Oh it'll be fine for sure but it's definitely one of the more tricky conflicts, Zlatan has a huge deal with Volvo and our main sponsor is Chevrolet. It'll take some ironing out I reckon.

There's probably some legal clause clubs use to get out of it. You see it all the time with players. Ronaldo has a deal with Nike, but Adidas make Madrid's kit. There's countless examples of conflicts, the only one i ever remember being an issue was when the German team manager told Jens Lehmann he wouldn't get picked if he carried on wearing a brand of gloves different to their kit manufacturer.

There's not a single mention of this on the guardian or daily mail sport sections

Usually I'd be sceptical about signing a player over 30 but Zlatan is world class even now at 34. A one year contract is a great deal as well, if he does flop then he's gone next summer anyway.

I'll always be sceptical about a 30+ YO player coming into a new league - especially one as competitive as ours. But lets hope this ends up being a Larsson rather than a Falcao

You were on the button with Falcao when he signed for us so I'll listen to your opinion on Ibrahimovic...

Honest thoughts?

He'll do well. He's in good shape, can't really lose his pace and his confidence will never be an issue.

Fans will argue about how much his wages are for the whole season, despite not having a clue.

Too many unknown variables atm to decide if this will be a good transfer or not. He certainly wasn't my first choice but there are logical reasons to signing him.

He's far better than Larsson ever was and his situation is not remotely similar to Falcao.

It is impossible to predict if any transfer will be good or not. Just relax and look forward to a top-10 striker playing for us next season.

Like many others I'm going full muppet here and excited about this potential signing! Not going to let Falcao put me off as this is a very different situation (not coming off a massive injury). Think he will contribute a lot here both in terms of his play and also his leadership/mentality and be a fan favourite due to his antics.

Really hope I am wrong but I have doubts about the impact he will have on the pitch , he will be 35 years of age moving to a much more physical league and will have huge expectations on him , I know it is not popular to say but I also think he is a bit overrated, a good player but not the great he and others think he is.

Having said that can't wait to see him in the flesh to see if I have misjudged him.

I hope I am as wrong on this as I was on Falcao who I thought would make a huge impact here when he came.

I don't expect him to be EPL top goalscorer but having his personality and drive to lift the dressing room will be more than worth it for this signing. Like Cantona, he is a character that will come in and own the fecking place.

Yeah I'd agree with all that. I think he'll be a Van Persie like signing. A huge foot up towards the title followed by an eventual decline (he'll sign for another year or next summer) with fans proclaiming "wages too high, this is what you get for signing 39 year olds".

More so than most here imo. His age, new league, team in very different circumstances than what he is used to. Plus all the factors at United, how will Mourinho do, our tactics next season, what will he do with Rooney etc. Hard to make even an educated guess at how successful this signing will be. That's why him being free and on a short term contract is probably what I like best about the deal, big upside with minimal risk.

Of all the possible concerns, that would be the smallest of them. He's a monster.

It could be a great signing, who knows, but? I don't want united to not only start collecting a few 30 year olds, but playing them at the same time. When fit, I hope mourinho does not start playing carrick, bastian, rooney and zlaten at the same time, that is my only worry. I still don't think we should even think of playing both rooney and zlaten together, which is why Mourinho has to start making decisions on rooney. The zlaten signing does not worry me, its just the other ageing players we currently have worry me I would not want Mourinho to play them together, which could very much be the case

Baffling that 148 people think we should not sign this man. No transfer fee guys, it's win win.

What anyone think doesn't matter against a manager that won in four different countries. If he thinks playing all of them is the way to go, so be it, if he decides only one can play at a time, so be it.

I agree with that, but the fact that he has won the league title in every single team he has played for in his career makes it difficult to suggest he will not succeed here.

And we will probably learn the hard way we aint challenging, no legs in the team its asking allot

Still doesn't address a single problem we have in the squad. Possibly made us even more one dimensional.

Good signing otherwise, even it's just to stop Arsenal getting their hands on him. He's always come across a bit of a prat though, so he better tone down his arrogance unless he can back it up with performances.

I think people need to realise what sort of play Ibra is. He isn't coming to the premier league to be a 10-15 goal a season striker. He is going to walk in here and expect to finish as top scorer. He won't want to be just another piece of the team he will want to be the star. Scoring 10-15 goals next season doesn't really enhance his reputation whereas if he strolls in and knocks in 35 in all competitions then he has elevated himself to the next level. 34 and still one of the best players on the planet.

Some people need to seriously have a think about themselves if they aren't getting excited over this signing. I can't see a single reason to not be excited by this signing and what it could mean for the rest of our dealings this window.

I'll leave a little YouTube clip here to demonstrate why age doesn't matter for players like Zlatan!

Not sure about that because our centreforwards last season were
Rooney... Apparently a midfielder now
Martial... Apparently a winger now
Rashford... A talented kid but still a kid

So zlatan would certainly improve our striking options which I think were a little thin last season

Still a right winger would be a nice addition as well

Highly doubtful since we are managed by Mourinho now.
Im guessing you didnt actually hear or read the Zlatan announcement. Just caught the he headline.

The refusing Vardy so Rashford will play more bit. As thats why we didn't(wont) buy a second striker.

Jose has to get top four next season. Zlatan is a great signing in terms of his goal scoring which we have been sincerely lacking. It's a short term booking for the minimum of targets. Personally I think this one will work.

@sun_tzu

Martial could be viewed as a 'wing-forward' and not as a typical 'winger' (like Giggs).

Nice post. I think it really boils down to people not knowing anything about Zlatan, just giving their "expert" opinion based on his age and his dickish personality. If you have seen him throughout his career, fine, but I would be surprised if anyone who has followed him would be against signing him here and now. He is in prime form.

I absolutely love Ibra. My favourite ever United player was Cantona, because of his class, his flair, his attitude, his arrogance and his ability to inspire a team. Ibra is the closest thing to this in the modern game.

I have concerns over his age of course, I wish, as I did when we got Van Der Sar, that we'd got him years ago. But look how Edwin worked out for us, and if anyone can feast the odds and make you forget his age, it'd be Zlatan.

Think of it this way: if we get him for free, we get a truly top class striker with money to spare for more players, and if he was 24, rather than 34, in today's market he'd cost us over £100m.
