Zlatan Ibrahimovic

WRONG.

Being young and one of the brightest winger talents in the world is a protection against being sold.

feck me, how many more people are going to take this off-topic?

Stands to reason that a club will wait longer before admitting defeat with a young player who cost 17 million quid than they would over a youth product with similar doubts hanging over his head. Selling the former could incur a significant loss, selling the ladder could earn a nice profit. Simple maths really.

But anyway, Ibrahimovic...

Agreed. Just ask atticladders.com.

phwooooaaar, look at them rungs.

So, Ibra? It's not a massive vote of confidence for him to be taken off when he was, is it? Barca don't really have a whole lot of options anyway - Bojan's obviously a different kind of striker, but he's still to realise his full potential really.

I don't get the Ibrahimovic love, I really don't get it. He is a good player, but I really don't and have never thought that he is up there in the top echelons of the game, as some do. I just don't see it.

I agree with Pogue. It's been nice the last few months having a more normal, sane Rubberman around, but I do prefer this demented version I get to argue the toss with for hours on end! I'm just glad he's back smoking whatever it is he smokes...

Subbed off at a crucial time against Inter and dropped for the game tonight against Villareal, has Guardiola lost faith in Zlatan ?

Ibra was involved in the 4th goal tonight but prior to him coming on the trio of Messi/Bojan/Pedro was electric, the pace and the movement as they interchanged positions in that front 3 made them hard to pick up, I thought Bojan's goal in particular was class.

He's done alright.

Scored a few goals, set up another few. Had a couple of shocking games at the end of the season against Inter specially that will be held against him.

All in all a pretty good first season though.

He's now won consecutive league titles in every season since 2003.

Nice.

Shame he was dropped for the title run-in for 19 year old Bojan.

He started pretty well, then when it came to the business end of the season he was dropped from the first team and missed the important matches.

A bit like Berbatov in his first season only he wasnt dropped for a 19 year old kid, he was dropped for Tevez.

I wonder if City buy Ibrahamovich then they'd have to buy Pique too?

I'd luv to see both Adebayor and Ibra playing for the same team. What a mess that'd be.

His confidence is dead or at least it looks like it when he plays. What a poor deal made by Barca

Indeed a poor deal. I like watching Zlatan because he's obviously a very skilful player. But bottom line is he is very often a disappointment and tends to disappear when you actually need him. Eto'o with his clinical finishing skills and his ability to perform on the biggest stage was what they needed. Poor decision from Guardiola.

No, it was Guardiola's decision:

"I think it would be the best for Barcelona if Eto'o does leave and his sale is my decision. I think it's time to change after all that we have won," Guardiola told Sky Sport Italia.

[...]
"Ibrahimovic is a different player to Eto'o and he is world-class too.

"Everything depends on Eto'o. I understand that people are looking for reasons why [he should leave].

"Samuel is a wonderful player and he did so well last year. Samuel has his character, his personality makes him what he is.

"There is not a single major reason for this decision. It is a matter of feeling and sensations. It's just that after winning the so much, we must change the squad, that's all, there are no other reasons.

"It is my responsibility to decide who I want to play and I made that decision. It would have been easier not to take it but I think it's best for the team and for the club. I am grateful to Samuel. He has been fantastic."

Imagine a front three of Adebayor, Ibra and Berbatov. I can just see all three of them walking back when the opposition has started a counter attack or something ridiculous.

I prefer Bojan to Ibra. I prefer anyone who runs to anyone who walks even if the latter is a skillful player.

Something like that happened when it was Ibra and Mido at Ajax. The dressing room was a mess .

Switch of leagues, adaptation time.

He's been better for Barca than Eto'o has for Inter. Make of that what you will.

Now lets see, who's in the champions league final and who was the one that got substituted because he was diabolically shit in a team that needed a big man to step up and be counted for????

Eto'o has played all over the front of the park for Inter. He's been turned in to a work horse, busting his arse to get the results.

I think he has 36 games as a starter, 21 goals and 9 assists for Barcelona this year.

That is a decent return for a first season, whichever way you spin it.

Oh they're good stats, but it doesn't show much when you look at the seasons the two have had. Ones in a CL looking at a trebel whos worked hard all year. The other a league title where he's struggled to show any sort of bottle and is looking at getting shipped off. You tell me who's had the better year??

For the price of Ibrah, that would be the bare minimum you'd expect. I'd still take Eto'o in a heart beat over him.

If you look at their contribution in terms of stats then he's absolutely right.

yes, because football is played on paper.

eto'o has sacrificed his game for the greater good and mourinho's instructions. he's worked like a dog out wide and his team (and him) have reaped the benefits.

mind you, i do like zlatan. but eto'o is a fecking legend.

I'm not taking price into consideration. When you know the things Eto'o was capable of doing before this season it's a shame to see he's become a glorified utility player for Inter.
I am also looking at their individual contribution to their team only, I don't care if Eto'o will win again the treble. When I compare them, I'm just looking at the way both played and that's it.

Eto'o was shifted out wide when he lost his famous goalscoring touch. In the first half of the season he was regularly playing in central roles and for whatever reasons he lost his knack for scoring goals. He is still a great player and has obviously joined the right team to win trophies this season but I doubt that his individual performance will have satisfied him.
At the end of the day it won't matter though who's done individually better than the other. It's the trophies

I haven't mentioned Eto once in this thread. He has nothing to do with Ibra. Eto was always going to leave, and Barcelona brought in Ibra instead. He didn't choose his own transfer fee either.

Problem on here is, that people can't say "He is a striker, good player, had a good season, scored some good goals etc". Instead it's always "He is a flop, Etoo is better" bla bla.

Same with Berbatov actually. It's flop or saviour. Both have had decent seasons.

And neither should you. It's silly.
