Other than what we’re forced into due to injuries and suspensions, is the crux of this meltdown the one change, Malacia for Amad?

Trying to understand why people are freaking out.
If we had Redcafe in the Fergie glory days, people on here world still be freaking out.

This line-up made me think I know nothing about football. Have a full trust in Amorim’s decisions and very impressed by his squad management. Bet nobody here guessed strarting XI.

What the hell is this lineup

You would have thought it would have been better to rotate against Everton.

Perhaps he like most people expect them to beat us so rests our players to definitely beat Everton?

I'm (moderately) surprised that two players scored two goals last match -- and neither one starts. Form is chimerical. Whether those were beautiful goals or not, they still scored, and it seems wrong to take someone off who's on a hot streak.

I'm guessing Mount will be playing further back with Ugarte next to him. Bruno will go a-wanderin' so hopefully Mount resists the urge to get forward as well, or we will be revisiting the famous Donut Formation.

You’re absolutely right, we should have no concern about his second game coming up against Arsenal and Saka.

Feel free to be concerned. The point you are arguing is someone pointing out it was silly to say that the lad is "finished at this level" after watching 45 minutes of him.

Numerous people have said they are concerned about that area of the pitch today which is fine.

Hard not to expect us to take a complete battering with the likes of Maguire and Malacia playing. Impossible to play such an aggressive press.

He needs to rotate though so it is what it is.

He’s not going to get every starting 11 right. Let’s actually watch the game first and see what happens before we wet ourselves.

Hey, if you're optimistic then good on you.

Oh I think there is a reasonable chance we could lose this game. I think the same would be true no matter what lineup we put out. Although upsets often happen when these threads are full of people throwing tantrums before the match.

Saying a player is finished at top level after watching 45 minutes of his comeback following a long term injury? Calling it a slap on the face to you to rotate your lineup in the busiest period of the year?

    It's embarrassing.

Tbf, we're just matching their energy. Both teams are going quite defensive.

    They're playing 3 CBs, 1 LB, 2 DMs and 4 attackers.
    We're paying 2 CBs, 2 RBs, 1 LB, 1 DM and 4 attackers.

For all of those having a meltdown about Amad not starting, did you see him by the end of the game against Everton? He was absolutely knackered. He also went down with cramp (?) at one point.

I would imagine the plan was always to go with two natural defenders as wing backs at Arsenal, presumably Dalot & Maz, but Shaws injury & Martinez’s suspension have properly screwed those plans. Malacia is our left back deputy so he gets the nod. It’s risky, and it might be a disaster, but no one can complain that Amorim isn’t giving everyone a fair chance.

You have to trust the Amorim's judgement but unless there were zero options, Malacia showed in the B/G game, physically he is not yet ready, having to mark Saka could be a very difficult night for him!

Not complaining but felt like it was a troll when I saw that lineup.

Just got to trust Ruben here.

Guys, this is seriously the best answer we can throw at Arsenal. If this doesn't work then still fine. It proves that the manager is thinking out of the box.

I'm trying, but I really can't see us getting anything out of this game with that team. But you never know...

Really excited for each game now, looking forward to see how we perform. Surprising lineup for sure, but I don't think I would be any less worried no matter who started the game.

If we somehow manage to get a win out of this match, the Amorim hype train will be exiting earth atmosphere and heading to the moon.

Kukonki on bench. Interesting. Maguire in a back 3 out of possession it's a 5 with Dalot and Malacia. Mount with Garnacho and Hojlund.

Bruno will play as a CM with Ugarte which looks good and change with mount I suppose .

As long as we don't get caught with the ball in silly areas . Let's see .

I think Malacia vs Saka is an obvious issue point but almost as equally worrying will be the loss of progressive passes from our CBs which we rely on a lot. Martinez is a giant miss in this regard and Mazraoui will be playing on his weaker side (we assume).

I'm beginning to think Amorim doesn't really care about results just implementing his system. He's usually using this games the way managers use pre season fixtures.

How do you feel about that?

More worried about Malacia starting than Maguire. Mad decision to be honest, Saka will eat him alive.

Interesting team but to be honest I have a bit more faith that whoever we put out will do better than expected. This is a free hit for Amorim so rotating and trying to get more minutes into Malacia, Maguire & Mount isn’t a bad thing. Going in more defensive isn’t a bad thing either.

Mazraoui completely nullified Saka when playing for Bayern a few months agp.

It'll be him and Malacia against Saka.

If he proves me wrong, then great. I don't think he was good enough for us anyway. I especially don't think he's good enough for us after so long out. As for rotation, you play your best team in these games. We haven't given ourselves the best chance to succeed.

Nothing wrong with the line up. Squad rotation has been a key feature already under Ruben.
Every player will have their chances and every player will get a rest.

Yeah I get the impression he will rotate the players until he has them up to required fitness levels

Not feeling great about this, still anything 3+0 or better would be decent given where we are and where they are

hmmm...not sure about Malacia in there and i don't like Bruno next to Ugarte simply bc he is very indisciplined defensively and will leave Ugarte by himself too often dealing with Odegaard

Ruben has said all along that we're going to have some bad moments, one of those moments could be tonight.
But this is to be expected.

Yeah I like what he's building and fully expect tonight that we realise just how far we need to go
