Man United appoint Moyes | Round, Woods, Lumsden, P Neville in; Giggs player/coach; Albert stays

Best of luck to him, he's no doubt a top class manager, hopefully he can prove himself on the biggest stage of all. Very interested to see who'll be part of the coaching set-up.

Ferguson recommended Alec McLeish to Villa. Scottish manager's union at work again?

Yes that's what happened here, you dullard.

I know it's hard for you but stop being a shit-stirrer.

They've made it 6 years to prove a point. They want another Fergie. They don't seem to realise that there will never be another one. I do think it's a good appointment but our fans have to be patient. He'll do well in my eyes.

Here is my opinion on Moyes:

1)Wasn't my first choice tbh never even thought he was in the running cause of his lack of European experience.

2) Fergie hand-picked him. That means a lot.

3) He is recognized as a great coach in the premiership. Overachieved regularly with Everton and won manager of the year 3 times.

4) He has a certain class and humbleness about him. He won't drag our name through the mud, he wont leak stories to the media and he will behave in a way that I think I will appreciate.

5)He has something to prove. He is now at the big boys table, somewhere he has never been. Will he sink or swim? I think he will master the doggy paddle.

6) Our TEAM is good enough. This is the thing that is keeping me from totally freaking out. We have a very young and very good team. DDG,Rafael,Evans,Jones,Vidic,Carrick,Kagawa,Cleverley,Nani,Young,Zaha,Rooney,Welbeck,Chicharito, RVP. Add a few signings here and there and we can compete with anyone on a talent level.

7) It's a summer of change at the club.Fletcher,Nani,Anderson,Rooney,Scholes and Fergie in the same summer?! I hope Rooney and Nani stay. I've given up on Anderson.

8) Top three is the minimum for me. I hope he hits the ground running. A trophy in his first season would be huge. In Moyes we trust!

Very goods points, especially numbers 3 and 6. People forget that he's wom Manager of the Year 3 times. That's bloody good going for a guy without a trophy to his name.

I'm sure he would give Phelan a letter of recommendation too. There's a huge difference between recommending someone for some random job and choosing someone to be your own heir at the club you've managed for a quarter of a century.

Yes, really.

We're in a time where most of the top clubs are appointing managers for short term success. A new manager comes in two or three years later, destroys their entire system, scouting stuff, team management and so on. That's not us. We've appointed somebody that could potentially be with the club for over a decade. And believe me, that's not an exaggeration in saying that.

Can I guarantee Moyes will be a success and be long term? Hell no, nothing's guaranteed here. But there's way more positives than negatives. The only real negative you people can come up with is how the likes of Madrid wouldn't appoint David Moyes and how he has a shit away record against the top teams with Everton.

Moyes is a similar character to SAF. No, he's not exactly the same and no that isn't to say I expect him to come in to be SAF, but he's got similar traits in his temperament, his loyalty, his youth policy, his treatment regarding the squad, his strictness, his work ethic and so on. You think all of a sudden that Alex Ferguson, the guy that has done more than anybody for our club for the past 26 years, suddenly decides to stop giving a shit? Believe me, his recommendation of Moyes is more important than any single fans view and however much you try to argue that, it'll always be true. He wants what's best for this club and honestly, if he feels it's Moyes, he's probably right. That doesn't for one second guarantee us any success, no appointment what so ever does, but if there's one person we can truly trust it's Alex Ferguson.

People go on about Mourinho having the aura to be able to come in and cope with the pressure, mark my fecking words on this, David Moyes will be perfectly capable of pulling it off just as much as any other manager could. He's not some push over, he's always had strict policies and he's genuinely a fantastic fit for our club that can continue the fantastic setup and system we currently have, which is basically one of the best setup's and systems in world football.

Come back in a year. Or two. Or three. You can quote me on every single thing, because I'm that confident that David Moyes will be a sensational appointment and represent everything we are as a club. And I'll take it all day long over this idea that Fergie was a one off and you can't have managers that last more than a few years without replacing them.

The fact that he was Sir Alex' choice should be enough. Poor form to challenge his final decision at the club.

I hope the moderators slap the people calling for bans. Totally uncalled for frankly and makes us look like total nobs. This isn't RAWK, we're all allowed to have an opinion. This better not be an example of what it's going to be like next season.

I'm not going to lie, I'm underwhelmed by Moyes being our new boss but I wish all the best in the job and really hope he can hit the ground running.

He's got plenty plus points most of which SAF's recommendation and his managerial style but I have to admit I fear a player exodus and all kinds of doom and gloom stories in the media if that occurs. I hope that doesn't happen and I hope he signs the right players.

Good luck Boss Moyes!

Ferguson recommended Alec McLeish to Villa. Scottish manager's union at work again?

Fergie doesnt give a shit about Villa though. He probably thought it was funny.

feck, if Randy Learner bought a club knowing nowt about football and asked me, I'd have him recruiting Canon and Ball as a management team, soft lads own fault.

A man of integrity, widely respected and hand picked by Fergie himself.

Good enough for me!

It's an exciting new chapter. We're all still reeling and shocked at SAF retiring but, Moisty has my full support and I hope his tenure in charge is half as successful and as memorable as Fergie's, for himself and for us

6 yr contract is a great signal to the players about who is in charge welcome David Moyers

Welcome to Manchester United Moyes!

This feels really weird as a fan that's never experienced a change in manager. I'm looking forward to whats in store!

Well all you naysayers that think we have an average manager, tis only what average fans deserve. The LEAST he deserves is the benefit of the doubt.

I understand a lot of the nervousness given that most on here (myself included) either wern't born are were too young to really remember United pre-Fergie but the reaction from some is pretty disgusting.

He's the new manager. Give him a fecking chance.

Delighted its sorted quickly and delighted that we haven't gone for someone who'll turn the club into a soap opera or ego project.

Moyes strikes me as the sort that will just get his head down and work hard which is exactly what we need.

While I've always liked him during his time at Everton, I was mildly surprised when he was first said to be the man in line but all the reports I've heard from fellow pros and ex players about him have been incredibly positive.

People also shouldn't really judge him negatively on what he achieved at Everton, its a completely different club than Utd.

The fact that he was Sir Alex' choice should be enough. Poor form to challenge his final decision at the club.

How is it poor form? I said in that big David Moyes thread last year that he wouldn't be my choice for the job. Should I now run around and make a liar out of myself and declare him World Class, the best fit imaginable for the club, a superbly stunning appointment etc etc etc, purely because he's here? That's no better than the people who say a player is shit until they sign for us.

I don't think he's the best man for the job, I never have, but he's here now and i'll support him with the job he has. Fair play to him, it's a huge job and people obviously think he's done plenty right to give him it. Big test for him and I hope he passes it. If he proves me wrong, i'll be delighted.

But nobody here should be playing the one up card and questioning fellow fans support purely because they haven't wet themselves with glee at our new managerial appointment. People are allowed an opinion. Has anyone told you to not be happy about it?

Don't like that quote.

Oh for fecks sake.

The retirement of Fergie has collectively reduced the IQ on this board. He was at fecking Everton, ofcourse he's gonna look to stop the other teams best players.

Do you think Ferguson didn't made any plan for the other teams best player?

Christ.

Welcome to Manchester United David Moyes!

Can't say im ecstatic about this appointment. As with most fans, Moyes doesn't come with the track record that other top club managers have. However, you can't possibly question the judgement of Sir Alex and Bobby Charlton. They see something in him that maybe nobody else knows about.

I hope Moyes is given time to stamp his authority on the club. He is going to be facing tremendous pressure to win almost immediately though. I shudder to think what would happen if he went trophyless next season.

How's that? Unless you mean the "skint ethos" of the Glazers.

Tranfers are indeed a part of it, especially if you contrast it to someone like Mourinho's spending. But Moyes has proven he can bring stability to a club and build long term, again if you contrast Mourinho who is entirely focused on short term success and often leaves his club in a precarious position. Madrid fans can't wait to get rid of him, Inter Milan were left with a collection of 30+ year olds - there was little long term planning.

Personality wise he is a much better fit than Mourinho, who is frankly embarassing at times and lacks the class this club embodies.

I bumped a randomw Glazer thread to ask this (its closed now)

I think now we will find out what the owners are really like.

Fergie was unsackable and the owners knew that. So they left him alone and never interfered

I wonder if the Glazers are trigger happy?

Case in point, he's actually done it against Everton...... :D

6 years  that means if our fears over his ability at this level do manifest themselves we're stuck with him.

Anyway, best of look David.

Not my first choice, but he's here, get used to it. Let's all of us get behind him and give him the support he needs, just look at Benitez at Chelsea. We don't want anything like that. Moyes is here for the next 6 years and if you're not prepared to give him time (there might not be trophies for a couple years) either shut up or feck off.

Welcome to Manchester United.
