Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Yoro, De Ligt and Mazraoui is what I’m hoping for from the start. Mazraoui can help Dalot with Saka on that side too.

You’ve got options on the bench to shift things around if you need to for 20 minutes at the end, but I’d rather those options don’t start.

You are asking for trouble putting Maguire there. If he is going to play, I would put him in the centre, Maz on the left (seems to be able to play anywhere) and De Ligt on the right. Then I wish we didn't have to play Dalot but I wouldn't trust Garnacho in that position either.

I initially had Shaw at LCB but with him yet again injured, I just changed it to Maguire but didn’t bother editing the rest i.e. moving the back 3 around. I do believe it will be similarly to how you have mentioned.

Dalot is only in there as Shaw is injured again & Malacia showed last week against Bodo/Glimt how far away from match fitness he is and this is not a game I am wanting to throw him straight into, especially up against Saka. He needs a loan move in January imo. If Martinez was available then maybe put Mazraoui there at LWB but we are short on defensive options right now hence we need to play Nous as part of the back 3. Yoro coming back is great news and expect him to be eased back in as what Ruben hinted in his presser.

There is hardly one or two teams in the world who can beat Arsenal at Emirates. May be one or two in the league who may get on to a draw . And we dont have enough defenders for their set piece tactics.

So its probably a 3-1 to Arsenal. If we can put them under pressure then its a good sign, thats all.

Think they will sex us but hope I am wrong.

I think they'll try to press us really high up the pitch. If we can cope with that then we should be fine.

If they succeed in stopping us from playing out then it could go horribly wrong.

That is your view. Amorim said we have to be careful with Yoro, and I can imagine any minutes need to be managed.

Also is Yorro a LCB? I thought hes a RCB.
First off, he started Malacia, next game he started Mainoo - both returning from injuries. How come same couldn’t be done by Amorim with Yoro?

Secondly, Yoro is indeed an RCB, so Maz will move to LCB

He might well do it, but he admitted Mainoo was a risk and Malacia had games with the reserves before he started. He also said Yoro they need to be careful with.

I'd love Yoro to start but it's not clear cut in terms of readiness.

He wouldn’t have started Yoro with Luke Shaw fit - but now there is an emergency, so he simply must start him (or Kukonki). Amorim cannot allow trashing at the Emirates.

Besides, Martinez is only suspended, so he will be back as early as next game (which will provide options to “manage Yoro”)

Very big chance. You can’t play de Ligt together with Maguire, especially against Saka - so Yoro is more or less the only other option available. And Yoro then may be subbed off for Kukonki at 70-75min mark - Kukonki reportedly travelled as well
    Kukonki! Exciting

Yoro likely wont play 90 if he plays today. Just like Martinez and Malacia didnt when they returned.

And you're turning a bit over the top with the thrashing point if Yorro didnt feature. We have capable defenders.

For whatever reason I can see this either being a drubbing by Arsenal, or we pull off a smash and grab and win. Nothing in between

Noussair Mazraoui, apparently, has not been seen with the travelling squad.Heck knows how we will line up , Yoro may have to start.

Absolutely gutted if Mazraoui is not available. Been our best and consistent performer this season.

Neither were making their debut against Arsenal at the age of 19 on the back of a four month lay off.

I won’t be sad to see Yoro in the side, but logic dictates that Amorim will go for a tried and tested option like Maguire instead.

I think this might be the starting 11, but i am very concerned about the (lack of) speed of De Ligt to play as LCB.
But without Licha and Shaw and with Yoro not being able to play 90min, I don´t think you have many alternatives...

He could do what he did sometimes in Sporting and put a (big) defensive wingback as L/RCB - in this case Dalot - but then who would play as LWB? To face Saka you need a WB with good defensive skills. Is there anyone else (besides Dalot) that could play that role?
Malacia but he's not ready to start as shown by his last start.

Mainoo has played matches this season already and Malacia played in a reserve team game prior to his start, which was against a weak opponent (relatively).

Doubt there would have been need for a statement about the rainbow jacket if he wasn't gonna be playing.

context needed on that though, Malacia started at home v a Norwegian team, he was at fault for 2nd goal and got took at half time. Mainoo started at home v Everton, a team at the bottom end of the table. We are playing Arsenal away, who after a bit of a bad run seem to be playing well again. It's a big ask for a young player to play your 1st game away to them. The fact he wasn't in the squad for any of the previous 2 games was telling. Be interesting to see if he does start him, personally I don't see it.

he is not just a “young player”, he is 50+ million player regarded as “one of the best defensive talent in the world”. There is simply no reason not to play him against Arsenal, considering circumstances.

The prospect of Evans or Maguire against Saka and Odegaard on the left is a scary one. No idea how Amo is going to solve this. I would rather he go with a 4231 in mid-block this game.

    Onana
    Maz Yoro de Ligt Dalot
    Ugarte Casemiro
    Amad Bruno Garnacho
    Zirkzee
I don't think RA is going to abandon his formation and entire ethos for one game.

he's 19, that's young no matter what he cost. He may well play, we don't know, but my concern is he wasn't fit for a place on the bench in the previous 2 games. He also wasn't training with the whole squad, as the manager said he was training with a smaller group, the manager himself warned about rushing him back and looking after him. He's returning from a long lay off, it's his first game in a new league away to the 2nd best team in the league. If Mazouri is out as some speculate, that may change things, we will see.

This works the other way, too, though: Why risk a 50+ million asset aged 19 that you want to get the best out of for the next 10+ years by throwing him in cold after four months out, for his first ever EPL game - which is a very physical league un general - in one of the toughest away games on offer against an incredible physical Arsenal side that is known to push the limits of the rulebook.

I'm hoping Maz is well enough to join, the confirmed traveling team is already 20 players, but Heaton could get bumped out of the playing squad if he shows up.
If not I think we'll go with:

    Onana
    Yoro Maguire De Ligt
    Amad Ugarte Casemiro Dalot
    Fernandes Garnacho
    Højlund

Not expecting anything points-wise from this game, but I want us to give Arsenal a proper game. If they're gonna win, make them earn it. I suspect Licha and Shaw being out will mean Saka will tear us a new one, but with full commitment and concentration, anything can happen.

This would be a total disaster. We must start Yoro, there are absolutely no problems with starting him.
The other disastrous option would be to play Dalot at LCB, but then no LWB and Dalot not experienced in that position

I think letting Yoro start against Arsenal in his first competitive match for us is a bit risky, both for him and for United.

Nervous about this one, I hope we don’t concede too many goals, we have been very open, if the opposition teams were more clinical, we could have conceded more goals.. Let’s go United!
