Does anyone else think that there are no games left to be cautious say for example we are headed for a draw we must go all out for the win at whatever cost?

I would rather us go hell for leather as at least then we have a chance rather than what seems to be an inevitable outcome (not making top 4)should we fail to kill teams off

I changed my predicted line-up. Somehow I'm starting to get a feeling we'll see Darmian , Rooney and Martial all starting with Valencia, Rashford and Mikhi getting a rest. Valencia seems certain now that he's getting a rest so don't know what will happen to the other two.
