Wot, no transfers?

Because every other manager in the league has got all the signings that they wanted, didn’t they?!

no, there again most clubs don't pretend to be the biggest club in the world while playing with 33 year old failed wingers as fbs either.

Let Woody sort the mess he created. I am sure the class of 92 would be eager to step in and turn the donkeys we've got into absolute stars.

That's the catch 22 situation we are in, there are hardly any managers who can compete with the current bunch of competition we have in the league, who might play more ambitious football in big games. I don't think Zidane is ready to jump in this pressure and Allegri is not exactly who plays ambitious as well against total football. So Sacking him might not be the perfect solution for now though Jose certainly needs to find better ways on the pitch to get the best out of the bunch and show some ambition in big games, but it's the consistency which he needs to find in smaller games might be more crucial than just the big game for big honours.

We also don't have the players for attacking style managers like Pochettino to use. They are players set up for slow moving Mourinho/LVG style football. Even the quick ones such as Pogba & Martial are to lazy, & can hardly see them playing in a Poch style team. So if someone like him came in, he would to have compromise until he could get the suitable players in.

If I was Mou, I'd resign once the transfer deadline had passed. Let Woody sort the mess he created

Agreed. If we don't bring in anyone he's basically been told to work miracles. How are we supposed to win the Champions League this season with the current team?

I see you have given up on Shaw?:D

He had to work miracles even last season with useless fullbacks and dead right side of the pitch. Hilariously our fanbase is moaning we managed to finish 2nd with this squad.

United is the the biggest club in the world, by revenue and probably fans. This is fact, not pretence.

And much as many of our fans seem to like having a go at our own players, and yes I would also like to see us buy a left back, Ashley Young is not a failure. Ffs.

Don't think there's any need for any of you to take the day off or start smashing your F5 key.

At least its going to be a suspenseful deadline day for us. I like it when I havnt got a clue whats going on, makes it exciting. Probably depressing too but exciting....

In a league in which Liverpool didn't have a goalkeeper and Chelsea only had Kante in midfield. This year will be much more difficult to get top four. Everton have invested well. Arsenal have bought a great player in Torreira and have a new manager with new ideas and Spurs will be handy again. We won't make top four with our current defence. If we bring someone in, we might scrape 3rd. Either way, we won't be challenging for the title or champions league, which should be mandatory at Manchester United.

This is part of the argument. He's signed two 30m+ CBs who don't start. If fullbacks were such an issue, why didn't he sign one? It's his choice to prioritise another cb instead of a fullback. And you wonder why some are asking questions.

It can save our season. Appoint McKenna as interim. Seems like he has attacking philosophy.

I much doubt it. No disrespect for Mckenna but 3 seasoned managers + the club biggest legend had failed to build a top team with these charlatans around.

And yet we havent bought anyone who would improve us from day 1

yeah but when's the last time that worked for us? Berbatov?

I still dread the Herrera/Coentrao/Fellaini deadline. Hate when it goes down to the wire.

Our last CL winning team under Fergie featured a player who became the best player in the world after being bought for £12m, and had a defence featuring the likes of VDS, Evra and Vidic, all of whom were purchased for peanuts considering their respective quality.

I get that it's not particularly easy to do that...but Mourinho's spent plenty of money while here so far, and some of his signings have been somewhere between limited successes and disappointments. We're never going to be able to compete with City financially but it's Mourinho's jobs to find gaps in the market to help bridge that disadvantage. If he isn't doing that, then I'm not sure he's really doing his job properly.

I'd have sympathy if his hands had been tied financially for his entire spell here but that's not been the case.

You make it sound like Jose is buying players himself. It's Woodward's job. Jose just passes the list of players he would like. I am pretty sure Jose wanted to sign LB but he was probably been told by Woodward that we must sell before we buy (Shaw). Pretty sure he wanted RW as well (Willian) but it's a difficult transfer. Not everything depends on Jose you know.

I also think that , Berbatov was maybe the best transfer in the last minute. It is not good idea to make panic transfers , only for statistics.

If we do get a centre back who can actually defend and help in transition i think we will be a strong defensive block and which jkse requires, hope things work better in offensive box with pogba in mid 3 and Sanchez and Lukaku and other younger attackers.

That was quality scouting. Ferguson worked miracles but the scouts picked out Vidic and Evra. We also broke the world record for Ferdinand, without which Vidic wouldn't be as good. Some of his signings haven't been great, but you could say that of literally every other manager. If we can't compete with City financially we might as well give them the title now. I'd say it's a lack of imagination in the boardroom. Case in point - last season, Bernardo Silva is available for just 43m. No interest from United. This season, Mahrez available for just 60m, no interest. I don't think it's Mou stopping us from spending. I think orders are coming from above and we're going to slip behind Chelsea and Liverpool if this continues.

Bingo.

Glad people are finally coming round.

We spend for the CL money and even that is becoming less important because of the massive domestic TV deal and that in turn would become even more irrelevant if it ever gets to a point where United as a club negotiate TV deals independantly.

I can't believe people haven't worked this out yet.

Think this has already been voted on and will happen soon? Which is great news for the top 6, bad news for the rest of the PL. Glazers must be delighted.

Anyway, fecking shocking transfer window and chances are it's another season down the toilet, watching City or Liverpool fighting for the title.

Nah think Sandro changed his mind when Ronaldo came to Turin, its certainly not the money but lack of options Jose likes to work with with his need for workhorses in wider positions.

The idea was rejected out of hand. It's not happening anytime soon.

Dont get me wrong, I dont see a single scenario in which this transfer window works for us. I can see no signings for us and then as the window lingers on for the rest of Europe, we lose Pogba and have to wait until January to try to replace him at which point we get held to ransom for Fellaini again somehow.

Look, if we sign no one else, are we really that bad? We have a very solid core in Pogba, Sanchez, Bailly, Lukaku, De Gea, Fred, Matic, and some great players in Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Lindelof, etc. We severely under-performed last season and I for one, am willing to believe our players have a lot more to give and they will.

EDIT: In regards to our fullbacks, Valencia and Young barely put a foot wrong last season and ironically are two of the fittest players in the team. Arsenal signed Lichtensteiner, who is 34. Age is nothing but a number.

To an extent, yes - but the work that went on with such signings went beyond their initial purchase. Ronaldo still cites Fergie's influence on his career now - it's possible that without such a strong manager behind him he wouldn't have been as good as he eventually became. Similarly part of why we were so strong at the back was because Fergie managed to get Vidic and Rio working well together, each complementing the other. Mourinho's obviously not exerting complete control over transfers but he's still mostly responsible for identifying the players we want and the buck stops with him. As a manager at his best he (like Fergie) has typically been known for maximising his players and getting everything out of them - the fact Pogba and Lukaku were better during the WC than they were for certain portions of last season suggests he's not doing that here.

As you say - will depend on how those players perform. If we can get the very best out of the likes of Pogba, Sanchez and Lukaku then we've got the potential to be a force to be reckoned with. If not then we'll potentially find ourselves in a disjointed position similar to last year.

I think we lost interest in Sandro after Shaw rejected a move to Everton.

I don't think we'll be selling Pogba after our window closes here, would be stunned if that happens even if he wants to leave.

We needed a RW and City got Mahrez. We needed a RB and Liverpool got Fabinho who could've also been an addition to the midfield. And we've supposedly got two key players disgruntled and wanting to leave. Great beginning to the season.

Don't even care if we get in a CB or not. That we didn't address the RW and fullback position (apart from Dalot) I'll never understand though.

I would argue Pogba and Lukaku are better players now because of Mou's infuence. For Pogba he's taught him to be disciplined and Lukaku is now a brilliant hold up player who can score goals. His assist record was excellent as well last season. Mou improves players in ways that aren't always obvious immediately.

The full backs need sorting, and I think we are right to try to get another top class centre back. Right wing also not addressed. Of course we have some terrific players, but so far this transfer window has been a mess.

Lukaku was alright last season and showed signs of improvement after his barren spell in the middle of the season but his final season at Everton was evidently better than his first year here. Pogba's talent is obvious but his usage of it has sometimes been sparse and inconsistent. He was notoriously frustrating to watch at times last year and considering how much we paid for him you'd be hard pushed to say we've got full value for money for him thus far. He'll be expected to offer more this season for a player some perceive as the most important in our team.

Just want it to end. If Pogba wants to feck off, he can too. We’ll win nothing this season but here’s hoping that I somehow enjoy it.
