Zlatan Ibrahimovic

We are discussing his peak ffs. During that 'peak' he's moved to PSG - as I've discussed. During the same 'peak' he hasn't exactly lit up the CL, either.

Are you Swedish? If so, this discussion has obviously run its course.

Would you say he has been :too biased" in favor of Zlatan?
:wenger:

I was just looking up at some of the French league's records. In 80 years I can't believe PSG only have 4 titles in their history. Lyon won it 7 times in a row between 2002 and 2008. Saint-Etienne have most with 10.

PSG are only 40 years old or something like that.

I think he ruined his reputation a bit by joining PSG.

Should've joined a bigger club than Milan when he left Barcelona for starters. There's rumoured that there was some clause in his contract when he left Barca he couldn't join Madrid for x amount of years. Could be bull though. Playing in lesser leagues will always haunt him when compared to his peers. He did do very well for Barca initially though, he was on fire for the first half of the season before he was shunned.

They really, really weren't. Those teams might have been strong at some point, but not when the mentioned players were playing.
Some of the teams have been average. But Scotland when Law was playing and Czech Republic when Koller was involved are poor examples in this context. Scotland were one of the stronger teams in Europe during the late 1960s - the league was, in terms of coefficients points, in the top 3-5 in Europe - with the added bonus of a number of strong players starring in the English league. Same story for Czech Republic if we take Euro 2004 as the midpoint of Koller's international career, a tournament they shone brightly in and should have won. In contrast, Sweden haven't been competitive in a long time.

Hoddle was banging on about Aguero being far and away a superior striker to Benzema and Lewandowski earlier and he didn't mention Ibra at all. He'll never be rated by the English press/pundits because he hasn't played here or torn it up against the big boys. The fact he's largely played for inferior teams to the Euro elite will haunt his reputation (over in the UK at least) forever.

We should do a Larsson and smash him on a loan deal in a few years, let him tear Stoke apart and bid him farewell.

I've nothing against French football and PSG, but Zlatan should be plying his trade at a top tier club in England or Spain, even Germany or Italy. But I also lay some blame at Zlatan for his supposed wage demands which may have priced him out of numerous options, except City and PSG. I shudder to think what he and Aguerro would do for City. Wouldn't be fair, assuming they could operate together. Or him with Rooney or RVP.

Italy? Already played for Inter, Milan and Juventus. Nothing left for him there. Don't think that league is any more fun to play in. Juventus have had it cornered for years and only Roma is challenging. There's nothing for him in Spain. He ain't going back to Barca. He's not one for Real. He's not going to join Pep at Bayern. He's far from the fit at Dortmund.

Nothing wrong to join a team that's based in Paris. New league challenge. Opportunity to challenge for the Champions League. All whilst getting a massive wage.

Yep, it's only really England that's left and he's been open about his indifference towards the PL.

The most likely biggest factor in his decision. But hey, go play in the fifth best league in Europe despite being one of the five, ten best players in the world. Fair play to Zlatan.

I don't see what's wrong with that. It's one of the 10 best clubs in Europe. The league is competitive. He's living in Paris. Gets a big wage. There's nothing concrete that says that playing in England is more fun. The only thing he's left to win is the CL. Got as good a chance of winning it with them as he has with an English team.

I reckon the league issue is a moot point. After all, most if not all rightly rate Thiago Silva as the standout defender of his generation. Similarly, is it really that much easier scoring goals in the French league compared to one of the big two in Spain? The French league is notoriously defensive with the average goals-per-game ratio sitting down at around 2.4 as opposed to around 2.8 for the Spanish league. And the huge resource inequalities are largely the reason that Real/Barca score an extra 20-40 league goals a season than the winners in France.

That first goal, scoring and celebrating at the same time

Did you catch the game? I missed it. Saw he scored two goals, but he's just back from an injury so I assume it was while playing bad. Did they mention if they found what his injury problem was and if they have sorted it out?

No, I only watched the goals in retrospect. The second was a scorching freekick. Haven't been up to date with Ibra lately but if I recall correctly it was his heel that was troubling.

Must have been a different injury? I thought it was something with his back but they couldn't find any reasons for the symptoms but maybe I was misremember that completely.

He feels pain under his heel, the doctors say it's something that cannot be seen in any X rays, IRM or whatever. It's something that only Zlatan can feel and it can hurt him very painfully. Their doctors aren't even sure Zlatan could ever be at 100%.

Cheers mate! Sounds really negative, hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.

Could be referred pain from a back injury sustained in the lumbar region. That wouldn't show up on any form of diagnostic procedure, if they don't check the actual site of the painful stimulus.

I really don't have that much info about the details of his injury, just something I heard on the radio when some pundits were talking about his mysterious injury. Yesterday he looked alright.

I'd be annoyed and thrilled to see him in the PL.

Annoyed because he'll be playing for one of our rivals as I can't see us signing him, but thrilled because I'd love to see how he'd handle it.

I'd love Zlatan. Love his swagger.

If we were to buy an older striker I'd rather spend the money and wages on Zlatan than Falcao.

This may be controversial but he may be the closest thing to Cantona in the last decade.

I agree, in the sense that they are each one of the most overrated players of their respective generation.

Wow. I think you've just replaced that NoBrainNoClue fella in regards to the worst post ever. It's laughable that you could even think to call Zlatan overrated. You realise that he's been the catalyst and best performer most every club he's been at and won the league in almost every country he's played in? He's won a championship with 6 different teams in four different countries. 254 goals in 443 Games says you're full of shit.
That's even before we address the absolute cretinous, cuntery in regards to The King. I've mentioned the word catalyst already but never before has it been so apt, than when talking about Eric Cantona. He took a team of also rans and galvanised them into a truly great side. His arrival set in motion a chain of events that turned us into the most dominating team of the premiership era and he helped guide a bunch of promising youngsters in to one of the all time great club sides. The premiership may have seen players with better stats but there's never been a character so big, a player with more natural swagger and charisma and player so important to one clubs success as King Eric. You need to have a fecking word with yourself and sort your life out.

It's unfortunate he might never play in England because I think he would have been a success, in France, he's learned to tone down on his physicality because the refs blow the whistle too easily.

Bit harsh, but well said
