WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

Urgh, got a nasty feeling that Wiegman is gonna do a Southgate and sub on three players to take penalties just before the final whistle…

Anti-VAR fans in sweden (we dont have VAR in sweden and the clubs oppose it) already using the video of Bronze mauling the Nigeria attacker as proof that VAR is useless :D

Its a good argument. If 3 VAR refs cant even let the ref look at that, something is clearly wrong.

Why Toone is not on yet is just stupid....some of these "golden girls" should have been subbed by now 15-20 minutes ago surely.

The problem for England is when they do break out they just dont have enough players getting forward. Fresh legs could help with that

Yeah, it's so stupid from Wiegman and the rest of the coaching staff to not inject some energy from players like Toone and Zelem.

Wiegman been awful here not making near enough subs. If England concede, it's largely down to her. Struggled all game and made 1 sub. The team is clearly gassing hard here and still only 2 subs. They can't even keep the ball now.

Nigeria getting 6 or more players forward all the time because they dont have to keep players back with only 1 England striker

I've had the feeling throughout the game that it's been a very conservative performance. Not once have I felt that England have gone for it or really pushed to win the game. It's been very strange.

Where is the desperation from Nigeria? That burning hunger to score and write history?

South Korea against Germany showed more will to win!

Really enjoying this. Good stuff.Nigeria very strong physically, not making this easy

get zalem and toone on to control midfield.

They are tired as well. They've done most of the attacking this match.

Zelem coming on for designated scapegoat role.

It was a definite penalty. Completely irrelevant whether the Nigerian was going to head the ball or not. Just very clumsy. No need for a "Yellow Penalty".

I think the shape of the penalty area generally makes no sense and having so many games depend on a ref's 50/50 decision seems crazy when that 50/50 decision results in an 80%+ chance of a goal. Also leads to tons of fouls in the box on corners and such as defenders play chicken with the refs.

Nigeria have disappointed since the red card.

They don't really have the technical quality, and the forward who does is half-crocked.

I will give credit to both sides on this one though, its been a tough game, lots of heavy challenges, and they have mostly just got on with it.

Nigeria have a too small goalkeeper to have any chance on penalties, Earps have this secured.

Nigeria did not take their free chance at the quarters now they will pay the price!

England should fancy themselves here with the better keeper and more techincal players.

Earps is class, but the Nigerian keeper has been amazing all tournament.

True, some decisions are very open to interpretation and that shouldn't really be the case. It breeds inconsistency and creates an unfair playing field. This particular incident wasn't debatable though in my view.

Best penalty is to put in the middle of the net stats-wise. Only the american goalkeeper did that Vs Sweden. Who will be smart this time? Zelem?

USA would be through if they had put every penalty in the middle of the net.
