To the bold, yes in his 3142/532. My post specified that if he instead goes for the 343 he used at Chelsea. Either way, we're going to be leaving 6 or 7 attacking players out.

You're right, our squad is horribly unbalanced no matter what formation. 2 or 3 attacking players too many, 2 or 3 defensively capable players short.

We are going to have 6 or 7 attacking players out in all circumstance even if you play in 433 which is what someone like ten Hag favors. Our attacking players issue shouldn't be a factor in this decision because it's the fruit of boneheaded decisions and it should rectified by selling some this winter or letting some leave this summer and replace them with the defensive minded and deep lying playmakers that we desperately need. And that reality applies to whoever manages the team be it Ole, Conte or ten Hag.

I know. But that’s clearly not how he reacts every time a player asks for a contract. As I said, it wasn’t aimed at you as much as every other post saying something along the lines of ‘at least he’d boot Pogba out’.

I’m not a bookies. I’m sure if you’re that confident you can get better odds than anything I can provide. People said the same thing about Jose.

Mourinho performed to the same standards of his previous appointment at Chelsea. When he won the title with Chelsea in 2015 he won it with 87 points and won 26 matches out 38. In his second season at United he finished 2nd with 81 points and won 25 matches, so he was just doing exactly the same job that he did at Chelsea when he won the league. It was just the fact that City raised the standards so much for the number of points needed to win the league by getting 100 points.

Conte already won the league with Chelsea with a stunning 93 points. He has just won the league with Inter with 91 points. He knows how to dominate a league season, and we're getting him at his prime, unlike Mourinho who was at the latter part of his career.

Conte for me is like the young version of Mourinho when he was the best manager in the world. Doesn't play breathtaking football but his teams are very organized, balanced and know how to hurt the opposition. They don't park the bus but they know how to defend well, and when they attack, they attack with a purpose and plan. He's very active on touchline and very demanding from his players and club. He's exactly like Mourinho when he was young. That's the reason why they clashed when they were managing against each other in PL.

I have no doubt in my mind, Conte will be a fantastic choice for such group of players and will demand them to take the next step.

Conte I feel is a step backwards.

Right now our biggest issues are that all of the coaching and management are far to inexperienced and TBH Mike Phelan, how much impact does he really have today?

Ole could use more experienced help in certain area's but nothing will change on that front.

So if United sack ole, you'd have to think that all that time and investment in the coaching side and United DNA goes out of the window again.

I would have been happy a year ago with Chelsea's manager, but we gave Ole a longer run in charge and we are paying the price.

Terrible decision if they’re looking to appoint him. Fits nothing at all to do with the club. Gross.
A manager with an impressive, title winning pedigree doesn't fit anything at United?

So something I didn't see anyone bring up yet, but Inter were the second highest scorers in Serie A last year.

3rd across the top 5 leagues combined.

6th in xG across the top 5 leagues behind Lyon, PSG, Barcelona, Atalanta, Bayern.
Really good point. Even if he is defensively minded, that kind of play results in plenty of interceptions to be the starting point to build up attacks, or even counter attacks. Something that our current attackers can make good use of. We just need to start controlling games and no longer be a mess when the opposition has the ball.

I'm a huge fan of Conte. He's tactically flexible, loyal to his players, and I'm pretty sure if you stare into his eyes for more than five seconds you turn to stone.

Conte is another Jose. Plays his own way, can kick up a fuss, tends to not last too long and burns bridges. I’d be slight wary of him, would want to be a short deal to see how it goes if it is him.

Man Utd always play with wingers. Conte's 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 requires fullbacks. He is not the manager for Greenwood, Rashford, and Sancho.

Have to say I’m intrigued by the thought having him might attract Barella to United.

The guy has won 4 Serie A's. And a Premier League and FA Cup in two seasons at Chelsea.

What's not to like. Football and trophies is all I want.

I'm sure that he'd start dismantling the team in the summer to fit his preferred tactics, but so many of his former players say that he's one of the best tacticians in the game. I'm pretty sure that he would find a way of getting these current players playing much better than what we've seen so far.

I don't know much about his supposed issues with players and clubs. Is he as bad as Mourinho or is he just a hard ass? Sir Alex wasn't exactly an angel but the players always gave everything for him.
He will be an improvement over Ole for sure. But that is not enough. United fans and the board expect certain kind of football. We saw this with Jose. We took Jose, very well knowing that he plays defensive football and is an a**hole when things don't go his way. But we hired him and then kept complaining about boring football and needing to attack, attack and then got worked up when he went crazy. That's just not possible. If we hire Conte, we take in into consideration his eccentricities, his boring brand of football and everything. And then we give him what he wants. We should not be expecting him to find new solutions that are directly in conflict with the brand of football he is an expert in.

Again, if we hire Conte and get the players he wants, we can't go after Ten Haag or any coach who plays highly offensive brand of football 2 years down the line.

They played some good stuff especially in big games in the league but because his sides are usually very disciplined and organized at the back, on tip of being Italian, he's got a reputation as a defensive manager.

That ignores the way his Juve and Chelsea sides were blowing people away often though.

We've got more talent in attack moving forward than he had at Inter too so I don't doubt we could play eye pleasing football once he settles our midfield and defence issues.

I'm neither here nor there on Conte, but the same could have been said for Mourinho
Honestly, I'd probably take Mourinho over Ole again. At least he won us silverware - with a much inferior squad. And the Conte-Mourinho comparisons are way OTT anyway.

problem is, the same was said about Jose. Both a cute of the same cloth. Both batshit, both tend to make more enemies than friends. Football isn’t great to look at and the first grumblings will come

Learnt nothing from our issues with Mourinho apparently.

I expect the club view him as one of the only managers who can compete with Mourinho and Klopp and we have the squad to do just that.

He left on his own accord though once a firesale was going to be imposed on him and has never been sacked before unlike Jose and unlike Jose, he's still at the top of his game.

The only parallels between both are that they can be firebrands and are very strict about how they want to set up their teams, as in very strong at the back first and foremost. He's never had managerial meltdowns leading to being sacked due to performance though nor has he ever lost a dressing room

I don't know if he burns bridges, if you take Juventus as an example, his DOF/CEO hired him at Inter and he seemingly left Inter in good terms after explaining that their new ambitions didn't match his own ambition. With Chelsea it's a bit murkier, it doesn't seem that burnt bridge with players or fans. Mourinho actually tries to burn everything on his way out and is eventually asked to leave in exchange of a lot of money because clubs want peace.

This club is actually finished, he's much better than Ole mind, but another wrong decision this would be.

What have we learnt with Ole at the helm? I really want to hear.

He is, but I'm fairly sure people argued similarly that Jose was, when he joined us.
After leaving Chelsea near the bottom of the table and flaming out results wise?

Not even the biggest Jose fans were arguing that, in fact I remember the common notion among them being that we should've gotten him in much sooner after Fergie retired or after Moyes when he still had a spark left. We all knew we weren't getting peak Jose

Why did Conte leave Inter?
Inter had to sell players to balance the books. I'm not sure but didn't something similar happen at Chelsea - where he wasn't getting a say in who left? I know he wanted to keep Matic but the club sold him anyway.

A lot of the people who are saying he's another Mourinho because he causes problems are missing the point that he had to deal with a lot of shit from Inter and Chelsea. If he comes to United and gets the same ability to pick and choose his teams that we've given other managers then that problem kind of fixes himself. The issue with him demanding 100% from his players at all times might be an issue for certain individuals at the club, but unlike LVG he isn't a total lunatic.

Also, for the individuals using the other concern, having an organised defense doesn't mean you're a defensive manager. His clubs score a fair few goals. I don't think people will care about *boring* football when Ronaldo and Fernandes are banging in a brace against Liverpool in the rematch.

If Jose had the current squad it would never have been an issue.

Many are forgetting what Jose had then and what we have now are different things.

Imagine what Jose would have done with AWB, Maguire, Telles, VDB, Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho.

Conte is a 2nd chance at having a world level manager. And this time he's got a good squad.

I've said it before every manager appointment since SAF - this is the wrong decision.

Club will never truly progress with the omnishambles that is the United executive team.

Does anyone know if Conte actually wanted/sanctioned the signings of Drinkwater, Morata, and Bakayoko in 2017? Or were they (partly) forced by the board? Woeful signings.

He won’’t get that here. And I hope he doesn’t. It’s the time for the manager to be expendable and “used” by the club, not the other way around.

This really needs to die. I don’t know who started this rumour on the CAF but it’s rubbish. Did no one watch his Chelsea. They flew forward and ripped teams aparts.

I mean we did lose to him 4-0 at the bridge, pretty sure he beat Pep too 3-1.

IMO this would be a really bad move and one which we come to rue in the future. Really hope the club go for someone like Ten Hag than Conte.
