I was merely talking purely about the quality of football. There's no question that LvG was far more successful here than anything Ole has done.

Maybe, but some of the most boring football I have ever seen, 80%+ possession, and something like 3 shots and 1 on target. It was awful.

Yup the quality of football under Ole is better. It was certainly the worst football I've ever watched us play.

What is going to happen is the Pep is going to leave City and they will hire Poch and we will be left too late to hire anyone who can coach. Well there is always Phil Neville now.

Blonde moment.

Despite the lack of a modern day world map, you made some good points though. Delia and Ole have had quite similar coaching careers, Deilas probably even more impressive (Godset) due to lack of financial backing compared to Ole’s sides.
There are actually plenty of rumours about Deila being an alcoholic, and that he basically turned up to work under the influence on a semi regular basis during his stint at Vålerenga. Let’s hope they’re not similar in that regard. :nervous:

Please no. let other small lower table clubs do that. Not Manchester United ffs. Imagine Barca or Real playing like that. What a joke.

He needs to win. He’s not going to with any duo he puts at the back so I don’t see him having a choice.

Newcastle are playing well and I don’t think we can afford to try and go with this new high line we have adopted.

You are right and if that guy Maximin plays he can create havoc. Bruce will sit back and we will sit back for waiting to counter attack and I wonder how it will go. Each in their own half.

Haha, to my defence I had just posted in the Bendtnar thread, so maybe Denmark was on my mind. Or is he Norwegian, shit :p

I think Delia - like Ole - was a really decent bloke who the fans took to. Since I take a passing interest in Celtic, I can say that tactically he suffered at Celtic a-lot like Ole is with us: In that he struggled to implement the footballing identity you could see he was trying to create. He never created any toxic atmosphere and he left highly regarded as a person - not so much as a manager - and overall, done an ok job but was ultimately not good enough.

I just see a-lot of similarities between their journey's and their struggles when they took over big clubs with big expectations.

Won't be a fun watch but nothing new there. I think we will have the majority of the ball just doing nothing with it.

I am surprised Ole isn't trying to buy from premiere league teams while window still open.

The truly frightening thing is if Brighton had just a little bit more luck in front of our goal we could be rooted to the bottom with 12-15 goals conceded after three games, two of them at home. That has to put any manager on the line. In business, sport and life you have to change things until you get it right. A Manchester United manager is no different. I'm rooting for Ole but I don't think he's going to make it. Could he shake up his back room to improve us? Does he have the balls to do that because our players are far too inconsistent to just rely on individual brilliance. What a mess we've found ourselves in again.

Any competitive football team builds from the back. We had one of the best defensive record last season with exact same players. This season suddenly everyone playing like they had brain bypass. Coaching staff should focus and organize the defense on priority, on the double.

Rumors of Poch to united are circulating. Ideally club should have thanked Ole for last season and appointed a new manager before summer signings. What's the point in replacing Ole now? But the way we are playing if that continues then people can hardly complain if Ole is sacked.

I think City's brand is exciting and possession based football and Poch's football is comparatively not at the same level. They will go for Tuchel or one of the other German hipsters.

This is so true.
We have some very good players but they are not performing consistently. Good runs followed by bad by good by bad etc. Frustrating.
That's on manager.
There is a deeper rot at the club. That needs to be sorted too.

Replacing him now would be idiotic.

Not replacing him if the club has lost faith would be idiotic.

We're managed by idiots so it's no surprise are only options are idiotic.

I think we're preparing to get rid of him. It's the next phase in a business model we've been following since Sir Alex left.

I'm really disappointed to be honest. He's been fantastic imo. Third place was the best possible outcome last season, especially seeing as Martial and Rashford spent months out each and Pogba borderline sat out the season. We had no creativity in midfield until Jan and he was forced to rely on the likes of Pereira and Lingard. He changed the whole mood of the club, I really think people forget how dire things were at the end under Jose.

Whatever happened in the coming weeks / months he'll have left the club in a far better state than he got it in. He improved some players massively, he brought Greenwood through perfectly, there's more I could say about what I think he's done right but it's an argument I've been having with so many people for so long and its just tiresome at this point.

Again, this is hyperbolic to the extreme.

Best LvG position: 4th.

Best Ole position: 3rd.

That is literally better.

He also made it further in the Europa League than LvG did, and performed better in the League Cup. Both of which were better than LvG. He also made it past a R16 game, whereas LvG didn't even get out of his group.

The only metric LvG outperformed Ole on was winning the FA Cup, but outside of that one season, it was exactly the same. So the sum total of this supposed superiority is 2 more wins in one cup run which almost totally ignores literally every other competition.

And that FA Cup win was so inspiring he got the boot a few days later.

It doesn't matter who the manager is if he is not backed when it matters.

United is purely a cash cow and nothing else. Glazers don't care about taking United back to where they should be.

They're quite happy to spend money (probably earned from United) on their American football team.

Winning an FA Cup makes him a more successful manager given he also achieved his task of getting us CL football in his first season. I didn't rate his time here with us but he was more successful than Ole has been thus far. Maybe Ole will do better who knows. So saying it's 'hyperbole to the extreme' is, well hyperbole to the extreme :)

Fully agreed mate. But this is the nature of the beast with football fandom these days. Kids who think they know it all when they genuinely do not.

He's done an amazing job with essentially one hand tied behind his back, and condensed 2 seasons of transition into one. He's cleared out so much of the deadwood without getting the chance to replace them, and totally revolutionised the squad with only 4 signings. My worry after the transfer window is that all that progress has been for nought because we're pretty much in the same position as we were at the end of last season and the teams around us have all improved, some significantly so.

I'm hoping against hope that he can turn it around but last season was a minor miracle in my eyes, and this time around it will be even more difficult. Here's to hoping though.

Perhaps we could look at it a different way and instead of sacking Ole, the club got him better coaches. We have 2 relatively inexperienced (as in coaching a first team premier club) and perhaps we should look to bring some experience in. Phelan couldnt hack it at Hull alone, so perhaps he needed a Mulenstein at Utd as 2 experienced heads were better than one. Carrick and McKenna are not showing any improvement in tactics, build up play etc so a change of coaches and older experienced heads may make some difference.

Totally deserved to go too. Fact remains, so far he was more successful than Ole has been. Spin it how you like but it's a fact.

Ole is also nearing the same number of games in charge as LvG and both have a very similar win %. LvG got the boot despite winning a cup, so I see Ole's job being under scrutiny and he'll be gone soon, unless things drastically pick up.

We don't need to "get him" better coaches. If that's the problem, he needs to want to do it himself. And if he doesn't, it just goes to show that he's part of the problem and that replacing the coaches will not be enough.

He has done some things well and some things not so well. For me, he handicapped us with very expensive, but limited, centerhalf and right back.

Unfortunately, for United to get back on track, we need better decision making and to get most of them spot on.

See, comments like this only serve to add to the toxicity on here. Be the bigger person and debate rationally without silly digs just because people don't agree with you. Your posts are ordinarily rational from what I can see, so why post nonsense like that which causes division. It's as bad as cultist, fanboy etc.

I haven't spoken to any football fans who think Ole is the right man for us except United fans. There is a massive perception among opposition fans that he isn't up the task, many Liverpool fans I have spoken to said they hope he stays as coach for the next 10 years.

To that I'd say the quality of posts from the other side of the debate needs to be improved above all else. For far too long I've seen posters of a certain ilk being abusive and belittling, not just to other posters but to a club legend and someone who has the best interests of the club at heart. I have done nothing of the sort.

I've not denigrated others or their preferences for manager. The only thing I've done is state my opinion that the one we have right now needed backing before making any judgement on him. That backing has not arrived, even now after two summer transfer windows in the job and short of another miracle, that third summer window for him likely won't be arriving either.

If the only thing you took from the post you quoted was that first sentence, then I'd say you need to be looking inward rather than calling me out for that somewhat innocuous statement.

Sadly going by the Pochitteno reports today, I think the board have made the decision to sack Ole. You don't have Pochettiono on standby if you aren't going to sack the current manager.
