Spending all those money, and still starting with two really bad wingers / wide forwards.

Amad is the latest RedCafe darling to become a great player simply by not playing, and therefore not being tarred with the same brush as the others.

He's been really poor today and I can't understand what he's done to justify starting over Garnacho.

Other than that, I think there are actually plenty of positives to take from this performance.

We have defended really well and have been caught-out by an individual error from Maguire, who will be 4th choice when our CBs are all fit.

We still lack goals...you won't get enough from Rashford and Amad...but we know this is a work-in-progress and we've been the better side here and looked largely in control

Amad has been very poor. Had one good cross for Rashford who was offside anyways and that was about it. Rashford equally terrible on the other side.

Maguire was pathetic for that goal. Just let's the ball go past him doing feck all.

We are doing okay. If we get a goal back I'd back us to go on and win. Brighton have created feck all.

Had some good moments and chances but final ball/decision making has been lacking on multiple occasions.

Amad has been very poor as well. Sub him off for Garnacho.

Take rashford out for garnacho, put Mount on the right and put a striker on for Amad

Positive start. Good pressing, good structure, defensively solid, not creating much moving forward. Random brain fart for the goal. Not enough urgency. Sloppier play as the half wore on.

We move the ball too slowly. Easy predictable attacks.

    Amad need to get out.
No we don't. We've largely in the first two phases of play been excellent. We are absolutely shocking as soon as it requires a modicum of quality.

Zirkzee, Garnacho and De Ligt on please.

To me I’m seeing the exact same issues as last season up front and at the back. Nervy defending and just looking casual and clueless when it comes to final ball and creation.
We are so slow moving the ball from back to front it’s embarrassing. Everyone knows one/two touch passes gets you through yet we constantly take 3/4/5 touches and slow it right down.

Agree. Don't see why we even bother playing out of the back because when we do, we cant play it through to the midfield and to the attack with any kind of fluency.

We are also playing so deep, both with and without the ball.

Garnacho has to come as we have no one else who can go inside or outside a fullback.

Zirkzee needs to come on as we need a target upfront and someone to run in behind.

Rashford is the wrong player for ETH system.

We play like we have no plan how to win the game. The plan is more like trying not to lose in the first 60 mins and then grab a winner.

We need to start playing with conviction and risk again. I'd rather us be going in 2-3 down instead of that wishy washy shite.

I prefer our shape so far this season

if we can do Maguire>De Ligt and Rashford>Garnacho it would be better

Felt we have been the slightly better team but just same old story continues - can’t convert our chances.

They scored with their only meaningful attack in the game and my word absolutely shocking defending.

De Ligt, Garnacho & Zirkzee on for Maguire, Rashford & Amad.

Conceded one chance and one goal. Didn't create much ourselves but were still the better side. Attack looks weak.

Of course Brighton scored their first attack of note.

We have pretty much had the play and done close to nothing with it. A lot of poor decision making on show from us.

Brighton pass the ball much slicker than us.

Even my missus said ‘why do Brighton pass the ball better in tight spaces’.

To do so otherwise would suggest the manager has set us up wrong or got the selection wrong.
Aye. Almost as if playing with no striker and physical presence up top might prevent you from scoring goals..
If this is us 'playinh well' then we should be very very worried. Brighton are terrible but we are slow as feck in moving the ball and give rhem all the time in the world to settle back.
Yup. Brighton have just sat off and we’re passing it around in front of them for no reason.
I guess it makes a change to what usually happens when we play Brighton which is them playing us off the park and having about 400 shots on goal. So I guess this is an improvement.

Nothing to do with the team. Just Harry Maguire being Harry Maguire. Always able to make a mistake

It is not a terrible team. It is about manager's decisions. Playing cautious without striker, and playing with Maguire who fecked up dozen times in games like this and still gets selected.
I don't mean personnel wise guys (although a couple are rubbish) but we as a team. There is no way that Brighton XI should be ahead of us.

I think most fans here can recognise we don't deserve to trail. Looking toothless up front is down to no striker of course but trailing is so disappointing as i was enjoying seeing some big problems of last season look much improved. Fernandes was probably fouled in the build up and then it's poor defending but that aside i don't feel remotely threatened by brighton.

Hate to go on and on, but nobody can justify rashford playing here. I would say he's comfortably been the most ineffective player on the pitch, lives offside, offers no threat, and had a small role in the goal with an idiotic return ball to Bruno.

I still think we can get something here and the hysterical moaning about it being same as last season isn't fair i think

Am I really the only one that thinks Mount has been good? Such a weirdly polarising player. Taking good care of the ball, progressed it and leads the press.

If any of the other 2 forwards felt like showing up it'd be nice.
Nah, I agree, he’s been fine. The least of our problems. Rashford and Diallo, on the other hand.

Attack pretty rubbish. One great chance and that came from a long ball from Onana, Dalot winning a header and then making an incredible cross.

Mount is doing great in terms of his pressing but there is clear lack of a reference point for the others up front, Zirkzee coming on should be the move but like last week it might open up the midfield a bit more for Brighton.

Much better shape defensively, soft goal with no-one covering themselves in glory aside. Encouraging because if the right balance can be found up front it could be a decent set up for the season.
