I find it odd that people think Ibrahimovic is a Mourinho-type player.

I know they have a really good personal relationship but has Mourinho ever chosen to work with a slow, lazy, flashy-type centre-forward in his system before?

Yes. Zlatan! Plus he's not lazy.

How did Mourinho make use of him at Inter?

They used to play in a 4-4-2 system : Ibra + Balotelli (or Adriano)

Exactly, it's a winner all around. And, if it doesn't work out from a footballing perspective, it's only a 1 year contract anyway.

Feels like there's some sort of understanding and e-connection between the two of us. I posted a reply on another post you made and then checked my alerts just to see we had another discussion going on in another thread. Cheers.

Usually, as a striker in the front 2 of a diamond, as @Downcast has illustrated in his post.

In terms of their year together, Zlatan was Serie A top scorer and Serie A footballer of the Year under José, aside from being 7th in the 2009 Ballon D'Or, and being named in the 2009 European team of Year. Not too shabby, all things considered. He then joined Barcelona for an exchange deal involving Samuel Eto'o (one of the best all-round forwards in Europe) for a transfer fee of ~€70 million (3rd highest at that time - behind Cristiano to Madrid, and Zidane to Madrid - surpassing Kaká). Internazionale would have been mental to turn Barcelona's massive offer down (they were running on losses, and Zlatan's sale helped boost their 'warchest' - which led to the treble in 2010):

Their cumulative losses over a ~3 year time-frame exceeded €500 million.

Good post.

Interesting to note that Inter Milan had to sack Mancini and his staff: around €30m compensation package paid in 2009

Any word on Maxwell yet? He's often an indicator to where Ibra is going.

End of contract this year. Extra-community player.

PSG wants to renew his contract (but Kurzawa 22y is likely to be part of the starting 11 next year) but nothing is done.

Those first two goals are great. His ability to snap the shot away a few moments before anyone expects it catches so many people off guard. It's a skill that compensates for any lack of pace, since he is able to finish quickly after the first touch and he has the technique to get both power and accuracy in his shots without having to adjust his body shape beforehand. It buys him so much time in the box and makes him very difficult to read for keepers. His movement off the ball is absolutely sublime too.

A player with his instincts and technique will do fine here, regardless of his relatively advanced age. I'm all for this signing. If he lacks pace, that's the only thing he lacks. Every other aspect of his game is world class, and his ability to twist his body to get on the end of even a poor cross and still beat the keeper is the best I've seen since van Basten, maybe even ever.

Remember that goal against St Etienne lol (middle of video). Talk about being at the right place at the right time.

Jesus I'd love to support him as a player of ours for just one season at least. What a joy and a character to have in your team.

IF he's fit and Mourinho is manager, he'll trounce this league sideways. I can see Mourinho getting the right support cast around him by way of 1 or two transfers and Ibra scoring for fun.

I love how he celebrates. With his teammates - praising the assister. Not like CR7 - "it's all me, baby"-shit.

Following this thread, and generally paying more attention to Ibra given the recent rumours, I've been really surprised at how much of a team player he actually is. Maybe it was his persona and the way he talks about himself/how the press portray him but this aspect of his superstardom would probably be most beneficial to our squad of developing talent. Can you imagine how much Martial and Rashford would enjoy/learn from being in the same 11 as him? What's more, I think Ibra would really enjoy being a pivotal part of these players' development.

Really hope this happens.

He might want to play for Mourinho again so badly that he consider giving up CL football for a season. Fantastic if true.

Oh how noble of him that would be.

He hasn't been seriously linked to anyone playing in the CL. So it's quite likely there are very few if any top sides who are in the CL next year who actually want him. Or would pay the wages he's demanding.

Any moment now PSG will be li... Oh wait. We really don't have any serious competition, can we just announce him please

I wasn't keen on this idea originally but given Rashford's development I now see him as the perfect option. In fact if Woody hasn't announced Ibra, Jose and Pogba by Monday lunchtime I'm going to have a meltdown.

We have already discussed rumours, tactical considerations, stats, quotes, style of play, age, wages...

Let's be serious and talk about shirts :wenger:

He'd be exciting, and "Free" with just the huge wages.

Time will tell whether he's an inspired signing, or a Falcao.

Yeah i wonder why.
Tell me which European elite club needs a top class striker right now? Barca? Real? Bayern? No. Atletico could use him but can't afford his wages. Same with Arsenal (more like unwilling to pay because they're cheap). Chelsea have Costa, City have Aguero, Dortmund have Auba. Wages too high for Serie A clubs and he has already played there with 3 different top teams. That leaves who...?

I don't expect a 30goal season but surely better than Falcao. He's not coming back from a major injury to find that he's lost his scoring touch and is certainly strong enough not to tumble over the ball after every 2 touches.

Did he always play like a false 9 and should we expect the same if we signed him?
That's the player he has evolved in to so, yeah. He would drop deep and playmake, bringing the team mates with him to attack together. One-twos, throughballs etc. Arrives in the box late. We'd need a CM that likes to charge forward, like Herrera. Zlatan and Martial would have much fun. Just need to get a RW as well.

Since when do the biggest clubs buy with such pragmatism? We had Rooney and still bought RVP. Real Madrid buy anyone they like, who they've already got is of little importance. City have Aguero and still spent £25million on Bony!

If a world class player becomes available the top teams are interested. I had this debate the other day about him joining PSG . Aparently nobody needed a top striker then and here we are again.

Thanks.

Yeah a player like Matuidi making runs is needed, i guess Ander could do it.
