Has such a big player coming off his greatest ever season had such a stinker at a tournament at a time when it really mattered?

Typical from Zlatan I suppose.

To be fair, he was surrounded by utter shite in that Sweden team and their coach's idiotic hoofball tactics didn't help either.

Four of them came in his first tournament. Since then Rooney has done feck all despite playing in a better team was my point.

He only played in Euro 2012 after 04 and scored 1 goal in 2 matches. He was banned for the first two games and scored the winner against the host nation Ukraine that ensured we progressed from the group stages.

In this tournament he has played deeper and many considered him to be our best player in the two full games he played, Peter Shilton for one.

I wonder what the reaction to Zlatan would be if he had scored the winner to see Sweden progress last night?

I think it's a fair bit stronger than Ligue 1.

Funnily enough, the players don't think that there is a fair bit between the leagues at least not between the Ligue 1, La liga, Serie A and Bundesliga. They think that the league are different but not easier, it's a fan thing to create a big gap between the leagues.

Yeah I've already put some bets on with people here. I reckon taking out penos he will get around 6/7
6-7 goals without counting penalties throughout the whole season? If that's the case how much are you betting? Mind having a $100 bet with me?

Players say a lot of nonsense, to be honest. You don't come to a new country, bang in goals and put your success down to your opposition being crap. Nor do you come to one, struggle, and make yourself sound like you're not up to it by saying 'it's bloody hard here!'. You talk about 'adapting' because that's a nice neutral sentiment.

I don't think for a moment that PSG would win any of those leagues by anywhere near the margin they just won Ligue 1 by.

What is this crap?

Taking bets on his penalties?! He hasn't even signed! Don't even be surprised if the "leaving" thing turns out to be a play to get a last day bumper new deal at PSG

Do I think it will actually happen? Then no

But it's silly having bets on how many penalties he'll score at United when he's not a United player. Unless you know something I don't, he can still sign for any club he wants
It does feel like an open secret now though, kinda like Mourinho.

These "typical" zlatan comments are so funny, he's scored in big games, he's scored winners in el classico he's scored winners in the Milan derby he's scored for Sweden when they needed a goal in previous euros (Italy comes to mind 2004) he's won the league every season since 2004 at which ever club he has been at! That's ridiculous!
I'd understand him being carried at one club but 4 or 5 different teams? No way.
He has been included in uefa team of the year often he's won man of the match awards at the last 3 euros, I'm not going to bother writing how many times he's won player of the league because I'd be here awhile.
Hes won most assists and motm in cup finals.

I'm going to stop there because I really could go on, but because he plays for a shite Swedish team we should forget all that anyway!
Forget that often there is too much hype on players going into big international tournaments and how difficult they are especially at the end of the season when players are exhausted.

If we sign him and he helps us to the league title but "doesn't turn up" in 3 games I'll not give a craps to be honest

It's been agreed for weeks. Fair enough if you are a bit nervous and don't want to get your hopes up, but it's going to happen.

He's definitely not going back to PSG that's for sure

Yeah, Lukaku is terrible but Kane is just tired right? Lukaku plays for a team full of stars that doesn't play well as a team. Why is he getting so much more stick than Kane who has been worse than Bebe?
Lukaku looks like he's in great form - he just lacks the natural aura. He's like the opposite of Van Nistelrooy - strong as a bull, but no fox-in-the-box.

Personally I can't wait to see him running out in a United shirt. It's going to be great.

PSG aren't the league, the rest of the teams are. The difference between the Ligue 1 and other leagues is that the gap between the best and worst is close because the talents aren't concentrated at the top. But the middle and bottom half clubs are as good as their foreign equivalent, that's why the league isn't easier.

But it is easier if you don't have to play 4-5 other pretty good teams 8-10 times in a campaign.

Unless middle and bottom clubs are actually better than their equivalents in other leagues. I'd have to take your word on that one, if so.

How far did these lesser clubs get in European competition? The 4th best English team reached the semi finals of the CL and the 8th best the final of the EL.

The most surprising thing about this thread is that people are surprised that Zlatan has performed poorly on the highest stage versus organised teams.

It's been the case for years.

Still think we should sign him though. He should be able to rack up the goals against the weaker teams in the league.

I would say that it's comparable to the Bundesliga without Bayern or with PSG being our Bayern. And like I said initially while there is a gap, it's not a huge one.

Not penalties, but the amount of goals he scored without penalties.

And I know you don't follow other leagues since you said you have never heard of Mkhitaryan, but Zlatan's contract with PSG had already expired and he had left the club, with a farewell.

In France the best players are almost always new to Europe, so the french teams will always be weak in it.

Do you promise to leave the Caf if he scores more than 15 excluding penalties?

Obviously not.

To those lads who want a bet. I'm fecking skint and not betting any substantial sums of money. Already got 15.00 on it. Will do someone a fiver if they want.

One thing Zlatan got that we have been lacking imo is the ability to win the ball on long balls and hold it/deliver it to a team mate. I think he did great last night. Unlucky to not get his goal as well.

So you don't doubt that he can score nearly triple your prediction?

Come on, just face it, beyond PSG the French league is weak compared to the PL, La Liga and the Bundesliga.

There is nothing to face, you are only looking at the top of the league, I watch the entire league.

He left PSG after being offered an extension, and had a massive goodbye, but you think he might sign an extension? what?

Any bets offered are obvsiouly solely on the basis that he signs... thought that much was pretty obvious @LawCharltonBest

I've had enough of him already and he's not signed, feck him off. We just about got rid of an egotistical fool in LVG.

Bit harsh for a guy playing for a shit nation that has scored against France, Spain and Italy in previous Euros, Germany in the WC Qualifiers, scored 2 against Portugal in the WC play off.

At club level he has scored in the El Classico, big Milan derbies, against Arsenal, Chelsea in the CL. Is also one of only 14 players who have 50 or more goals in UEFA club competition.
