Yoann Gourcuff

So, have we fallen behind Arsenal in the pecking order? I mean, dont we have the shit up our asses to get a decent player?

Sorry. We have Obertan.

How have we 'fallen behing Arsenal in the pecking order?'

Based on a report in The Sun?

Have you considered that we may just not want the player?

Shh don't take sense mate. Let him commit his muppet suicide

I was thinking about it recently, the answer is obvious, United don't have much cash at the moment, mainly down to the owners being cheap and the club being skint. If they put cash forward they will more than likely get the player of their choosing, the thing is it atm it would put United in a 1v1 bid v someone else who wants him which would draw United in to spend more.

This is exactly what I wanted to convey. The muppet in me is not yet ready for suicide. :D

The level of panic and paranoia is reaching epic proportions. It's a potentially explosive cocktail, and I genuinely fear for some people if we don't sign half of the Spain squad in the next few days, which of course we won't do.

Half of the Caf could off themselves, and the other half end up in hospital with critically high blood pressure, and it won't make a blind bit of difference to who we sign, how much we spend, and when we spend it. These things aren't worth worrying about, precisely because there's nothing that any of us can do to influence it.

The ownership of the club, on the other hand, is something that we certainly can influence.

We've spent 40 million in the past year alone. We have the transfer budget.

Plus calling us skint as compared to Arsenal based on a report in The Sun for a players we've hardly shown interest in is muppetry of the highest order.

Even that is very much in doubt.

I've been saying it for months, he's not the type of player we need or half the folks on here believe he is. Would be a great luxury player in the Berbatov mold.

I think we need some top talents now. We've got plenty of players who could possibly do a job. Hernandez looks to be that kind of player, someone who will get into good positions and finishes well. Valencia is a good player, Carrick is a good player, Fletcher is a good etc etc. The only one whose top quality in midfield and attack is Rooney. Nani can get there as well, albiet a level below Rooney, but still has some way to go. But at least he has the talent. We need one or two more who have are blatantly and obvious to the eye, talented enough to be top drawer and not too far from it either.

Yes.

The thing about everyone harping this is that they really don't know what the situation in training is and yet are willing to speculate purely on basis of conjecture. Don't you think SAF and the coaching team realise we've looked blunt at times? He has mentioned it too. Yet, we really seem to be going for these 'can do the job' players for a reason. Just like Nani is suddenly a fan favourite for performing for 3 months or so, we never know whats in the locker.

Also, on what basis do you call Hernandez as 'can do a job' player? Has he even played for us for you to say that?

Every single day there is another player, who'd be perfect for us. All on basis of a couple of Youtube clips. The posters then go on and defend the player till ridiculous levels as if they're the ones who scouted them. Every thread is a ridiculous wishlist of 4 players bought and 5 sold. Except when the word Glazer pops in.

Finally, we don't NEED any kind of player. We seemed to be doing quite okay considering the circumstances. It would help to have another class player but we can live regardless. We have plenty of 'top talents.' Rooney, Nani, Vidic, Evra, Rio are all top drawer. Valencia, Fletcher are great players. Thats 7 of our first teamers who would probably get into the first team anywhere.

We also have many promising youngsters too.

Edit: I'm not particularly pointing at you amol. Apologies if this comes off that way

That doesn't mean we stop discussing all together. When you're passionate about something you don't just not discuss it because you aren't in control. Strange way to look at things to be honest.

And it's not conjecture, it's an observation of what I believe to be the truth, or as close to it, call it an opinion if you will. IMO we have only one top player in midfield and attack in our team who can consistently win us games. There's nothing controversial about that. It's not conjecture, it's pretty close to the truth. Secondly, I don't see anyone, barring Nani who will become a top player anytime soon in midfield and attack. Anderson will but in a few years. Nani could possibly but it could take some more time.

I've seen very little of Hernandez and hence the 'looks to be' bit. Looks like he could be a good signing.

Totally irrelevant to my post. I have no idea why you've put this in response to mine. This should have been somewhere else.

It's pretty obvious that when I say NEED it's in relation to winning big trophies. I thought that was a given. We'll do just fine with this team for a number of years. But if we want to win big trophies we'll need either a metioric rise like we've seen from Ronaldo or players coming in.

As for the top talents bit, again you've misread my post and are rambling. I've constantly said 'in midfield and attack'. I doubt Vidic, Evra and Rio are part of that.

Valencia and Fletcher are good players, not great players.

We have four top players in our team - Vidic, Rio , Evra and Rooney. The rest are good players with Nani having an outside chance of being a top player but probably won't be as good as the above four as very few are.

Is Gourcuff a top drawer talent?

The few times I've seen him he's looked it. But I haven't seen enough.
i've rarely seen him apart from snippets

when i did see him live he was very poor for france against ireland in those playoffs i felt

He is

But i'm a fanboy, take my words with a pinch of salt, though I think he's got it all

I keep saying when he's good he's outstanding, the majority of the time though he's invisble.

For Gourcuff, I saw his contract and he has a get-out clause of up to 25 million Euros. If he wants to leave in August, we will break the bank."
Lyon's president Jean-Michel Aulas about a possible transfer of Gourcuff to Olympique.

When it comes to French players, it's no surprise that we would be behind Arsenal in the pecking order. And they would pretty much guarantee him first team football, as well as building their team around him (most likely). Unless we intend to play him on the wings, or change our formation to accommodate him, he would be facing competition from Scholes, Carrick, Anderson and Giggs, at least in the first season.

Don't you think we can fit him in a midfield 3 without really changing our formation? Or even as you said, put him out wide. I agree that Arsenal will build their team around him - especially if Fabregas leaves, but I don't think accomodating him in the team is the problem. It is inevitably money and whether or not he has the mentality to succeed at our club.

sorry but I can see anyone in our squad capable of displacing him(if we buy him). Gourcuff is worth every penny of those 25 millions.

You kidding me, if we got him and he played for us as well as he did for Bordeaux everyone would be calling him Goucufflop.

In about 3-4 years the lad may become one of the best talents in the world but to claim he's worth every penny when he hasn't done that much yet is a bit daft at the moment. He may have an outstanding worldcup and finally step up his game. At the moment he suffers every young players problem, consistancy.

Inconsistency, mate. Like a woman's mind.
