Probably a plan to get more investment whether that's partial ownership or stadium rights.
I would agree. Big money for football is in the middle east, if this gets built they are going to want to immediately announce a record naming rights deal as vindication for the project.

It will be interesting to follow this in regards to the finances. Planning a huge squad rebuild at the same time as financing a 100k seater stadium...hmm.

They can just borrow the money and pay it off over a hundred years.
No big deal.

Probably sell the naming rights also.

Where will we play whilst it's being built and OT is being demolished?

Do we share with City?
Hard to tell from the video but maybe they planned it so the inner actual stadium could be built next to Old Trafford before demolishing. Or maybe the entire thing.

It’s absolutely hideous.

The day we leave Old Trafford is the the day the last part of the club I grew up supporting dies.

Sad day this.

I wonder if Saudi or Qatar would want their name plastered over a stadium that is designed after a devil's trident.

Maybe they wouldn't care, who knows.

My first impression was I don't particularly like those three very tall towers/"pins"/lightning rods, but then I watched the video explanation by Norman Forster, and he said they are tridents, which totally makes sense now as it's the logo of the Red Devil holding the trident .

Any word on the funding?
It seems to be misreported in the media - i.e. Sky announcing United to leave OT but Sir Jim made it crystal clear that is not the case, nothing is done. It will only happen if the gov commit big money to the broader redevelopment of the area. He said something along the lines of they can finance the stadium on its own but they won't do it without the commitment to a big public investment. So I am somewhat slowly pessimistic it will ever happen.

That looks weird.

They should have released some designs for the fans to vote on it.

No. You need a vision, and the reality is fans are not good designers and don’t know what they want.

Every design will have its detractors. You would gain nothing except more dissent and delay by having a vote on it.

Just imagine if you voted on a new name - you would get Old McBoatFace Trafford.

I think the point is its purposefully not designed in the manner of an actual trident, hence the thought maybe they've half a mind on longer term investment/not offending potential suitors.

I like that their rationale for the large covered spaces was literally "it rains a lot in Manchester".
The outer undercover area is asking to be used in a similar way to the O2 - Filled with bars, restaurants, shops, etc. to keep the money rolling in outside of just games. PSR is forcing football down this route.

Does anyone know if the Spurs/Everton designs ended up much different to their initial concepts?

Oh I hadn't noticed that there was a viewing platform up that tower. That's cool actually, will pay the 50 quid it inevitably costs to go up it (once).

It looks hideous! I agree with the Circus/Butlins comments!

Feels like when Homer Simpson was asked to design a car!

Looks absolutely stunning. About fecking time we set the standard and act like the biggest club in world football.

Now this is unlikely but my only hope is for the stands to be close to the pitch.

Looks both weird and absolutely fantastic. No point having a wonderful 100k stadium when we are bottom half though- so they better get going on the squad rebuild too.

My initial thoughts was what on earth is that? But it has already grown on me quite quickly.

I think if they get the towers and the canopy lighting up in red it would look really cool.

It's still all ifs and buts and reliant on other factors if this stadium goes ahead but judging with how big a deal the club are making of the announcement I think would suggest they a pretty confident that this is a go.
