Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Anyone hoping for a draw or loss to Arse because it would benefit Pool otherwise should check themselves IMHO. United should always want to win, especially against those clowns. We ourselves have lost to many teams "worse" or even "far worse" than us on paper. To quote the great Johan Cruyff: "Football is a game you play with your mind."

I have read all 3 pages of this and not seen 1 post saying I hope we lose so Liverpool dont win the league...

Where are you getting this from? Unless it is your opinion?
While I could do so, I am not going to quote the post, but there is literally a post on the same page as mine which says something along the lines of 'I hope we don't win this, it could hand Liverpool the title.'

It's a bit weird to go after me when over the years we've seen this so often with posters hoping we lose games.

Interesting because I see no post in any of the page that says they hope we lose so Liverpool don't win the league....

Bit weird because you said under Ten Hag you half understood but not under Amorim, yet no one has said they want us to lose ?

A Utd victory will hand Liverpool the title.
I hate this feeling, but I'm use to it now!
I honestly don’t care about that nor should any supporter tbh. We’re honestly lucky that the scousers didn’t pass our title haul under Klopp. It was bound to happen at some point but all I care about is Amorim raising this club back to those standards again. If the scousers win no. 20, we could aim to be the first to win 21.

    My lineup

    De Ligt Maguire Shaw
    Maz Ugarte Mount Dalot
    Amad Bruno
    Højlund

Those 3 CBs should be able to protect Onana well, especially during set pieces. I included Mount because we'll need legs/mobility in there to compete with Merino/Odegaard. I can see Casemiro getting booked quite early with how quickly arsenal move the ball. Mount also played beside Ugarte last game, so maybe Amorim is thinking about it. Rashford can come in after about 70mins to run at the tiring Gabriel and Saliba.

I guess it will be instructive now to quote the post I was indirectly referring to.

Do you need any more evidence?

I guess it will be instructive now to quote the post I was indirectly referring to.

Do you need any more evidence?

Yes, because the poster is not saying we should lose...

They are just merely pointing the fact that if we win Liverpool go further clear.

I am sure most United fans hate the feeling of Liverpool winning the league. The poster has never said they want us to lose...

So unless you can show me where fans are saying they want us to lose, its something you are making up.

Couldn’t care less about the title race when we’re playing. Our growth as a team and the confidence we’d gain if we can beat Arsenal, considering where we were a couple of weeks ago, matters way more to me.

I think we need to be a little more defensive here. Had Martinez been available, I’d have Dalot and Shaw as wingbacks, with Maz, Martinez, and DL as the CBs. Oh well, as it stands, I’d go with the following.

    Onana
    Maz - DL - Shaw
    Amad - Ugarte - Casemiro - Dalot
    Bruno - Mount
    Hojlund
Tough on Rashford but he can come off the bench for Hojlund or Mount or even Casemiro (with Bruno dropping back) depending on how the game is going

Er, what exact aspect of being worried about Liverpool stretching clear does not imply that the poster hopes we lose?

I mean, there's another user who has basically made the same point as I have: that wanting us to lose so Liverpool don't win does not help us.

Your argument (if such a term is apt here) is nestling at the base of the trashcan.

half dead Shaw pushing up and Dalot tracking Saka is the stuff of nightmares.

Amorim will defo go Case/Ugarte in my opinion. I'll only be concerned if it's a battering, I don't think their squad is that amazing but they should really beat us given how we've been playing and there are players still learning this system/making mistakes.
Shaw has looked excellent since coming back, not sure why you're calling him "half dead".

A hard one as we're learning a new system and a bunch of unfit players. I'm not expecting a win here, but if we are compact and smart with the ball we could nick it. Difficult to pick the team as it is now, let alone coming up against a proper top team.

    Rasmus
    Mount Amad
    Dalot Bruno Ugarte Mazraoui
    Shaw Maguire MDL
    Onana

He’d done like 3 lots of 30 mins and has been out for a long time. Starting against Arsenal would worry me greatly as the staff clearly don’t think he can do a half yet, let alone 90mins.

Well he’ll have to, because we don’t have another option there. Trotting out Evans or Maguire in that spot is just asking to lose from the get go.

Reckon they could put Maz at LCB without much issue. I also don't think Maguire is that bad a shout, we would just be sensible on that side and Dalot would need to hang back a lot more, which will likely be the case given I assume we will be on the back foot for much of the game.

This is coming too early. I would have preferred more time to settle in the new system and then go up against a good side. Could have been an interesting contest.

I don't have much hope honestly. Coach is still learning about the players and players are still learning the system. Not a best situation but it is what it is.

    Onana
Mazr - De Ligt - Shaw
    Amad - Casemiro - Ugarte - Dalot
    Bruno - Garnacho
    Hojlund
Mostly guesswork. I think he'll keep swapping players back and forth for a while so will probably swap out a lot who played sunday.
Mazraoui, De Ligt, Casemiro and Bruno came off early so they probably come back in. Mainoo and Martinez being suspended pretty much decides two more places. I dont think any of our forwards have really made a strong case to be selected every match so he'll swap things there and maybe at wing back. You'd be reluctant to drop amad though and i dont particularly rate the alternatives so maybe not.

I can see the Gooners being organised, assertive and creating plenty of opportunities. Reckon they’ll score 2 or 3. If we get our shit together then we might just match them. Don’t see it being a low scoring game either way.

anyone else still hate Arsenal and their fans more than any other team in the league? I guess that's a by product of becoming a United fan when I was a kid in the late 90's/early 2000s

    Most dislikable manager 100%
Fans are probably better than Pool’s though.

Pretty bad ground for us. In recent years it’s absolutely shocking. 6 losses in the last 7 seasons. Always seems to be a big atmosphere for them when they play us. Definitely the two most supported teams in London.

You've missed out the FA Cup one in 2019 when Sanchez, Lingard, and Martial scored

Our record away to most top teams has been shocking in general. Especially Chelsea and Liverpool.

I don't think it will happen but I would love it if Maz was on the left for us so he can try to stop Saka. I am not saying he can stop him, but he sure as feck can do a better job at it than Dalot.

Since Maz on the left probably won't happen, and the loss of Martinez, I would go with Harry as the LCB and Luke as the LWB, and tell Luke he just has to make it to the 60th minute at which point we can bring on Dalot.

Wingbacks aren't really defending against wingers. They're picking up the full backs. I guess they'd be defending against quick switches and crosses but i wouldn't be particularly worried about saka in that context and dalot is pretty good in them situations.
It'll probably be shaw picking him up.
