I can't imagine people who are against this signing has seen Zlatan play much over the years. Signing Zlatan will make us title favourites for me. This is a player who will be a huge huge success here i'm sure. Would be the best player in the Premier League.

The season before he joined us Falcao scored 9 goals, 0 assists in 17 games in the "poor" French league. Zlatan scored 38 goals, 13 assists in 31 games.

The most important part is that Falcao with Kondogbia were probably their worst players in the first part of the season, Monaco were flying and Falcao somehow statiscally benefitted from it. But I have to admit, I thought that he would be a great signing.

Falcao had scored almost 20 goals the previous season after the injury.

He had scored 2 goals in the season we signed him. I.e For the month of August until moving to us.
No. In 2013/14 he scored 9 goals/0 assist in 17 games in Ligue 1.

Yeah. I seem to remember Falcao just scored a few goals and didn't bring anything else to the team. Zlatan is a totally different player. To compare them like people do here is just pathetic.

Why the Falcao comparisons, why.... You guys are just spitting numbers when the truth is staring you right in the face - Falcao was ruined by a severe injury, not by age!

I really, really don't know what people expect us, as a 5th placed club with no CL football next season, to be able to acquire in the striker market.

If not for Mourinho, Ibrahimovic wouldn't even be giving us a second glance under the conditions we're facing next season, so why, or how can people be looking down on this transfer, seriously?

The people that don't want Ibrahimovic: who do you think we could get in of his standing this summer?

No. In 2013/14 he scored 9 goals/0 assist in 17 games in Ligue 1.

He was probably depressed to play in an empty small stadium.

Then, in January 2014: severe injury and out for 7 months. There is a pre-injury Falcao and a post-injury Falcao. Not the same player.

Amazing no one's mentioned the size of his nose. People are pretending it's not a factor in the hope that it will just go away or something.

Yes, as has been pointed out many times since my post.

But as I said above, just change my post to "Falcao scored 9 in 17 in the league with 0 assists and then injured his ACL which put paid to him as a footballer, Zlatan in comparison has just scored 38 in 31 in the league, with 13 assists and is in the best shape imaginable."

It has been more than "mentioned".

And don't forget the assists with Falcao 0 assists and Zlatan 13 as well as scoring 38(!) goals in 31 games in the league! In all competitions Zlatan 50+19 in 51.

Can someone explain to me why Zlatan is potentially a bad signing because Falcao was a flop? Last time I checked they were not the same person. I mean I don't see anyone saying that Martial will be shit next season because Hazard went from being Chelsea's best player to doing nothing this year..

What another player did or didn't do is so irrelevant that I'm having problems finding the words to describe it.

No, they cannot

"Logical fallacy" or "Utter bullshit". Hope that helps.

This.

I also find it strange that people are trying to belittle what Zlatan has achieved in Ligue 1, especially after what Mahrez and Payet did after coming to England from France.

Zlatan has been a success everywhere he has played. It would be shocking if a man of his size, strength, skill and shooting ability failed to set the Premier League alight.

There are so many reasons why signing Zlatan makes sense for Manchester United. The quicker the deal is done the better!

Really hope I am wrong but I have doubts about the impact he will have on the pitch , he will be 35 years of age moving to a much more physical league and will have huge expectations on him , I know it is not popular to say but I also think he is a bit overrated, a good player but not the great he and others think he is.

Having said that can't wait to see him in the flesh to see if I have misjudged him.

I hope I am as wrong on this as I was on Falcao who I thought would make a huge impact here when he came.

Of all the possible concerns, that would be the smallest of them. He's a monster.

Arguably, the English league isn't a much more physical league than the French league

Yup, read those stats wrong again... tough morning :)

9 league goals in 17 games for Monaco wasn't great though for a player like him in that league, and it was followed by an ACL injury that basically put an end to him. Zlatan has just scored 31 league goals in 30 games and is in better shape than ever.

The whole comparison with buying a guy in perfect physical shape who has just scored a career high 50 goals is a silly one.
Lets also not forgot that the team Falcao played in is no where near the quality Ibra had at PSG

It was a very good team and in terms of performances they were pretty close.

Not near? PSG had 89 points while Monaco had 80 points that season. Zlatan's stats was 26+15 in 33 games. You should try again but no point because all the stats tell Zlatan is so much better.

Spot on.

So far I've heard from opposition fans that he will have similar difficulties to Falcao because he was also a high profile striker from the French league, Schweinsteiger because he also was our manager's favourite from a previous club, Di Maria cause he also had his best career season before moving to United. And all 3 cause they were all big names as well.

Strange that there are obvious conflicts that go unmentioned like Schweinsteiger and Falcao joining after injury hit seasons or Martial joining from the French league and tearing it up straight away. Those positive "comparisons" are equally useless but you don't see people who place stock in such shit bring those ones out.

I completely get what you mean about it being hard to put into words how irrelevant it is considering they're different fecking human beings.

He'll be fantastic player to be around the likes of Martial, Memphis and Rashford. I'm not overly bothered about his age or what he'll contribute on the pitch. Just take examples of managers. They do not contribute on the pitch but their intelligence, characters and mentality make their teams succeed. I personally think Zlatan's contribution will go far beyond what he achieves on the pitch.

I'm not personally concerned about his age or if he'll score 20+ goals. His experience, character, leadership, and winning mentality should provide a great platform for the team and youngsters to move to another level.
I agree with this of course but you still need him to bang in 20+ goals if he's our main striker and we want to win the league. It's naive to think that he will be influential if he's out of form and not scoring goals. How can teammates listen to what he is saying when he's not doing it himself.

Anthony Martial in his last season at Monaco: 9 goals in 35 games.

Nuts has no clue.
You really think Zlatan will continue at anything like that rate? You can't compare Martial and Zlatan, they're at opposite ends of their careers.

Why not? Zlatan has just had his best season ever. Why can't he continue like that, because he's 39?

Zlatan and Mourinho will win us the league next season.

Zlatan will decline at some point but he hasn't shown any signs that it would happen soon. The french league isn't good for old and declining players, it's a physical league better suited to young players, so Zlatan is an anomaly.
