WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

There is nothing wrong with having opinions. Nothing wrong with enjoying any England team be it mens or womens or anything lose.

What is interesting is, having so much hatred towards these people, who have done nothing other than outrageously being born in a country that you don't like. No one is winning here. Its just ridiculous.

Can you seriously enjoy seeing Rashford, Maguire, Shaw, Mount, etc etc lose and then a week after support them when playing for United?

It's pathetic man.
I think you will find most get enjoyment from England’s failures not because they dislike the players but it’s due to the attitude of many England supporters , media and pundits.

Honestly I get the laughing at the men's team, but to laugh and get joy over women crying Is pretty pathetic.

Fine to laugh at men, pathetic to laugh at women? Nice way to expose yourself as a sexist.

A supposedly 'lifelong United fan' leaving United for Arsenal won't get much sympathy from true United fans.

This guy on the end is fecking creepy.

Of course. But can someone not separate 11 women or men from said many england supporters, media and pundits or is that too much to ask?

Anyone else notice that the ref went to her pocket when that Spanish player kicked it away ang then realising it would be second yellow she stopped half way.
Ye that’s what’s annoying. If it’s a yellow any other time then why not give yellows when already on a yellow. It’s the same with time wasting keepers they’ll only get booked once for it but if someone’s on a yellow and then takes the shirt of when celebrating they’ll be of..

That was like women vs. girls out there.

In the present day, there's more 'demand' for this attitude from non-English observers than there is supply.

England has had a much more positive attitude around the national team for at least the Southgate years. It's also had little sense of taking anything for granted, and more of an 'enjoying the ride' mentality, albeit with some minor gripes about the style of football at times.

Yet still, the narrative endures, I remember when Croatia knocked England out of the WC and Modric seemed to create out of whole cloth a story about the English media being 'arrogant' to think that Croatia would be tired or some such nonsense.

I don't even care much about the England NT but this is all a bit grating

It is pathetic though, nice try though to try and swing it back to me and accuse me of being sexist. Very sad!

It’s like when people was mocking that young German girl who was in tears and it went all over social media when we played them couple years ago.

This shouldn’t be based on Arsenal/united though. If we’re English then we should support them no matter what club they play for. That’s like saying we don’t want the men’s England team to win because there’s city/arsenal players playing for them.

Of course. But can someone not separate 11 women or men from said many england supporters, media and pundits or is that too much to ask?

Nope. It’s a weird paradox for sure. I cried my eyes out when England went out at Euro 96 but was pleased just 4 years later when they crashed out in the group stage.

You can't be too hard on England. They've done brilliant in the last couple of years. Thier success has made an absolutely massive impact on the women's game in the UK, and with someone that has three daughters it shows them they can play football too.

To the bitter posters that carry on the hate from the England men's team to ladies team, your a bunch of idiots.

This, this and all of this. Very well said.

Earps reminds me of Pickford, that ability to look so polite off the pitch, then turn into a nutter when the ball’s in play.

Final was the first match of the tournament I’d managed to watch and thought it was a good contest. Spain the better side but our girls gave it everything.

If I’m being critical, thought Bronze had a really poor game. Reminded me of a few United players recently, almost everything she did went wrong, and at fault for the goal, too.

They just slapped Australia in Australia in the semis when the whole of the country was busy celebrating a loss. I know which one is the expert in losing

Yeah. I found that nauseating. There's nothing to celebrate after being losing a World Cup semi final when you've been outplayed for all bar 10 minutes of the match.

Spain deserved it. It was interesting to see how the Spanish football dna transcended gender and they played a lot like their men’s team.
England has a good thing going though. Must keep up the good work for the future

Time to move forward to qualifying for the 2024 olympics for England.

Need to beat Netherlands in the nations league group stage to make it to the playoff round and win that as well.

Sweden has Spain in the same group, so either Spain or Sweden wont even play the knockout round to the olympics, thats tough.

Likely sweden will be out before the playoffs to the olympics after reaching 4 straight semifinals in the big competitions.

Not everyone on the internet is English.

I'm sorry for them that they lost.
Couldn't give a feck either way but certainly don't hate them.

This is honestly the most pathetic thing I have ever read online.

Scary what people will do to win an argument online.

Thought I'd come in and give United's captain Katie Zelem some props. She had an excellent game against China, helping to knit it together in front of the back line, thoroughly switched-on when out of possession, constantly shifting and offering herself as an outlet and, if used, playing the no-nonsense pass, keeping possession, keeping it calm. I think she can count herself a bit unlucky that she didn't come on for the second half of the final, at least. The thing that counts against her is her distinct lack of pace, but Stanway or maybe Walsh pushed forward a bit could've compensated for that. A calm head that can consistently successfully execute the non-flashy stuff is a good thing to have in a high-pressure game. Bronze looked jumpy, Greenwood looked harried, and Walsh looked a bit spooked.

Imagine being tragic enough to take joy in this incredibly likeable England team losing and actually taking time out to gloat about it :wenger::lol:

Spain were just the better team today. There’s no shame in that. England haven been brilliant over the last few years.
I don’t see anyone gloating

Yep, aside from Earps she was the best player on the pitch today for me for England.

Thought Greenwood played well, midfield didn't really function, Hemp looked quite good when she got on the ball, very unlucky to get a yellow (perhaps players cautioned can ask for a VAR review, cause I'm certain that it would have been recinded).
Earp's did look as though she'd moved off her line for the penalty, but I'm not sure whether the keeper has to have part of a foot on the line, or part of a foot in line with the line. Her back foot was up in the air so could have been in line with the line.
All in all, the better team won.

Why would you assume that?
I’m not getting into this because I’ll get accused of stuff I’m certainly not. I’m just saying English fans shouldn’t laugh at their own nation no matter which club the player plays for.

I don’t think anyone is laughing. Merely calling out that Spain seemed more ready for this level whereas England appeared to play the equivalent of park football. They weren’t at the same level. But shit happens. They did incredibly well to get to the World Cup final on the back of winning the euros.

as for this forum it’s multi national, hence why I questioned why you’d assume it’s mostly English. It’s the WC final. Loads of people watched it.We’re on a forum so loads of people will make comments

Sad that they lost but don’t think they played to their potential. Whether that was nerves, or Spanish play not allowing it? I thought Bronze had a poor game for most of it, Stanway too. Had we got a goal instead of the cross bar early on it may have settled the nerves and made the team play like in the semis.

Pleased we at least had a penalty save to cheer. :) I love Earps.

Hopefully this will further promote women’s/girls football. I think the lack of English dignitaries at the match was bad. For me the main difference between the men’s and women’s team is money. The game will be different between male and female but the effort put in, and the passion just the same.

Was hoping that England could win it, but Spain was comfortable the better team on the day. They smothered England very well, and controlled the game well.

Also James baffles me at times, sure she is great on the ball, but she always looks like she is just out for a stroll and does very little to help the team if they don't have the ball.
