The phone calls to convince Wenger to sell RvP take on some meaning dont they...maybe it wasnt only RvP that was discussed...

Seriously speaking, i dismissed the possibility of Moyes yesterday...but now i think that is nailed on to happen.

Moyes has to be the most dull, uninspiring choice ever. We'll probably need to make a big signing or two just to keep the fans excited and on his side.

Appointing Moyes sends a signal that the club want stability.

He wouldn't be my numero uno choice, but if we're looking at the long game and someone who knows the Premier League he's the best choice.

He can start by bringing Baines with him.

I would be ok with Moyes if that's who SAF recommends. Might seem uninspiring but he has run a steady ship, players respect him, and we need someone solid. Don't forget that SAF himself was only a good manager before he came here - many United fans didn't want him because he'd only proved himself at Aberdeen. He became a great manager at the club.

Mourinho would be more interesting for sure, but he already thinks he's great and I think he would create some problems. Also not sure if he would stick around for long enough to continue the legacy properly. A few years ago I would have said a definite no but he does seem to be getting wiser with age. Again, I'd be happy if it's who SAF recommends.

Klopp doesn't seem likely to come and I don't really know enough about him anyway.

Not too many other candidates spring to mind. Interesting times. Now is not the time to worry too much about this, even if it is a big worry. We should concentrate on applauding a great man.

Out of the current bunch he's the only one I can see staying for the long term, he will want to prove a few people wrong as well.

He has no experience managing a team full of stars, no experience from CL, no experience buying top players on a huge budget, never managed a winning team, never been manager under the pressure of a club like United and now even as the manager to follow the best manager in history. To believe he is the best option, then you are following your heart rather than brain. He is a horrible option and can damage the club.

The only man to take control at this club and all that comes with it is Mourinho.

It'll be Moyes, alright. Would be very surprised if anyone any else is announced. I'm fine with that. Moyes is a good manager and a decent bloke. Is he ruthless enough - is he enough of a sheer winner to make it at the very highest level? Now, that remains to be seen. But I do think he deserves the chance.

The key component here is Fergie, after all. If we give the job to Moyes (and I think we will) it'll be on Fergie's direct recommendation. Surely that has to count for something.

Remember Chelsea fans treatment of Benitez, we're going down that route here with Moyes.

Get a grip of yourselves, not a minute in the job and most of you have written him off. The reality is he deserves his chance at a top side, and this would have been Ferguson's pick. Do we all know more than Ferguson?

With Moyes coming here and Mourinho going to Chelsea, I imagine the league title will be between the two sugar daddy clubs for next couple of seasons at least.

This is because Moyes respects United's heritage. Is cut from the same cloth as Sir Alex and Sir Matt Busby. And is a long term manager according to SSN.

Mourinho or Klopp for me. Have a feeling it could be Moyes though...

I have two issues with Moyes getting the job - 1) he has never won anything 2) will the players respect him enough?

I wouldn't go that far yet. As long as we back the manager at the stadium which Chelsea didn't do, it's irrelevant what people say on a football forum.

What have people actually got against Moyes? Not sure I understand. I mean he could hardly have achieved more at Everton. Surely the worst people can say is that he hasn't proved himself at a really big club, but the same will be true of most others (and was also true of SAF when he came).

Moyes?! Give me one good reason why we should hire a manager who hasn't won anything...

Everton to United is a ludicrous step up. Look at AVB, went from Porto to Chelsea and even that was too big a step up. Everton to United is a hundred times bigger than that.

What's he won though? This is a mistake.

I doubt anybody on here has a hatred of Moyes.

We can't really know that. He is not my top choice too, but saying that is beyond stupidity. We can't write someone off, even before he gets the job.

Next time Ill go watching United Ill need to make sure Ill take some pain killers. My neck will be hurting me as hell.

Agree with that but I'm suddenly not sure about Mourinho. He would make me feel a lot safer than Moyes though. Add to that list, what players are going to come for Moyes and who would come for Mourinho/others?

What Scottish? Is that not a bit racist or something?

I will support Moyes if he is selected of course. You have to admit that he won't bring any player pulling power a la Mourinho or Klopp though.

Fergie had way surpassed expectations at Aberdeen though, in a way that Moyes hasn't.

But yeah, I don't disagree, he's done well.

Only time would tell. He hasn't really had the resources at Everton to be ruthless though. It's not like he's been able to replace players he didn't rate or get on with at the drop of a hat. I Personally think Moyes would be a huge gamble, but then again, who wouldn't be? It's one hell of an act to follow.

People keep saying this. SAF broke Celtic-Rangers dominance and won the league with Aberdeen. He also beat Real Madrid in a cup final! No comparison.

1) Nope but he's always had one hand tied behind his back in terms of finances. He's had to sell to buy and has never been able to build a strong enough squad.

2) They bloody better, no matter who comes in. They're the players, he'd be the manager. If Fergie hasn't drummed into them that the manager is top dog then they're no better than Chelsea players.

So we're basing this on Sky saying it'll be announced within 48 hours so that everyone keeps glued to their channels over the next couple of days until they can continue it on over the weekend with football they are showing.

Ha. It's like transfer muppet season already.

Somebody who isn't British. Tradition is wonderful, but hindsight in 2/3 years will be tough to take.

How is he cut from the same cloth? SAF and Sir Matt we're winning things! I'm fecking baffled and feeling and acting like a numpty this morning. With an essay to do also.

fecking hell SAF, come back already please.

#mufc sources say successor announcement "soon", and "he'll be cut from same cloth as Ferguson and Busby, and believe in youth development"

Errr, not quite. Moyes hasn't said he'll never managed you and slagged off your supporters as well as managing fierce rivals.
