Ramadan will probably take it's toll on him at the beginning, but I hope not.

He's not a practicing Muslim, one of his parent is Muslim and the other is Catholic. I think I read somewhere that he said he's Catholic.

if you read his book, his father is a Bosnian Muslim and his mum is a Croatian Catholic, I think he says something along the lines of he hates all the problems caused by religion/ethnic divides in the former Yugoslavia so he has a foot in both camps, or words to that effect, and he is influenced by both backgrounds.
I've read some of his book and it was a good read but in the last 2-3 years it appears he may have reverted to Islam from what i've read.

Back on topic, has he signed yet?

The rare kind of muslim who enjoys boar hunting and boar bbq on his spare time. But if it is important to believe that he is a practicing muslim that's fine. I don't think we need to worry about ramadan.

Some muslims actually take Ramadan seriously even though they drink and eat pork other times of the year.
Don't think it will be an issue though.

Simon stone puts his name on this, just some speculation from him though, nothing concrete.

He's Catholic, don't think he's deeply religious.

Zlatan's utter self-confidence and his desire to prove himself in yet another league, under a manager he respects and likes, with the spectre of Pep looming in the same City... I think we'll get the best out of him. I also think he'll be almost Cantona-esque for this current bunch of players. Cantona took the team to another level with his confidence and style, and I think Zlatan may be able to do the same for some of the guys in the current team - the likes of Memphis, Lingard, Schneiderlin etc.

I remember going to our friendly vs PSG last summer. Zlatan looked literally a man among boys in that game. It was only a friendly but he was the best player on the pitch by a mile. No one even came close. He's built like a horse and I don't care whether he's 35 or 45, his age doesn't worry me at the slightest. He will be a huge addition to our team.

I don't mind the Zlatan signing if it comes. But I would have preferred Lukaku in the long term.

I never ever said, I didnt want him here. All I ever said was, using French Ligue stats to justify a players quality is not a good argument.

If you assess the level of a player, then you have to use both:

- Qualitative criteria: style of play, personality...
- Quantitative elements: statistics...

I think he is in the form of his life at the moment, he is a player who has improved with age, but obviously it won't last forever, but if United can get him in now for a season or two, I think he could have a huge influence on the team, Mourinho will get the best out of him hopefully if it happens.

How much increase in revenue would a player like Zlatan bring?

I must be honest maybe five or six years ago I thought he was massively overrated but since I've seen how amazing he is.

Like Di Maria he'll probably easily sell the most shirts in the country.

I think it's worth a punt. People suggesting he will be like ADM or Falcao have to remember one didn't want to be here and the other came back from a career threatening injury.

I think a fit and motivated Ibrahimovic would be a force to be reckoned with.

Yep. Di Maria was never going to do well in a van Gaal system. Easier with hindsight I know, but it's easy to see why it failed. Falcao didn't exactly have great numbers in the French league either for what it's worth.

I know it is a cliche but I genuinely think that we will more than recoup the wage outlay by shirt sales. Considering that we get the profit from shirt sales from our deal with Adidas.

Say Zlatan will rake in about £20m over two seasons with us, that is only 222222 shirts at £90 each. And he will sell faaar more than that.

Well he'll win the Champions League with us in his 2nd (and final) year here, so I'd say the increase would be significant ;)

You're getting ripped off mate.

I know, I just took the "previous price" in the club shop from the internets :)

But you'd have to say that even at half that price and 444444 shirts needed to be sold we will do that, and far more.

No argument is worse than the shirt sales argument.

If Zlatan makes good, it'll be because he bangs in a bunch of goals, lifts you back into the CL places and maybe title contention, and helps grow the value of the club in a broader sense, not because he sells a few shirts.

I'm not 100% sure how it all works, but I don't think we see much of that, if anything. I thought Adidas took most of the money from shirt sales.

I thought it was the previous deal that left the sponsor with all the income from the shirt sales, and that what makes our new one with Adidas unique is that we keep the profit from shirt sales.

I am almost certain I read that in the thread regarding Chelsea booting Adidas \ Adidas booting Chelsea.

Shirt sales are bollocks. Those people that buy a shirt, would buy a shirt if he wasn't coming.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it really works like that in reality.

For example, last year we sold just under 3 million shirts. For him to have a significant impact on shirt sale revenue, that would have to be an additional 444444 people purchasing an Ibrahimovic shirt who were not already going to purchase a United shirt anyway.

I think it will have some impact, but not as much as you're probably expecting.

Well if they're paying £90 to even put our shirt on then maybe we will make up some money from sales!
I know I know....
ffs, had a link and everything then.
