What the hell is this lineup

You would have thought it would have been better to rotate against Everton.

You disagree? It's a real slap in the face. I was looking forward to this game.
Amad without cover from Maz behind him can be easily exposed by Martinelli. If Maz is shifted to left then we need to go more defensive on right.

My conclusion is he went very conservative to start the game. He'll observe in-game and adjust offensively rather than the other way around which could be disastrous.
    Trust the manager.

I’m a big fan of Amorim rotating the squad and giving everybody a fair chance (albeit som changes are forced).
Been missing good rotation from our previous managers, and the result was that our backups always looked way off once they got the chance/someone was unavailable.

Would’ve liked to see Amad again though, but he did have cramps at the end of the previous match, so perhaps not fit for a start today.

As expexted Yoro will be managed. Malacia is a surprise

Yeah but if rotate at Everton and don’t win it’s a problem. Even if we play our strongest XI at Arsenal no one is expecting us to win.

We did. Martinez got suspended and Shaw got hurt after the game.

Hojlund, Garnacho, mount, Bruno and Ugarte is the best group of 5 for the midfield and attack that we have and the group the most suited to Amorim, and those who understand their roles the best. Casemiro and Eriksen are too old and immobile for the midfield, Rashford and zirkzee too lazy off the ball, and Mainoo only just back from injury and suspended.

Dalot is an automatic starter. Mazraoui and de ligt are automatic starters. He picked Maguire and Malacia as our other defenders are injured and a tired Amad up against Martinelli would just be a bad idea.

Other than what we’re forced into due to injuries and suspensions, is the crux of this meltdown the one change, Malacia for Amad?

Trying to understand why people are freaking out.

General consensus was we would lose this game. The shit being lost in here over the lineup is baffling.

Have faith, he’s chosen this lineup for a reason. It’s almost like he’s got better insight into player conditions/injuries than we do.

The big positive is we’ll at least have Amad and probably Rashford on in the second half. Should be scarier than anything Arsenal can bring on

This is the sit back and counter side, with Mount dropping into midfield and Malacia and Dalot playing like full backs rather than wing backs.
Yea he’s adapting to strong opposition with what he feels is the best hand he’s got. Can see the idea as you have pointed out. Going to be interesting.

Guys, thinking about it, line up is not bad at all. Calm down. It would be an interesting match of chess if we can hold the defense line. We are going for the counter attack. For Arsenal, they will surely tempt us to move up to expose the weaknesses. Our players have to hold up the defensive formation and absolutely not go for high press. Amorim comment in the presser makes more sense now.

Don’t try and use logic mate

Mikel Arteta gives the vibes off he enjoys giving himself a colonoscopy using his own head instead of a camera.

    What a bellend.

Why? Those are both really good football players. I'm sure they will link up really well.
Link up play is fine, just don’t think they’ll stretch Zinchenko in isolated areas in the way Amad or Rashford would’ve done if they started.

Worried about Malacia starting but other than that it’s a good team

I said earlier in the thread he won’t play 2 full backs in a back 3 away at Arsenal

Godwill Kukonki to come on at half time and score by running through the entire Arsenal team.

In all seriousness though, great to see Amorim adding him to the bench for the experience.

I think he’s genuinely almost thrown this game, and is looking at the bigger picture. He knows he needs all players to start matches, but also has to start picking up points quickly. So he gets the points on the board in must win games and gives minutes in matches like this, which was always a massive task to get anything from. If we do happen to sneak a draw or even win, then he’s a genius. If it’s a defeat, well he’s already managed expectations in saying the storm is coming.

Otherwise you surely start Amad - and even Rashford - tonight.

Looks like it. Amad really has been phenomenal but it didn’t look like he’ll be able to start this game after Everton. Amorim also said that they have to work on his physical capacity to do his role for the full 90 mins. I guess it’s logical that he is not pushing him and getting him injured. Managing minutes when the load expected from the players has increased is the best way to mitigate injuries. This is what Ten Hag never did, and we ended up with most of our squad injured for most of his reign. At least it’s clear that Amorim is prioritising athleticism / fitness level over quality at the moment, and telling the players that they’ll start only when they can give 100% on the pitch.

Ruben making 6 changes to his starting team shows he's still in full experimental mode and trying to find out who's best to trust in the months ahead.

Arsenal away with Malacia,Magurie starting along with Dalot who's prone to switching off in defensive situations is sure to give us supporters heartburn watching..

A slap in the face.

Some people just love to be dramatic. This looks like he will set up to sit in deeper and let Bruno and Mount link to play Garnacho and Rasmus in. If it works I wonder will it still be a Shakespearean slap in the face to these drama llamas?

It's good to have a manager again that puts out a starting eleven to suit the opposition we're facing, than just blindly putting out the same team based on who played well last game. SAF vibes there, definitely.
