Wot, no transfers?

It's really daft that the English transfer window close before the rest of the other leagues in Europe.

Ha ha, I'm not fooled. All this Jose Mourinho flack in the media is just part of his master-plan. Focus all the attention on him - then bang - three big signings out of the blue. We purr on the pitch; the others are caught unaware. It's genius...

If there are not transfers and Jose is really desperate for a ball playing defender then play Matic as a 3rd centre-half and promote Pereira in his position. Matic is ideally suited to defend and also bringing the ball out from defence. In easier games, both Matic and Periera would be able to take more advanced positions.

I mentioned this yesterday. I think this would make sense for 352/532. But would be reckless for 433.

Most boring window for the league as a whole in years.

1. All the teams are too well off now that they can completely resist moves from bigger teams for their players.

2. Closing the window early when everywhere else is open is ridiculous.

Disaster of a transfer window for us. Of course it could be salvaged in the next few days but don't count on it.

We've not significantly strengthened at all bar the addition of Fred. God knows what's going on at centre back, we have poor full back options - which as City showed last season are vital in the modern game - and our right wing is non existent. Add to that the mass of deadwood we still have on our books, feck knows what we're playing at.

Compare that to our closest rivals Liverpool and it's been a shambles. Don't give a feck if Spurs or Chelsea haven't strengthened either, they are not our target - City are. It's like Liverpool are the only feckers who wanna challenge City this season.

I'll have what you're having.

This is my guess for what is happening as we get into the redzone of the window.

1. Toby is the number one target from Jose's list of "one more player". Toby wants to leave and Spurs know this is their last big shot at a huge fee for a player winding down their contract.

2. Spurs obviously making the negotiations a living hell because it's another great spurs player leaving for MUFC. No doubt levy is doing everything to stall and with such little time left, likely worry on both sides that a deal can't be reached in time. Hence why we aren't hearing much a part from some supposed rumours from the players camp.

3. We've put Maguire and Mina's names out there to try and force the deal forward, yet have likely kept Maguire open as a "deadline day" target, akin to the fellaini transfer.

I'm extremely biased in this as i don't want him, however I think Mina is 100% not happening. The player has openly stated he can't hack it at Barca and barca would no doubt laugh their asses off if they could get the quoted 35-40 mill for him. Yet absolutely nothing happening in a week on Mina? For a transfer that could probably happen quicker than lukaku to MUFC last year. Not buying it.

The quietness and time being taken in the last week is, imo, pointing to Toby. The speed at which we pulled off the lukaku and and sanchez deals is not some fluke. IF the club wanted some "prospect" defender like mina, this would've been wrapped up this week. Mina isn't a transfer deadline signing. For all the hate Woodward gets, including from me, the bloke can easily sign players, prospects or world class players, the bloke CAN make a transfer happen if it's there to be done.

Quietness + Time being taken = Toby.

Now when i'm wrong because i know feck all about this :D:lol: i hope i don't get too much abuse. :nervous:

I think you're right tbh. Only thing I'd say differently is that I think Mina is the back up option to Toby, as a Maguire transfer isn't viable. The Maguire leak last week pretty much gave it away for me that he was not the primary target and that news was put out to put pressure on Spurs. Also, if Mina was the primary target, we'd have signed him ages ago. We may well be negotiating a transfer for him, but imo it's to ensure that we have a deal in place for him in case the Toby deal goes sour.

Either way, we'll see in the next few days if that's right.

at the time of writing i was thinking Maguire could be easier because we'd likely splash 75-80m on him on the last day and thus allowing LEI to brag about the huge spend in the next window. However you could be right. Like i said, i'm extremely biased on Mina because i just don't want it to happen.

The only part i'm happy to speculate about is the idea that quietness + time taken = Toby. Nothing else really makes sense for the past 5 days and especially after Jose highlighted only one more player.

What was the point anyway by making this window shuts such early? The most fecking stupid decision by the F.A ever.

So another transferless day.....are we seriously only making one signing and not getting rid of anyone?

yes we are likely going to sign one more player.

We likely don't want to sell Martial inside the PL and the others (Rojo etc) will likely be moved this week coming.

Rebic, Mandzukic, Maguire, Pullisic, whoever! just sign someone! maybe I should have never been promoted. When I was a newbie, every transfer windows were exciting but this one is pretty boring. :(

Everyone saying it's been a quiet window overall, but the premier league has still spent over 1 billion so far.

Expect a crazy deadline day to be honest. If a club has dragged it's heels this long, they likely aren't going to break until the moment of maximum opportunity.

Ill also agree with this. The Mina and Maguire deal would have been done or we would have heard more about it in the press by now. Neither seems mentioned as much as last week. I think the fact in the press Alderwierald has supposedly stated he will wind down his contract if the Utd move doesnt go through will bring Levy around to dropping the price enough for the deal to go through, probably on Thursday.

Even if the window was staying open longer I genuinely don't think we'd see anything different to what we've seen for the rest of the window. We might see it get a bit busier next week for some clubs, but I don't think it'll go crazy by any means. I think this was bound to happen eventually, there's simply too much money involved now.

The EPL is probably the only league in the world were the leeches dictate the rules. United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool should defy the rules and sign players past the transfer deadline. Lets see if they would get banned afterwards.

That's novel, how do you think they would get on registering players then?

Didn't some of those teams vote for this anyway?

I think that the Mina talk is being driven by his agent. At least I hope that’s that case - it doesn’t really make much sense for us to add another inexperienced risky CB.

I think we’re closing in on Toby but my fear is what if Spurs are just “stringing us along” making it seem like they are negotiating but then at the eleventh hour they pull the rug from under us and just keep him? Would make sense as we are “top four” rivals as it stands.

The transfer would probably not register anyway, what's to defy? Could also try and field 12 players

They should force it through UEFA and the EU who insist on a level playing field for all clubs in Europe. If that doesn't work then they should consider a new league for themselves. The smaller clubs would shite in their pants with such threat. They know that no one would bother spending ridiculous money to watch West Ham playing Everton

This silly rule is crippling the EPL clubs in favour of clubs who barely bring any money to the EPL.

Maybe the owners have looked at the gap between us and City (and other top clubs in Europe) and concluded that the amount we'd have to spend to truly compete with them is not economically viable and that its a much more sustainable model to maintain us as a "top four" team with relatively minimal investment
What I said back on 10 July. This is basically what you are now saying in that thread you’ve created @sunama

as far as i have read, Spurs also face a risk in not selling him. Not only does the contract continue to wind down, but if spurs activate the 1 year extension, Toby automatically becomes available for 25 million pounds via a buyout clause. IMO, if i'm correct, we will likely pay the fee required, both sides are just playing the game.

No other signing makes sense when you combine press quietness + going into the last week. IMO, if this was a Mina signing, BBC would've run a full article by now saying we are just working out the final details. Absolute silence.

I personally think Everton are also on Mina's trails and will ditch Rojo if they get him, and our intrest in Mina is just being used to higher the price for Mina and get the best out of that deal by his agent and Barcelona and we are happy with that as it would drive up the price for Everton and they could panic push the button on Rojo instead which might get us cool 30m.

Everton secret interest in Mina makes so much sense to me.

Yeah I find it crazy that before the season starts teams have pretty much accepted that City will win the league. Never seen that before.

Just watched an Alderweireld clip och YouTube. Didn't realise how good he is at passing. Schoolesesque with driven long balls.

Can't wait for the inevitable "should we move Aldeweireld to DM" threads then.

I just can't see Leicester selling this late in the window. They're already short on CB's and I believe Evans got injured recently as well. I think Toby was always the first choice, but Spurs naturally made this deal very difficult.

Surely we're not that inexperienced to not know this. That's why I think we have several other targets that we're concurrently working on. Mina probably being the likeliest.

Looks there will be a flurry of transfers on deadline day now. Don’t expect much to happen in the next couple of days. Lots of clubs are waiting for someone else to blink.

Spurs haven’t signed anyone, Utd are in for a couple of players, Chelsea and City have only signed one player each, Arsenal have a new manager who may sign a couple more. I think there will be quite a few signings going on, but let’s wait and see - not long now.

For once, transfer deadline day might be worth watching. Clubs are playing brinkmanship to squeeze the highest possible fees out of transfers.
I think in times to come, we are going to see a lot more swap deals with prices having become so silly. Players are more like assets that can be traded for other assets.

5 days to go.
Something is up. Not even a tweet of speculation from Simon Stone. The last time Simon tweeted about our transfers was to say is:

SIX days ago.

Jose didn't say "one more player" only to end with nothing.

Think we will at least bring in 1 more player, but I hope 2 will come. We need a good winger as well as a CB.
