Brilliant news for gamers. Made extra special by the salty tears of pc and Sony bots.

That's the view that should be looked at, and correctly was in the UK yes. Whether or not it holds up legally in different regions is well beyond my knowledge of any of that stuff, but the FTC definitely let it be made mostly about the big bad battle with Sony (and less so with Nintendo) and the market right now. Which was an obvious waste of time on so many levels, so that's why I find it so odd. Maybe cynically so, but then I was being cynical about the CMA's decision and likely u-turn, and we can now see what they are really like.

My personal view, which has never changed no matter who is doing the buying among the big boys, is that this further strangles developers and development, the advancement of technologies within gaming and creativity and will continue to do so. Both Sony and Xbox have an awful track record with 3rd party companies and how they are treated, and we all know just how bad Activision themselves are. Whilst most don't know or care, having been a part of the industry and still with plenty of friends in it (and have been directly affected by both those companies and their methods) it's close to my heart. Huge publishers buying up smaller companies is one thing, but over the years we've seen them strangle small companies with all sorts of methods making it so it's incredibly tough to be independent now. Even what they like to call "indies" has changed and requires a ridiculous level of funding, which is obviously then controlled. But that's obviously nothing to do with the legalities of this case and the legal rights or wrongs, nor will it ever change, nor do I expect most gamers to care. Until they have something to moan about of course.

The FTC's case, as far as I could tell, was a complete farce. The points they tried to drive at barely had any relevance to the actual question before the court. I was honestly shocked to see that kind of incompetence at what I had previously imagined would be a highly sophisticated body. Microsoft's legal team must have been laughing their heads off and toasting each other after every day of that hearing.

Why would Pc gamers give a toss? It’s good for them.
It makes no difference to them, no obvious advantage to it.
I cant see it being good for the industry or console gaming especially but the potential to be rid of Bobby Kotick just means I can't mourn it as much as i should.

Gamepass is available on Pc too. If they actually stick all these games on it that’s good for pc gamers. More options.

So will this mean that Call of Duty will be XBox exclusive going forward?

Didn't think of that. The battle net launcher is actually good too, considering their failure to set up a platform on pc that could be a good way to deliver it. I'd say that could be valuable to them. Might not be any harm to having a bit more competition for Valve though probably the last place you want it to come from.

Exactly, for example I want to play only through campaign of Diablo 4, but don't want to pay full price just for that. I hope now it comes to Game Pass.

So happy well no longer have CoD stink up the PS Plus monthly games line up anymore.

On a related note, I just want Sony to focus even more on proper single player games as they always have. The recent shift from them to expand their multiplayer library worries me far more than losing rubbish franchises like CoD. MS should buy Ubisoft next.

Yup they’ve already considered Sega. But do Sega games still make a lot of money?
Not particularly but a lot of popular mid level franchises with consistent sales. Yakuza, Persona, Football Manager and Total War for instance.

It will actually be interesting to see what they do with the COD franchise.

Try to lower the budget, make a mess of it, and stick it on GP a'la Halo? Still maintain the yearly releases at the further cost of quality? Actually take it off the Playstation where they make most money?

Or they could actually pull it back, reinvent it and make it fun again fully supporting the pro leagues/events and really capturing some of that market share back by doing good for the scene.

Not really, but it will be a fitting end to what they certainly helped start there.

Also it would be like a Rare pt 2, if they were still top of their game that is.

Finished Persona 5 Royal, that is a pretty fun game. Maybe a bit too much anime waffly bollocks at times, but stupidly good style and fun in an adolescent kinda way.

Started Ravenlok last night and I'm enjoying it so far, quite cute and very visually appealing.

The salt is real

What are the job cuts?
There aren't any, and if there where it would be ABK that had cut them, as MS doesn't own ABK yet. Truly tragic.

Could there be job cuts? Possibly seeing as ABK has 10,000 employees while Xbox and Zenimax have a combined staff of 5,000.

Job cuts always leave a bad taste in my mouth especially when the company that's making them are making a healthy Proffitt. It annoyed me when another console manufacturer closed whole studios recently, but I never heard anything about it on here. I especially don't remember it being added to the thread title. Even before the closures/job cuts where announced.

Are you really that shocked though? What were you expecting, good moderation?

I’ve never known posters get so uppity about thread titles the way @Alock1 and @Fully Fledged do
We don't bring console wars to the PS thread as much as you lot bring it to the Xbox thread. It gets old how quickly the PS crowd come over here to slate everything that happens in the Xbox space. Every single time anything that happens on Xbox rather than talking with other people who want to talk positively about the news we have to scroll through page after page of negativity.

If there were 2 threads one for people who want to dis on Xbox continually and another that wants to talk constructively can go it wouldn't be so bad.

That's not related to the deal, as it hasn't closed yet and still isn't certain to close (UK CMA still needs to approve). Plus that came out before the court decision, yesterday morning.

Also Washington is where Microsoft is headquartered, so it's where they have the largest # of their employees. This is minor for a company that has 220 thousand employees, and is really most likely normal result of either performance reviews or resource reallocation.

This thread would die without the ps nerds though.

Any time people try to talk about actual games, the xbots in here don't want to know.

Hey, thread titles are updated in both threads for all sorts of news, good and bad. This has mixed in Microsoft acquiring ABK and cutting jobs, other thread has purely bad in a studio leader leaving.

Trying to talk about the great showcase that I thought that Xbox had last month just descended into Starfield being 30FPS and everything else being CG even though nothing in the show was CG. Trying to talk about a Xbox game on here garners so much negativity that it becomes pointless.

It's only "pointless" because the supporting cast don't actually give that much of a shit about games.

This thread dies as soon as any drama does.

Seems like the CMA could still be a road block in the deal. I find it hard to believe that a UK reg could stop a merger between two US companies but still could happen. Although, the f knows any more.

They've pulled back, stopped the trial, and agreed to listen to Xboxes concessions. Unless something has changed today.
