Wot, no transfers?

I think it's clear that if no player gets sold, there's no more incoming transfers. At least that's what I think it's really happening.

Getting annoyed at seeing stories that are saying are deadwood are leaving and then it not happening. Why has Darmian not fecked off yet? With all that noise about Rojo last night why is it so quiet today? We will need rid of them before we buy I reckon.

Would be the funniest thing in caf history if Woodward was in the US at Real Madrid’s hotel/base to arrange the signing of Bale for RW.

You would see half of the caf make a run for it untill the dust settles and the other half breaking the web.

Probably ‘cos Valencia is injured. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jose insists on hanging onto him. I’d rather play youngsters; at least they should be champing at the bit to do well. Darmian’s looking like his head and heart are already back in Italy.

It's rather we keep asking 20m pounds for him  We should be on our knees, kiss the ground, and raise our hands to heavens yelling "HALLELUJAH" that legit clubs like Napoli and Juventus are offering actual money for him.

One of the worst players I’ve seen put the shirt on to be quite honest. Over a sustained period of time anyway. He was obviously not good enough in his first season yet here he is potentially going into his 4th. Ridiculous

Basically Sassy Colin needs to make an opposite thread to this and reverse his voodoo. Wel sign within a week from there.

Can you imagine what the reaction would be if a poster had predicted after the cup final that we’d be in this position at the end of July?

We’re a bit of a joke right now.

I think the fact we are missing out on so many targets or having to negotiate harder on prices is a reflection of where we currently stand.

In the past players would have seen working with Fergie as a life long dream and playing for a team who were guaranteed trophies was a no brainer. In most cases if their clubs were playing hardball, players would help push the deal through with leaked comments, handing in transfer requests etc.

As unpopular as this will be.....Players just don't see us as one of their top destinations. You can pretend its all nonsense and i'm over reacting but its the truth. We have a manager who is very difficult to work with (not my words - previous players), the football we play is awful and doesn't encourage players freedom and trophies are no longer guaranteed.

This doesn't have to be the only way though. A change of manager (right now in my opinion), going back to our trademark attacking style, signing players who actually get the job done rather than having a big name will all contribute to making us great again. Even something like finally pushing ahead with our stadium expansion will help turn moral. Other clubs have got closer and closer in recent years to Old Traffords capacity and some will say this is irrelevant but its all part of asserting yourself as the best/biggest club in the country.

Probably mateying up with him... for our move for him in 2022

It's not unpopular, it's just wrong pal.
Times have changed since Fergie, i'm not sure if you've noticed.
If teams like Leicester can turn down 60 odd million, and offer £100k aweek, we can't just ride roughshod over them anymore.

We're hoping to bring in one more, probably a CB.
So let’s say we do bring in a CB and nothing else, then this will be our most underwhelming transfer window for many years and it could only signal that winning the premiership and/or champ lge is no longer a realistic target and merely a top 4 finish will remain the priority.

City and Liverpool fans will be laughing there socks off at us

Imagine if 2 months ago, someone had said that our biggest name signing this Summer would be Lee Grant

Although this maybe true ( To an extent) I don't think this is the real reason, its not like SAF got every single player he wanted!

Trying to turn this into another Jose bashing thread? :nono:

A clubs appeal is more than just money. Although we can still out pay and out bid most other clubs (Sanchez on almost 350k a week, I doubt Leicester could offer that) I agree that the financial power we had in the past isn't what it is now, which is why i mentioned the things i did in that paragraph. A managers calibre, the teams style of play, the stadium/facilities we can offer, the history of the club all contribute to building a team that win trophies.

My point was we are getting a lot of the other things wrong at the moment, things that should be doubled up on considering our financial power isn't what it was.

This is more revisionism. United were usually never near signing the best players in the world regardless of Fergie. There was never really a time when we regularly blew other elite clubs out of the water, financially, either.

It’s astonishing how people are re-writing history at the moment. Loads of posts about how this or that player would definitely be a SAF signing. As much as I love the man, he signed some amount of shite and very rarely signed proven World Class, or even World Class potential. Fergie absolutely loved a workhorse himself, and it took him a long time to build the club into what it became. Even then you could argue we never reached our potential because of our approach.

Exactly

United only ever had the pickings of the league. The best players in the world generally preferred Barca and Madrid long before SAF left.

It's pretty much the same now. We can get most players in the league(Sanchez, Matic, Lukaku) but will generally lose out to the top 5% of players to Madrid or Barca.

I agree. We missed out on so many elite players with Fergie in charge (Ronaldo, Batistuta, Ronaldinho, Kluivert, Shearer, Gazza).

Our strength in the transfer market was generally signing talented players before they hit their peak and moulding them into superstars.

Players such as Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Keane, Cantona, Vidic, Ferdinand, Rooney, Evra, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin and Schmeichel obviously had bundles of talent and were brilliant players, but they also improved dramatically at Old Trafford. They got better.

Of course there were some duds along the way, and we did sign "finished players" such as Sheringham, Yorke, Cole and Van der Sar, but I don't think the World's top clubs were all in for the at the time!

We tended to struggle to land the very best, so most of the time we turned our lot into the best.

i Concur. Would be funny though why not. After all luck is a key factor in football.

We must have irons in the fire surely ? If not it’s suicidal.

Well, not buying any players will save some money and I think that is what is on Woodward's mind.
Woodward was probably in the USA, to see if he could bring on board some more sponsors.

What if - we are leaving player announcements until as late as possible, just so that City have no time to counter?
Some BIG signings that make all the difference. When I look back to the past few summers, the Pogba and Lukaku signings came completely out of the blue.
Crazy I know, but one can hope...

Took almost two months!!
