Man United appoint Moyes | Round, Woods, Lumsden, P Neville in; Giggs player/coach; Albert stays

So between 2003-2006, how many here wanted Fergie out? How many in them years, were the ones giving dogs abuse to the players and manager at Old Trafford matchday's when we didn't win anything?

A bit of patience some of you!! He hasn't even started for feck sake!!

On the plus side, Pool fans really do hate him! :D

Last time he was going to retire, he was bigging up O'Neill an Queiroz. I bet you would also say the same thing.

Back then, O'Neill was going places. His wife's illness put paid to his chances of managing a top side. He's never really regained the magic touch he showed then. Who knows about Queiroz. He was on a hiding to nothing at Real (weird appointment that) and that, I think really queered the pitch for him anywhere else. But at the time Fergie was saying things about them, he wasn't far wrong.

Only if you are very sensitive. You and MUFC and all it's machinations and meetings with Moyes are not at the same level to make this decision, if you were then yes it would be a matter of opinion. They have invested a bit more than opinion in this appointment.

As they do in every signing and yet some go wrong. They're allowed to make mistakes Moses and therefore we're allowed to discuss it.

I was critical of this appointment last night as I didn't believe Moyes was the best candidate for job. I am still unsure as to whether he is or not, but I am warming to him more so than I was yesterday evening.

Huge task, but I admire his ambition and confidence in taking it on. Good luck, Davy, lad.

Yet I don't need to be at that level to hold an opinion.

Of course they've invested a bit more than opinion into it, but it doesn't change the glaring aspects that quite a few people seem to be concerned about. And what's wrong with people being concerned about things? Nothing. They're entitled to it. It shouldn't be any kind of a big deal that some people disagree with the appointment. Peoples opinions differ.

Where the trust aspect comes from, is to get behind the new manager which is what is happening. Trust them that even though your opnion differs greatly to theirs, trust that they've made the right decision and that you might be wrong.

Never wanted him due to his lack of european experience and experience at Top clubs but needless to say, he'l have my full backing and hopefully that of Every fan because he'L need it.

Really proves how highly saf values grit and determination, be it players or his Successor. This is his appointment..

I just hope he starts on good note because the media And certain fans will be very quick to crucify him. Cant help feeling a big signing will soothe a lot of nerves. I really hope he proves me wrong, stability is v important atm.

One thing for sure though, he needs to ensure our standards dont fall.

I can't wait to see how this thread progresses over the next couple of years...

Good luck to him, he will need it. Replacing SAF successfully will require so much luck it's unbelievable. Going to be weird after we score a goal and the camera cuts to Moyes instead of SAF.

Funnily enough, most of those 'we-should-never-question-Sir-Alex-decision' brigade were moaning about Fergie's decision on team selection, players been bought, team's tactic, etc. hundreds of times in the past.

Oh, the ironing.

If Fergie's decision making hadn't been historically excellent overall he wouldn't be considered the greatest manager of all time. Of course he got the team wrong from time to time. Of course all his transfers weren't huge successes. This, however, is very different: This is his last call in command. He's been monitoring Moyes for years. It's not a random idea on his part, it's something he has planned for a good while.

:o

So this was the 'cream of the cream' you were going to get after Ferguson? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Liverpool fans I have spoken too are delighted with the news.

Its similar to us saying taking the piss out of their managers. (KRAP Campaign etc...)

IF he succeeds it will be all the more sweeter

Best of luck David. I've always liked him.

Have any of the ex United to Everton plays said anything yet? id like to hear the opinion of P.Neville especially.

Ahh you werent that harsh on him -

"If you're happy with Manchester United playing abominable, reprobate football, good for you. "

fecking hell, anyone watching Sky Sports News and seen the state of the first United fan interviewed?

I think Phil would have nothing but glowing words for Moyes. After all, the fecker was made captain of the club and playing for them long after his skills had deserted him.

Which is somewhat ironic, they have outspent us, and yet sit below the team currently managed by the man they are laughing at who've spent a tenth of their budget.

What the feck do they think will happen when he can match their spending?

How is it poor form? I said in that big David Moyes thread last year that he wouldn't be my choice for the job. Should I now run around and make a liar out of myself and declare him World Class, the best fit imaginable for the club, a superbly stunning appointment etc etc etc, purely because he's here? That's no better than the people who say a player is shit until they sign for us.

I don't think he's the best man for the job, I never have, but he's here now and i'll support him with the job he has. Fair play to him, it's a huge job and people obviously think he's done plenty right to give him it. Big test for him and I hope he passes it. If he proves me wrong, i'll be delighted.

But nobody here should be playing the one up card and questioning fellow fans support purely because they haven't wet themselves with glee at our new managerial appointment. People are allowed an opinion. Has anyone told you to not be happy about it?

No need to get upset! Jose Mourinho was my first choice, but I am perfectly pleased to see us appoint David Moyes as that was Sir Alex' choice. He obviously knows quite a bit more about football than you and I do.

yeah. wouldn't expect anything except glowing praise from Phil Neville.

They are allowed make mistakes and I'll be all for discussion. To assume it's a mistake already with a fraction of their knowledge is a bit silly.

Moyes is all about the club (and the Glazers) getting more bang for their buck.

That graph is absolutely fantastic and can easily be used to show how Moyes is the second best manager in the league. That really is a fantastic statistic and has me looking forward to this season all the more.

Good Luck David. Glad they gave him a 6 year contract, they are saying we are giving you the same time we gave Sir Alex and are showing faith in you.

Disagree all you want, but it follows that folk might disagree with you. Panic away.

It will be interesting to see how he identifies players good enough for United and how he spends the money, he will quickly have to learn to identify top quality players and not those on a level with Everton.
