Man United appoint Moyes | Round, Woods, Lumsden, P Neville in; Giggs player/coach; Albert stays

This appointment makes more sense the more I think of it. Welcome to the club, Mr Moyes!

And it seems to be working...

I'm generally pissed at the way the board has taken the appointment. Might stay away for a bit. Then you have opposition fans on wums. We really don't need that right now.

As fans there is nothing more we can do than welcome Moyes with open arms and get behind him with our 100% support.

It is a big change as a lot of us have never known anyone outside of Ferguson as our manager, but the change has come and it has come from the recommendation of the great man that we owe so much to.

When Ferguson took over an astonishing 27 years ago Matt Busby acted as the master to ferguson his apprentice, he instilled the drive, determination, and mainly the ethos and ideology of the club into ferguson, something that defines man utd.

I am thrilled that Ferguson is staying and you can bet your life that his influence and role in the club is still going to be felt. similarly to how busby moulded ferguson into the manager that defines our great club, ferguson will do the same for Moyes, and that is unequivocally important, and fills me with a lot of satisfaction and confidence.

Moyes has a huge task ahead of him, but with the help and close relationship with ferguson, which would not have been the case had we hired the egotistical arrogant Mourinho, no man is bigger than the club and Moyes just like Ferguson knows this.

All we can ask for is that he puts absolutely 100% into the job, and you can bet your life that he will do that, and under the tutelage of ferguson he has the potential to achieve great things at this wonderful club.

I fully endorse the decision and am completely committed to his reign at man utd as we leave one historical era and enter another.

It is a time of change and we have to embrace it.

Good luck David Moyes, you have my full support, and you could not have a greater teacher to learn what it means to be at Manchester United.

Tranfers are indeed a part of it, especially if you contrast it to someone like Mourinho's spending. But Moyes has proven he can bring stability to a club and build long term, again if you contrast Mourinho who is entirely focused on short term success and often leaves his club in a precarious position. Madrid fans can't wait to get rid of him, Inter Milan were left with a collection of 30+ year olds - there was little long term planning.

Personality wise he is a much better fit than Mourinho, who is frankly embarassing at times and lacks the class this club embodies.

You been on the blower to Bobby Charlton?

The fact that he was Sir Alex' choice should be enough. Poor form to challenge his final decision at the club.
He handpicked Moyes just like he handpicked our team to face City at the Etihad last season, he doesn't always make perfect decisions.

Starting to come to terms with Moyes in charge, it will be an interesting summer nonetheless. But if I was a Chelsea or a City fan, would be feeling pretty smug about this right now.

Great post

How is it poor form? I said in that big David Moyes thread last year that he wouldn't be my choice for the job. Should I now run around and make a liar out of myself and declare him World Class, the best fit imaginable for the club, a superbly stunning appointment etc etc etc, purely because he's here? That's no better than the people who say a player is shit until they sign for us.

I don't think he's the best man for the job, I never have, but he's here now and i'll support him with the job he has. Fair play to him, it's a huge job and people obviously think he's done plenty right to give him it. Big test for him and I hope he passes it. If he proves me wrong, i'll be delighted.

But nobody here should be playing the one up card and questioning fellow fans support purely because they haven't wet themselves with glee at our new managerial appointment. People are allowed an opinion. Has anyone told you to not be happy about it?

Funnily enough, most of those 'we-should-never-question-Sir-Alex-decision' brigade were moaning about Fergie's decision on team selection, players been bought, team's tactic, etc. hundreds of times in the past.

Oh, the ironing.

I think I support the opinion of the best manager of all time rather than a load of armchair fans who've never stepped foot in Old Trafford.
Good appointment.

Well that's not the opposite end of the sensationalist scale at all.

It's not a cop out. SAF and MUFC have sat the man down and spoke to him. I fabcy I know a bit about football but not as much as them on this matter. It'd have to be Steve Kean before I'd flip out. Moyes is a top bloke and really what he has done at Everton is great on 800k net spend a season. That shows he will work with players and he will work with an academy. I like the appointment. If Jose was the only other option I'm fecking thrilled it's Moyes.

Of course it's a cop out... you're saying that not agreeing with them means you don't care about the club because you don't trust them.

I do trust in SAF, which is why I'm getting behind Moyes. It doesn't change my own personal opinions or reservations, and just because I may not agree with their opinion has nothing to do with whether I care about the club or not. So we disagree, we're entitled to it. I happen to think we need a few positions sorting out in our club, SAF always disagreed with that, does that mean we don't care about the club? No, we just disagree with their opinion.

Welcome Mr Moyes, you have my full and patient support that is for sure. The six years to my mind isn't only a desire for longevity, loyalty and the rest, its also like a message from the club saying."hey, listen, we know this is going to be a really hard job, the hardest job in management following that great fella, so we're going to prove we understand this by giving you time...time to stamp your mark and make the job your own.."

well..something like that anyway...

One things for sure, all the nay sayers in this thread will turn on him so fast it will be insane.

Lets not do what Liverpool fans did to Hodgson. He's the boss of our club, and our old boss (who we worship) recommended him. Anyone who lived through SAFs first few years will understand

He handpicked Moyes just like he handpicked our team to face City at the Etihad last season, he doesn't always make perfect decisions.

Fair point. But if i was to trust one person to make the right call about our next manager, it would be Fergie undoubtedly and certainly not the average fan on here or in general.

Can everyone not happy with this appointment please surrender your Manchester United replica shirt at the door and board the nearest bus to West London.

Thank you.

You sound like you work for the Conservative Party or the BBC ;)

Roy Hodgson could have got them relegated if he stayed. He was an absolute embarrassment to them, the fans didn't do anything wrong.

If David Moyes ended up doing half as bad as Hodgson then we're in serious trouble. Lets hope he's a hell of a lot better than I sadly think he is.

Why do so may people these days post like they've written a press release?

One things for sure, all the nay sayers in this thread will turn on him so fast it will be insane.

Well. He has been given the keys to an F1 Ferrari. We just won the league by double digit points. We are going to strengthen our team in the summer (be interesting to see who he signs). The logical next step is to get back into the CL final (which we probably would have this season had it not been for the referee).

You expect him to succeed right from the start and anything less than a Premiership/CL trophy will be deemed a failure at this club.

I hope he doesn't wear that fookin tracksuit and trainers on the touchline.

Of course it's a cop out... you're saying that not agreeing with them means you don't care about the club because you don't trust them.

Only if you are very sensitive. You and MUFC and all it's machinations and meetings with Moyes are not at the same level to make this decision, if you were then yes it would be a matter of opinion. They have invested a bit more than opinion in this appointment.

One things for sure, all the nay sayers in this thread will turn on him so fast it will be insane.

Is that for sure?

I'm a naysayer, and while he's here i wish him nothing but the best and hope he makes a huge success of the job he's been given. I've no intention of turning on him and will give him all the support he needs to make a real go of this.

So shove that up your hole.

I hope he doesn't wear that fookin tracksuit and trainers on the touchline.

Can't be worse than this

38 trophies in 26 years.

Its safe to say he got far more right than wrong in his time.

Last time he was going to retire, he was bigging up O'Neill an Queiroz. I bet you would also say the same thing.

He handpicked Moyes just like he handpicked our team to face City at the Etihad last season, he doesn't always make perfect decisions.
It doesn't help to be critical without any substance either. Most important thing right now is patience. There will be things we won't like or it might just turn out fine. It doesn't change the fact that we are here to support the club.

Bolded the key part. People need to think and not just jump to conclusions :)

Yes, all those not delighted haven't thought this through. They've all just bumbled around together going "eh? Moyes?" and those who are happy are the smartest, most cleverest football fans around, who understand all there is to know about football and can see what the silly little non thinkers can't.

Seriously, people need to knock this whole "We're smarter than you and better fans than you because we want Moyes more than you" on the head.

Not what I was hoping for but I can see the positives behind the appointment. Fingers crossed.

I'm generally pissed at the way the board has taken the appointment. Might stay away for a bit. Then you have opposition fans on wums. We really don't need that right now.

We're the most successful side ever. Really don't let it get to you.
