Pro Evolution Soccer 2012

Just played the demo. Last game I played was 2009 though. I like the way the players handled, felt more realistic. Keepers seem to go down too easily aswell. May buy it afterall.

And as mentioned, chico's and other ratings made me laugh

Is this demo out on xbox or is it a playstation exclusive?

It was supposed to be released on Xbox Live the same day as Playstation Network but they scrapped it last minute due to a "few issues".

So yeah, it's only on PSN. But the later demo will be released on both Xbox Live and PSN late Septemberish I believe.

The demo is rubbish. I don't know how anyone thought it would be a good idea to have an unskippable 5 minute long video play everytime you start the game. It's infuriating.

On PC, you can delete pes12pv and pes12ci to remove the intro.

But yeah, not impressed with the gameplay so far.

That's just horrible. And why are Van Persie and Aguero bald??

It's a patch made by demo modders. They have added many more teams from the initial 4, the players with the wrong faces or hair is just telling you when the video was made they haven't edited had the time to edit everything.

Nice to see the modders have taken the time to give North London and London FC their fully licenced kits...

I played bit of Pro Evo 6 with a new season update for a bit last night, just to wet my appetite till the next load of games come out.

It felt very dated as expected, but the level of enjoyment compared to the latest installments is still 50 times greater. There is still that feeling of satisfaction and joy when you score a goal, as opposed to the latest versions where the feeling is so lackluster that you're in doubt as to whether you actually scored the goal.

How did it manage to go so horribly wrong?

I think this is a really dumb move by PES.

For a start releasing 2 demos of a game trying to win back public favour is a bad idea because people will inevitably play the first, deliberately weaker demo, make their decision on that and forget about the 2nd one. But trying to tack the 2nd, better demo onto the release of the FIFA demo is even stupider, because it will purposely invite direct comparison, which is a fight PES can't win.

Once again FIFA has failed to make any dramatic changes and have released virtually the same game again, so if PES had waited another week and released their full demo once people had realised this, or even pre-empted FIFA by releasing a "close to full, or at least closer than the first one" demo last week, they might have got some traction. As it is though, they've probably lost potential customers by releasing a half finished demo weeks ago, and more by inviting direct comparison with a first play of the new FIFA12, which although a tweaked 11, is still much better, and will only make players view PES12 as "not-FIFA", rather than a better PES.

Spastics.

Is it significantly better than the first demo?

I haven't even bothered with the Fifa demo to be fair because I just don't care anymore. Though the first PES demo didn't fare that much better after I realised there was no way to skip the intro movie.

That said, I don't get why people get so excited over these things anyway. They're demos.

Can't agree with fifa being the same. The defending is completely different which in turn changes everything. The pace you play when attacking has been directly affected because of the change in defence.

The Ai is also massively different. They now play better with you, much more realistic runs etc...

Against you they are on another planet to previous fifa games. Van persie just destroyed my Dortmund with a hat trick including one goal where he completely took the piss out of my inadequate defending then open his shoulders and slotted home in the bottom corner. It made me chuckle and looked outrageous for ai to do that.

Whether i like this getting dicked by AI or not is another question, but it is different so far.

To be fair, 85 per cent is not bad considering previous years.

Well, as DFresh pointed out, the defending's harder. And that's what we all wanted from football games this year isn't it?...Oh if I had a penny for every time I'd thought "I wish they'd re-make FIFA11, but this time make it really hard to defend"

The defending being harder in turn makes the attacking better. No more defenders closing you down within seconds = good.

They must have put a lot of work in over the past 12 months to make the defending slightly harder.

A different planet from last year (Fifa 09).

Do you have to sit through that same stupid video to play a game?

That was a great idea.

If you had a penny for everytime I thought "I wish they'd re-make FIFA11, but this time make it really hard to defend" you'd be a very rich man.

Gameplay wise FIFA 12 is very different to FIFA 09, it's graphics wise that there has been no change, and bearing this is the most noticeable aspect of any game, gives off a strong sense of stagnation.

You said the same thing last year Pavan, despite the fact I gave both poor reviews. Although last year you added "your beloved PES", which was ironic considering your slavish, slobbering fanboyism of FIFA, hatred of any bad comments about it, and my complete indifference to both, and constant conclusion that FIFA is the better game.

There are very tiny details that have been improved on most aspects, you will notice it more and more if you play the demo some more. You just sound pompous, go back to playing your beloved PES;)(fanboy)

So well done. I particularly like the "you will notice more and more if you play the demo some more"...

Considering this was your appraisal of the PES demo only about a couple of hours after it had been out

Replays are bloody awful, wtf is with the extra slow motion

Verdict: Awful as ever, if not worse.

Glad to see you're at least consistent in your bias, if not the way you expect games to be rated. Your opinion of these games holds absolutely no value to me. You'd be happy with a 2nd hand version of FIFA11 with a 2 drawn on the end in marker pen.

Well I'd hope so, what with there being 3 years between them

it's graphics wise that there has been no change, and bearing this is the most noticeable aspect of any game, gives off a strong sense of stagnation.

I agree with that, and I'm sure there's an element of a sort of reverse emperors new clothes because of it, but as you've alluded to above, I can't shake the feeling this is the game FIFA10, or even FIFA11 should've been.

The problem with FIFA is they're making such small incremental changes that just about satisfy most people, send the rabid fanboys bezerk, and just about do enough to make everyone buy the game without being outright pissed off with it and not like they are with PES.

But the leaps between titles are sparse. This should be very different to FIFA09. But FIFA10 should've been too. It wasn't. It feels like half a sequel, with the real "next game" coming the year after. Do you follow? It feels like they're doing half the work each year, because they know they can only do half the work next year too, and get twice the pay.

I remember when the new release was actually a big improvement, rather than a small, "just about enough to justify it" improvement.

Mockney - For me Fifa has improved atleast by 40%

The player models are vastly imrpoved, defending is improved, the precision dribbling has brought a new authenticity to attacking play in tight spaces. The gameplay is a lot more smoother rather than rusty fast old game play we have been used to. I would say it resembles Fifa world cup game (the gameplay). The tackling is harder and feels like you have achieved something when defending and the goals are a lot harder to create because the AI is more clever this year. And finally the graphics on which not many reviewers haven't touched that much up on, but they almost resemble PES. The facial detail, player models (physique) and the hair are all fantastic (imo).

I would like it if they could make it (FIFA) so attacking players are rewarded in online games. Last year's game was jam packed with people playing ultra defensive and hitting on the counter. The game shouldn't be balanced that way.

With respect Paven it's hard to take anything you say on this subject seriously because you wax lyrical about the FIFA demo every year.

OK

The player models are vastly imrpoved

They're not vastly improved at all. They're improved at just the minimum amount for it to justify being a new game. From a gameplaying in-match angle, it looks almost identical to FIFA11

defending is improved

Defending is different. It's probably improved, but will need a little time to adjust to. It's harder, but not everyone wants to test themselves ferociously to the limit of gaming prowess, some people - in fact, most people - just want to have a kick around on a good football game and score some goals.

the precision dribbling has brought a new authenticity to attacking play in tight spaces.

This is exactly the kind of shit you'd expect to see written on the back of the box straight from the PR department. The dribbling is practically the same as it was in 11. Slightly lighter yes.

The gameplay is a lot more smoother rather than rusty fast old game play we have been used to

The rusty fast old game?..So, FIFA 11, that you though was fantastic and vastly improved on 10 is a rusty fast old game now? You're like those old Bold adverts from the days you were only allowed to compare your products against your own, older products "This year's Bold gets your shirts EVEN WHITER than last year's Bold, which, actually, in retrospect, was crap, even though we told you it was the nuts"

I would say it resembles Fifa world cup game (the gameplay).

Wow. The gameplay from 2 years ago!...Bonza, what a progression.

The tackling is harder and feels like you have achieved something when defending and the goals are a lot harder to create because the AI is more clever this year.

Harder = better. Possibly. However if the biggest thing they've done in a year is make it harder, I'm not sure that's really worthy of £39.99.

And finally the graphics on which not many reviewers haven't touched that much up on, but they almost resemble PES. The facial detail, player models (physique) and the hair are all fantastic (imo).

Certain player faces are indeed better, yes. But again, only when you zoom in or on replays. From a match playing perspective, nothing looks remotely different. There are hundreds of things they could've done graphically, from the grass, to the crowd, to the lighting to that weird way the names on the shirts seem to be stretched across players backs like tattoos on people who've gotten fat. Better facial detail is the least I'd expect from a new game a year on.

Look, it's a very good game. It's better than 11, and there are some lovely things about it. I'll buy it, but I'm not really impressed with it as any kind of achievement. It's like they're spreading out the work they can do in one year over 3 years just to make some more money. It's lazy, and I'm quite surprised at how easily everyone laps it all up, despite it being - very obviously - not that much different from the one they brought out last year, which in turn, wasn't that much different to the one they brought out the year before, which in turn, wasn't that much different to the one they brought out in the middle of the year specifically for the WC..
