Yann M’Vila

I'm not sure whether the last line is a dig or misplaced praise.

Not at all Brwned, you usually seem to know your shit.

I think you should give him a watch for Rennes because for me he takes on a completely different role, the vast majority of their play goes through him so much more than it does for France I think and it shows a different side to him.

That being said he is still very clearly more prominent in deeper areas of the pitch - with and without the ball - than Defour so I can't argue there, if you think we need that type of midfielder more then I can't argue!

The one thing we know is that if you want to be a successful midfielder here you have to play a bit too, Sir Alex has never seemed interested in the Makelele's or Mascherano's, and we know both of these can.

Yeah fair enough, I haven't seen him for Rennes so I don't have a full picture of the lad. I think if he is actually £15m he would be very much worth the punt, no arguing the lads talent. I may not think he'd be as good a fit as Defour but he would still be great to have in our midfield.

Considering Defour would be likely cheaper than him, would it be too much to ask to get both? :)

if he is better than diarra ( who remember has prem + champ league experience) then surely he is a must purchase, we need a combative ball winner.

Loads of rumours at the mo, wouldnt surprise me if all this is fabrication. The midfield links are interesting, sneidjer, rodwell, mvilla, modric, defour etc

I still think we'll go for modric as he is one who fergie has consistently praised and who may be available if spurs finish 6th.

Football premier-league: Rennes vow to fight off United, Arsenal and Liverpool and keep M'Vila | Radio talkSPORT

Rennes have vowed to withstand any effort by Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool to prise Yann M'Vila from the club this summer.

The Premier League trio are just a select few admirers of the combative midfielder, who has caught the eye of Europe's leading clubs this season.

M'Vila, who has eight caps for France, has been the driving force behind Rennes' impressive season in Ligue 1.

The club are currently fifth and face a battle to hold on to the 20-year-old in the summer, with United, Arsenal and Liverpool all keen to speak to the club about M'Vila's availability.

He has a contract until 2014, however, and talkSPORT understands Rennes are not planning to sell M'Vila this summer and will fight to keep him in France.

Well that will either keep him at the club until 2015 or any club who wants him will have to pay an increased amount than what they would have paid this season.

Sir Alex Ferguson will look to continue his summer of spending with a move for French international midfielder Yann M’Vila as the Old Trafford boss looks to add more steel to his midfield. The Man United manager has already purchase Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea and will look to add more youth to his squad with a bid for the promising young Rennes starlet.

M’Vila is a strong tough tackling defensive midfielder who has already attracted the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Ferguson is looking to bring in an out and out enforcer and has had scouts watching the 21 year old Amiens born man for the past season.

Ferguson has seen his central midfield options reduced following the retirement of Paul Scholes and the departure of injury prone England international Owen Hargreaves and the Scot is also considering offers for Irishman Darron Gibson.

Man United will reportedly offer around £15m for M’Vila who is also targeted by Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho who is looking to improve his Bernabeu squad in the hope of wrestling superiority from La Liga rivals Barcelona this coming season.

Ferguson is freshening up his Man United squad with an eye to the future and the building of a new generation of talent and the purchasing of Jones from Blackburn and de Gea from Atletico Madrid, coupled with last summer’s acquisitions of Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling, show a side not wishing to rest on their laurels and even though the Old Trafford side captured the Premier League title they are still looking to plan for the future and see M’Vila as a player worthy of signing.

M’Vila is now a French international regular and has been a mainstay at Rennes and helped the Brittany based side to a sixth place finish last term. General director of Stade Rennais, Pierre Dreossi, has stated his intention to keep the club’s prized possession but may find it hard to keep the player’s head from being turned by such interest.

The allure of a move to Man United as well as the chance to prove his worth at Champions League level may well tempt M’Vila into pushing for a move from the Ligue 1 side he has represented since the age of 14.

Man United Look to Continue Spending With £15m Bid for French International Yann M

Still being linked if only by caught offside.

Never seen him play either, but from what I've heard about him he seems to the exact type of player I reckon we need in there.

He's very strong, athletic and breaks up the opposition play very well. But he's more than just a Makelele type player, he's got the ability to beat a player and has a good turn of pace.

He would add a great deal from a defensive point in view.

But...but....we need creative not destructive.
With a strong midfield base, and any three of Rooney/Nani/Valencia/Young/Giggs filling in the gap behind Hernandez, I'm of the opinion that we need destructive more than we need creative. Where we've lacked in recent times is the strong midfield base. Scoring goals is rarely a problem for us.

Perhaps destructive is not the right word. We simply need someone who can dominate that area, and a physically robust player like this lad seems to be could do wonders for us. For all of their good points, I would imagine opponents look at players like Carrick and Fletcher and think that they can be bullied.

We need someone who can hold on to the ball under pressure, that should be the priority, we shouldn't be thinking along the lines of "creative or destructive". If M'Vila is the mobile, athletic player he's made out to be and he's good on the ball as well and doesn't have Carrick's tendency to crumble, then he'll be a brilliant signing.

But of course there's no evidence that we're even interested in him.

M'Vila is good under pressure; carries and shields the ball well, is very composed and is always happy to receive the ball.

It would be just like Sir Alex to go out and get someone like M'Vila when we've been screaming for a Scholes replacement, just like we got Carrick when people were screaming for a Keane replacement.

I said we should sign him days ago, I'm taking all the credit for this if it happens.

I impregnated your mother and made her promise that her Grandchild would play for United.

Well played

As for M'Vila, only ever seen him on FM where he's a god in the middle, thats enough for me!

He is superior to Diarra. He possess Makelele's uncanny positional sense and intercepting ability, whilst being way better and more ambitious in his play. Plus blessed with a good engine. He can also get better still.

fecking hell.....he sounds sensational.....all for £20m???? wow

how many times have you seen him?

You people do realize that it's a Caught Offside article who is linking us with him?

So many that he can't even remember the rough number of games. You know, that many.

He's an upgrade on Fletcher not Carrick.

Does he not play in a defensively minded role in front of the back 4? In the couple of matches that I have seen him, that's where he plays. That's Carrick's position.

He must be pretty fecking amazing to be an upgrade on Fletcher at his best.
