Music Sam Smith (Singer)

That's exactly my point though. I spent ages in this thread writing some posts because I checked everything few times that I didn't use he instead of they, and yet again I missed it few times and made a mistake. So I reckon he did the same, especially because he never made a mistake, and yet he didn't spend half a second paying attention to capital letters. For someone that pays such an attention to details, I found the lack of capital letters pretty weird. But each to their own I guess.

I was actually more mad that someone was trying to copy rimaldo. He is our resident avoiding capitals merchant and no one should take that away from him.

I'm so lost.

Do you think @stepic and @rimaldo skip capital letters because they forget to press the shift key, because they're not paying attention? That if they re-read their own posts they go "gosh darnit, I forgot those capital letters again! Oh well, maybe I'll remember next time."?

It's clearly a choice. And even if it wasn't, what's the charge here? That it's not just negative, but even an indictment of modern society, to care more about not misgendering people than pressing shift keys? Some years ago I told my brother that a word he regularly used for Japanese is an ethnic slur, and since he works with cars he talks about Japan a lot. He made an effort to change his vocabulary, at least around me, which means that after quite a few slip ups due to habit I haven't heard that word from him in a very long time. Is it an indictment of the modern world that he doesn't want to be racist against Japanese people, even though he doesn't always pay attention to things and makes quite a few spelling mistakes?

Can't stand SS as a singer, voice goes through me I instantly change the station if they comes on.

The outfit is clearly attention seeking though something they likes to do a lot.

To go from getting it right to adding in the deadname and trans reference is clearly not clumsy.
Sorry, if they didn't make a trans reference they'd be called out for erasing an attack/crime against a trans person?!

Like seriously.

Of course she’s Irish

Sounds like she’s been in the states a while. We don’t say ped-o-phile.

Some (and I really do just mean some, don’t attack me irish Americans) of the irish American communities are very racist and bigoted.

100%. As are some of the Irish Irish communities. Which we’re seeing with the recent protests.

Yeah true. I do think those protests are a really tiny minority though. I reckon there’s a sizeable percentage of those protests are made up of the same group people who attend all of those rallies interspersed with some locals with genuine concerns.

Although that is obviously very unpleasant it's due to his latest song being called unholy and the overtly sexualised content of the video, etc. that is getting the evangelical's up in arms rather than any pronoun Sam Smith chooses to use.

Yes, but no doubt some posters already thought because he is non binary.

I can see that.

Adding the deadname in the 2nd version is absolutely not “clumsy” though.
To not report she's trans when there's a significant chance it's a hate crime would be misleading and wrong.

The deadnaming is most likely just spelling out what trans means to a section of the readership who are a bit oblivious. It's factual and a matter of record, but clearly it's been later removed as possibly someone from the family requested it because it's perceived as disrespectful and there is an argument about its relevance. The idea that her birth name was added in out of spite is highly unlikely to be true- they're respecting her pronouns etc.

I think people underestimate how newsrooms work. Breaking news is bashed out quickly and some titles, including the Telegraph, Indy and Guardian have little to no subbing in many sections- it's done by the reporter and the news editor usually. Stuff gets edited in later -often repeatedly with several people going into a story- as it becomes clearer and to backfill gaps in information etc...

People could definitely be forgiven for thinking either of you had a bit of an issue with pronouns.
Feel free to read my exchange with sizzlingsausage on this thread yesterday which explains my position.

I was not particularly fond of them or their music, but they enrages all the right people, and that's great.

Hard to take him seriously after the crying outside his mansion lockdown video, guy loves attention.

Ridiculous isn't it.

I appreciate your work in this area and I look forward to the fixing of all these broken words.
Thanks! Not sure it was a completely serious suggestion mate.

It's always funny to remember that earlier on in the culture wars it was people like good old Piers who used to call the other side snowflakes all the time. Now they get vociferously triggered by words like "fisherthem".

To be fair using the term 'fisherthem' is so dumb that it deserves to be ridiculed.

Just a bunch of desperate losers who can’t cope with the fact that the world keeps changing. Their whining and their jokes is all they have left in a world and a culture that’s passed them a long time ago. Must be a sad existence. Desperately clinging on to something that’s not even there anymore.

Or, it's just people who are free to make up their own minds (as I'd hope we all are) about what they want to call or not call other people? 'Desperate losers' isn't a very helpful description if you are hoping to change people's opinions by the way.

You’ve never been able to call people whatever you want. At least not without consequences. So I really don’t get your point.

HTG seems to have made a decision on what to call you, and it's very mild.

You can but yes there can be consequences for that depending on what is said or to whom. I'm not however on the side of trying to change other people's opinions, whereas you appear to be which is why I was just suggesting that your comments are probably going to do the opposite of what you want (if indeed changing opinions is your goal here, if it isn't then fair enough I guess)
