12 weeks. Did his hamstring explode?

Probably didn't want to rush him this time.

Returning not fully healed players to the pitch and making their situation worse seems to be our trademark.

He should be put up for sale as soon as possible. Seems like a nice guy, and a really good footballer. But it's just to expensive having him in the treatment room all the time.
Why are people still posting unrealistic scenarios like this? To avoid financial hit, the club would need to sell him for around £30m. Who on gods earth would give us anything more than £10m for Mount? Even a loan wouldn’t make sense given his wages as he’s not to be trusted injury wise. We need to Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime this one out and try and get him fit.

Would be good to have him back, but as much as everyone says he’s ‘perfect for the system’ - I don’t think he’s good enough anyway. Not enough of a goal threat to play in what is essentially a front 3. I’m generally always moaning about Amorim’s system anyway - but I don’t like the idea of an attack of one striker and two midfielders. It’s a fecking blunt instrument without real cutting edge. In the long run, we need pace with and without the ball and a proper goal threat in these positions. We can’t just play Eriksen or Mount where others are essentially playing Son, Senenyo, Gordon and Gakpo etc.

Won't stay fit for more than 2-3 games. With the summer transfer window looming, it's better to keep him off the pitch and ready for a transfer, or at least a loan.

If he gets seriously injured again before the end of the season then we should come to an agreement with him to terminate his contract.

His £250k a week wages (~£12m a year) are just not sustainable in the context of everything else around the club.

Not his fault and I want it to work etc but it can't continue.

(Same goes for Shaw imo)

Hate to say it, but fully expecting him to get injured again before the season finishes. I don't even count him as our player anymore.

Also looking forward to having him back, but also expecting him to complete less than 300 minutes before getting injured again.

Good to see he's finally back in training. Surely not fit enough to participate tomorrow or on Sunday but thankfully no more games until April 1st and then he'll have 2 months to manage to stay fit and prove himself with good performances.

No sign of Shaw yet but that's not surprising.

Agreed. He's an off the ball counter presser at his best. Outside of moreenergy and being slightly better prepped than the likes of Zirkzee or Eriksen in half spaces, he's not adding that much. Does nothing for our one v one isloation play, goalscoring ability, or general pace and ball carrying skills.

At least we can finally end the hideous Zirkzee Hojlund partnership and go with two mobile players in the LAM and RAM positions. When will he actually play again? I assume Thursday is probably too early?

12 weeks. Did his hamstring explode?
Weird isn't it, at the time it sounded like a hyper extension, which most people come back from in 6-8 weeks max, sometimes even sooner. Maybe they are just being ultra cautious this time around. It would be devastating for him and United if it went again quickly, he also needs feel complete confidence in it to be able to play properly, so the sensible option would be give him as much time as possible.

I remember when he went off injured vs City, there was a sense of disappointment. And that wasnt solely because he got injured again, but I remember he was beginning to link up very well with the team and he was talked of positively. If he can stay fit it'll be good.

Hes a good fit in this squad for the time being. The issue with any injury prone player is that you can't depend on them. In a key position like one of the 10s in this system you need to be able to depend on the players there.

If he gets injured in any remotely serious way again before the end of the season he needs to be replaced. Shaw needs to go, potentially Martinez and Mount if he can't stay fit. No point having a player if they aren't available for large parts of the season.

Great news that he's making some progress, we need some more options to rotate the first choice players if nothing else. Hopefully he gets a bit of luck from here on out.

I don't think he would agree to that and I while I know it is frustrating, I don't think he really should. A contract is a contract and as long as he is not pretending to be injured (which he isn't) then it's sadly just a risk you take.

Also don't quote me on this but I think that might be really bad for us PSR wise as I believe it would bring all the costs forward.

I think we should forgot about actually playing him. But ask him to run around for the last 5 minutes of each match. Gentle training between games - like 1/20 intensity. No tackling or being tackled. Just gentle running.

By the end of the season, he would feature in 10-15 games (although minutes woild be low). Then we can sell him

I'd definitely be telling him to be a bit more measures in games.

He doesn't have to prove himself via sprints and distance covered. He's a good footballer. Show us some of that instead.

For all his injury faults, I do see a desire to get back and make himself available for selection that Shaw clearly doesn’t have.

I would say Shaw is close to considering retirement but would you walk away from all that money and the free top medical care the club is obliged to provide for him? Like the Rashford deal, we offered a player with question marks over their longevity and/or desire long new contracts on the back of their best ever form for us and were rewarded with the worst result possible. I think it's different with Mount who will desperately want to prove himself here but just can't stop breaking down.

Think you're right, opinion not overrated.

These estimates always ignore the fact that 1. we're on the hook for amortization and wages next season if he's kept on, so the "breakeven" for next season's PSR purposes is actually much lower, and 2. that our primary constraint is cash flow, not PSR.

I still have hope that if he is somehow able to recover from his I juries he could be a valuable asset for Amorin next year. He is obviously gutted a the amount of games missed but hope it can somehow translate to longevity in the future. A fit and in form Mount (I.e. Chelsea peak days) would be great in our system

Absolutely not convinced by Mount, but surely the 10 in Amorim's system is perfect for him

The Mount of a couple seasons ago is a perfect fit for those 10 positions. He was excellent at intricate passes but also attacking the box and grabbing some goals. Who knows if we'll ever see that player again though.

I think he was a terrible for Ten Hag mainly as he had to cover distance which he's never been good at.

Trying to think of a player who had the sort of injury problems Mount has had over several seasons only to come back and be able to play consistently.

The closest I can think of is Gundogan, who was riddled with injuries over a few seasons at Dortmund, including one back injury that for a while looked to have him completely fecked. But even then, I don't think he had back to back seasons where he played as little as Mount has since landing here.

The obvious ones are Dembélé and Van Persie, if you take some liberties with consistently there is Robben who played roughly 60%-70% of Bayern games.

Dembele - was out for long periods at Barca.

Varane was injured quite a bit too but also had consistent runs of games.

No, his hamstring did explode, and now they’re rushing him like hell because they want the next explosion to open up the Real Sociedad defence (and the Glazer’s piggy bank).

When you look at his time at Utd who do you think would buy him or even take on his wages for a loan?

This isn't the case of an underperforming player. It is one that is not even available to turn things around.

I don't know if there is a market. If there is, I know it's very small. But, it's better to try than to do nothing.

12 weeks. Did his hamstring explode?

Kind of. That would fit with the recovery time for a complete tear(with or without avulsion) which is anywhere between 3 to 6 months.

Between now and the end of the season does anyone recon Mason will play a full 90 minutes?

I’d be amazed…but would love to be proved wrong
