I don't care how good this player is (FWIW I think he's overrated, going by some posters here you'd think he's in Messi/Ronaldo's level when he's obviously not).

He is so self centred its fecking annoying. Cantona had an arrogance to him too but always put the club at heart and 1st on the his agenda. Same with Keane and any other big personality who played for Manchester United.

Zlatan will make things about himself, and this presser and disrespectful wordings such as "It will happen when I press the button" piss me right off. There are many many good strikers out there, who are younger and can be expected to score 20 odd goals a season. We can make him an offer and he can accept/reject. There is no need to further analyse anything tbh.

If he accepts, great, if not then we move on to other targets. He can be replaced.

He's really milking it. His ego is big but him and his ego don't come close to how big United is. He needs to remind himself that playing for United will be doing him and his image the world of good publicity wise. His commercial value will instantly double. Its us that will be doing him the favour.

He's trying Cantonaesque comments.

Basically saying, I am the only one who knows what I am doing yet you journalists keep writing stories as if you have sources.

Completely calling them out on their bullshit. Keep making up stories, I'll let you know the truth when I want to.

I hope he has another press conference this evening and mostly discusses what he's having for dinner, with a quick sideline in which Xbox game he'll play after it.

You would expect a man of his stature to have standards.

If it were United, it wouldn't be up to Zlatan to "tell you where i'll go" United would announce it their own way. And I doubt Mourinho would sit on his hands letting Zlatan play silly shites. He'd want him in asap.

So it's probably a club willing to let him do this sort of thing. Probably a Chinese team.

Don't think he'll be coming, fortunately. Too much of a gamble and Mourinho needs sure fire signings as he needs to win right from the start to keep up with City.

Fecking drama queens in here. Zlatan has had his own press conferences with the national team since forever. Standard procedure. He's kind of a known player in the world, eh? So, you guys need to realize that this is the best player Sweden has ever had and probably will ever have. Of course there is massive interest around him in Sweden.

It was good that he called an extra one to put an end to the Malmö rumours. It had to be done.

Sick of seeing this. How on earth is it a gamble? He's one of the top 5 strikers in the world, on a free transfer.

I don't feel it's too much of a gamble. How much more proven can you get? We have a lot of youth coming through now and Zlatans experience, confidence and winning mentality would be invaluable.

He has just released a clothing line I believe. He will want all the column inches he can and after that, a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world will keep his name in the press more than ever. My take on it, anyway.

Don't read it then.

He's a gamble because of his age and that fact he's never played in the PL. It's too easy to underestimate how hard it is to adjust to the league and at very nearly 35 he's left it too late.

How on earth is signing a 35 year old with no PL experience not in some part a gamble? Of course it is.

So you don't think it would be extremely unprofessional of him to announce a club before signing any deal, then?

A lot of people in here are creating a storm to satisfy their own patience, or lack thereof.
I'd say it'd be a damn sight more unprofessional to decide who he's going to sign for, then subsequently negotiate a contract.

Not much money in that I wouldn't have thought - not when any old length of plastic or string will do just as well. Or are there some expensive, high-tech pegs to go with it?

Completely agree, people calling him out for being an attention whore, when all he did was putting an end to the rumours flying around that he would quit the NT and join Malmö again.

But, of course, if you're not from Sweden than you won't know that Zlatan always done these press conferences.

How is that unprofessional? What would you expect him to do, negotiate a contract before deciding who to sign with?

How would that even work? Negotiate with every team making offers and then decide which is best? Surely that would be the unprofessional route?

You're surely not saying he'd decide who to sign for, then negotiate terms? He'd look a bit stupid if the terms weren't satisfactory and he had to turn round and say he was no longer signing!

Couldn't disagree more. We need a striker who's going to spearhead the attack and there's no one gettable more "sure fire" than Zlatan in that regard. He's in the form of his life, already been successful under Mourinho and will be extremely motivated.

Out of interest who would you prefer to sign as a striker?

It's not a gamble at all, what a weird thing to say.

It is though, signing any player is a gamble the risk increases the older the player is and doubly so if they have never played in England before, theres no guarantee he would be a success at United if we did sign him.

I assume we all hope he is great if we do sign him, but it's silly to claim this transfer carries no risk.

Shevchenko was arguably the worlds best striker when he moved to England at 29 and he flopped, if that can happen to a player like him in his 20's then it can happen with any player. Yes even Ibrahimovic.

He won't say anything until an agreement is in place, but it'd be difficult to negotiate terms before deciding who to negotiate them with!!

Someone at the other end of their career who's already scored in the PL. Kane, for a start, would be a good signing for 3 years with Mourinho.

No reason for Kane to come here, unless Utd are putting in an astronomical offer on the table (75M+ at least) and Levy forces Kane to get out so that they can make some money.

Right well Kane isn't going to happen. He's in no rush to leave Spurs who are notoriously difficult to deal with anyway let alone when it's with us. I honestly reckon a bid of £80m would be rejected.

We'd be far better using the mega sums it would cost to sign Kane or even Lukaku on signing someone like Pogba or Griezmann as a second striker. The advantage of Zlatan being in his mid 30's is he's effectively a stop gap, a short term option whilst we develop our own Kane (Rashford).

Mourinho and Ibra have never worked together...

Kane will move at some point and going to United under Mourinho is going to appeal to him. It's not impossible.

We'll wait and see. My gut feeling is that Mourinho won't sign Ibra and that we'll all be surprised...

Dont think not signing Ibra will be a big surprise. If we sign, then good. If we sign someone else, then good again.
The discussion was more on signing Ibra being called a gamble.
