How has Ibra's general play been like this season? I know he's got an insane scoring record for PSG but the last thing we need is for both Schweinsteiger and Ibra to join Falcao as old stars signed from other leagues failing with us.

Still top class, joint top in league assists with 11 with ADM but with 27 Goals.

I can't be the only one who thinks this potential signing would end as a train wreck. Last time we signed a player like Ibra? Berbatov.
He's not very mobile, he won't have anywhere near as much space to play in and he'll be subject to much heavier tackles if he dallies.

Umm, Ibra is a lot more athletic than Berbatov ever was and he's a much better player than Berbatov ever was. How is Ibra not that mobile? And he has an actual physical presence out there, being 6'5" and someone who doesn't mind physical play.

36 goals, 14 assist in 39 appearances this season for Zlatan. Those are ridiculous numbers and we would be insane to turn him down on a free transfer. Also Berbatov was our record signing at the time, and while he can be reasonably called a flop during his time here, he was in no way a "trainwreck".

He's not lost a whole lot of it either. He likes giving tackles quite a bit as well. Sure you've ever watched him play?

Edit: I know the difference between mobility and flexibility but he's not exactly static. He comes deep to playmake all the time.

Zlatan will be still able to play at a high level until his late 30s I'd imagine. I don't see him dropping off at all.

I think he would flop too. He has spent almost his entire career playing for dominant teams in weak leagues (except one season in la liga where he didn't come close to justifying his price tag and was quickly moved on). At his advanced age I don't see him adapting at all to a faster league, especially not at a team which already has too many slow players and isn't as relatively strong as the teams he is used to playing for.

I really doubt we will go for him anyway though so it's all moot.

He's not very mobile? Have you seen him this season. Rooney can only wish for Ibra's current mobility. Besides, he's technical ability makes up for whatever mobility he has lost over the years. Not the same obviously but still a very good player.

Ibra would be a fantastic signing. He is one of the top striker this season and he will be free.

In 1 or 2 years, we can go for Kane or Lukaku to partner Martial.

The idea that Ibra would flop next year is bizarre. He's slowed down a bit but his first touch is incredible and he's very strong. He'd probably act like a dick and I'm not sure we could defend well enough with him as a 10 so I think it would mean one of Memphis or Martial playing wide, but if he's out there and we've found someone to take Rooney off our hands it would be a solid idea.

Martial and Memphis would get enough starts with the LW position open only for them, as well as rests/injuries/suspensions for Ibra as the 9 and who knows how the RW we sign will fit in. Might be some starts there too.

I think it's a no brainer tbh. He's a class player and still not showing any sign of regression (has a lot to do with his style of play). We have many good young talents at the moment so it make sense to having someone like him around so that the young players can both learn from him and challenge for his place, knowing he's not gonna last very long. He's a strong character as well which we're lack of atm and he doesn't have a lot of fitness problem does he? I would go to next season with him,Martial,Rashford,Wilson as striking options with Martial playing a lot on the left of course.

The age thing doesn't really apply to him. He's a bit like Ronaldo and Robben in that he just defies age. He's that good, you just have to assume age isn't slowing him at the same rate it does the mere mortals.

Ibra would add identity and character, which we are clearly lacking.
Shrek just doesn't cut it.

UNITED CLOSE IN ON ZLATAN DEAL

Manchester United have reportedly met with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s representatives as they close in on a sensational summer move for the Swede.

According to the Daily Star, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward hopes to tempt Ibrahimovic with a two-year deal worth a staggering £250,000-a-week – worth £24million to the player.

The 34-year-old will be a free agent in June after failing to agree a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain, where he has won four straight league titles.

Ibrahimovic is also a target of Arsenal and Chelsea, but United are willing to blow them out of the water and flex their financial muscle.

The deal on offer would make Ibrahimovic one of the highest-paid stars in English football.

A club source reportedly told the paper: “The team needs a major injection of talent and some superstar additions.

“Zlatan fits the bill. He might be getting on a bit but he can still do it at the highest level and would be worth the risk in terms of big wages because no fee is involved.”

The paper also suggests the news gives another ‘strong indication’ that Louis van Gaal is heading for the Old Trafford exit at the end of this season.

Van Gaal has clung to his job for months, despite overseeing another disappointing campaign at the helm.

But Van Gaal and Ibrahimovic have a mutual dislike for each other after falling out during their time together at Ajax in 2004.

It would be a brilliant move to bring in Ibra, but surely it would mean the end of Rooney. (Which has to happen.)

I'm fully on board with those that say we shouldn't sign him.

But those of you claiming he's not mobile or not agile enough/lacking in pace - seriously? The guy's fecking rapid for a 34 year old. He'll beat most CBs in the league for pace, plus he reads the game much faster than them.

Pace wouldn't be the issue. Hunger might be.

Its Zlatan and he always wants to win..

I don't see hunger being an issue. He's a unique personality, he'll have that absolute determination to show himself in the worlds biggest stage. Which is basically what the Premier League has become.

Didn't help him at Barca. He didn't want to win enough to toe the party line and work for the team.
He had problems with Pep and Pep didn't want him from the get go.. As soon as he was off to italy he was banging them in again and winning.

The league will be wide open next season. Leicester will be picked apart. City, Chelsea, Arsenal (possibly) and United (hopefully) will have new managers. Spurs would potentially be the most ready on the first day of the season but I don't think they would have the depth in quality to run away with the league.

A player like Ibrahimovic could be the difference. United have been so predictable in attack and so toothless in front of goal that every team fancy their chances against us. Ibrahimovic would bring an unpredictability about our attack, long range shooting with power or taking on players and scoring from short range. No time for defences to set themselves while united pass the ball across the pitch.

Its akin to SAF buying RVP, its a short term fix for glory but right now a league win would shake off the malaise we have been in.

Even at £250,000 a week that's only 13 million for the year so not a huge outlay and I'm sure Ibrahimovic 7 (sorry Memphis but do the decent thing like Valencia did) would recoup a sizeable chunk of that money in the megastore.

I'm all for Ibra on a free, finally a beast of a centre forward who would give defenders a nightmare whilst also having the arrogance to prance around OT like he owns it. Obviously the wages are high but hopefully Jose comes in and offloads some decent earners like Young, Fellaini and a few others which would help balance the books. I think even with sales we'll need to spend about 120m to get us back challenging, if we could get someone like Laporte, Mahrez, Sanches and Zlatan I'd fancy our chances next season.

edit: Feck just watched his injury.

On and outside the pitch, he will make you better and bring confidence. A one-year contract makes sense with a possible extension of one year.

He is very expensive (in terms of salary package) but from a marketing perspective, he will generate money and contribute to the value of the brand MUFC.

Signing fecking Ibrahimovic on a fecking free transfer, no matter how hard it could go tits up, is about as good a value for money signing as I can imagine.

If we get Mourinho along with him and a few other astute signings in areas we need, i see no reason we couldn't keep up his impressive league winning record.

Hasn't it been reported from Italy (hello, Signore Raiola) that he got an offer from a Chinese club with an annual (!) salary of about €75m? Not bad for a 34 year old.

Probably just to light the fire under Woody's arse. He even went all Dr Evil with the figure.

"Oh yeah? Well China are offering...75 million!"

That's why I referred to Ibra's agent. It's no coincidence than an Italian source (Republica IIRC) spread this offer.

OTOH, the obsession of China's president with football is so sick that I tend to believe that there's some truth to it. Perhaps not 75m but 30+m. That's insane money for one (!) season of football.

Would be amazing if he performs like Henrik Larsson did for us and even more amazing if as a sub player we won him a CL by his second season. Under Mou and loads of money that could easily happen.
