Wot, no transfers?

He can have a day off when the transfer window is closed and business can’t be done. Right now we are lacking and he is out watching the poxy tennis. Priorities.

This is some insane level of delusion. What do you want him to do stay locked in his office for 24 hours a day until we sign somebody? Just because he's enjoying his life (which is the whole fecking reason he has such a stressful job btw) doesn't mean he's not trying to work.

I hope we don't get the "no transfer because Jose is out on tour" excuse again. Have not seen it for a while now so please keep it that way. I got this sneaky feeling that we are working on a big deal behind the scenes that will send everyone into a frenzy somehow - things are too quiet regarding us at the moment, and now that we have got the more "solid" transfers like Fred, Dalot and Grant settled, together with the World Cup ending, we might move on to that marquee signing that Ed loves to have every season.

I think Sanchez is a like a "Sorry we messed up" present from Ed to Jose for not getting Perisic last summer, so I don't think he can be counted as our marquee signing for 2018. Let's hope I am right and we see big movement on the transfer front soon.

How do we have no right winger by now? That's the one position we don't have any functional options. We might have erred if we put all our eggs in the Willian basket. Fat chance a new manager sells a players he hasn't had a look at. Idiotic that we weren't even in for Mahrez

Ed Woodward is such a slow coach. In retrospect, I think we have become Arsenal F.C. in terms of ambition. All Woodward cares about now is top 4 because of the CL-money.

Europa league(transfer window)
Pogba Mkhitaryan Zlatan Bailly

Champions League(transfer window)
Matic Lindelof Alexis Lukaku

Champions league transfer window 2
Dalot Fred Grant ???

Evidence clearly shows we have showed more ambition in the transfer market when we were condemned to Europa than when we qualified for CL.

Yet, Einsteins want Jose to win it all with these miserable signings. Dalot? Grant? This is what Man Utd - the biggest club in Europe has degenerated to.

I don’t see us finishing above 3rd this season. Until we get rid of Woodward and get someone as close as David Gill. City and Chelsea have shown more ambition to continue to dominate the league.

I was complaining about the lack of transfer activity at the beginning of June, in particular the length of time it takes to complete 'done deals', Dalot & Fred at the time, a number of members assured me that I should calm down, that I know nothing, the club has deals lined up etc.
So I heeded the advice, and refrained from ranting whilst waiting for things to happen, well ? What's happening ? We caved into Fellaini's demands which either blocks a new signing or a youth development,
We are still stuck with Darmian (a certainty to leave), Blind is still negotiating a move to Ajax, worrying rumours about Martial & Pogba persist while we buy a third choice keeper (big deal) and get linked to a number of 'prospects'.
The club owes it to the fans to show a desire to overthrow City and stay ahead of the rest, we could argue forever and a day about who could improve the team, (check out our touring squad), but unless Jose works wonders with what he has then I remain concerned that we are in for a mediocre season.
I know my opinion counts for nothing but I believe we still need to clear out our bloated squad and get as many as 4 first team players in, please don't quote transfer fees/wages, we're Man United.

Obviously, signing players early is always a great pleasure - but it doesn't matter as long as we get them in before the window closes. Little action thus far, signing two players that really won't make us any better in the grand scheme of things. I love the signing of Fred, hope he turns out world-class, but from the off he is probably not much better than Ander Herrera in his role. It all depends on our goals and ambitions. We all would like it to be winning the league and competing for the Champions League, but as of right now we are not even close. It's harsh and a bit sad, but no human right after all. I am pissed off we didn't get Griezmann last year when we were so close, he is the kind of player needed to turn things in our favor. A front line including Lukaku, Lingard, Mata, Rashford over 30+ league games will not be enough, not possible. Huge pressure on Sanchez to turn into the player he was before - it would help tremendously!

City and Chelsea have shown more ambition to continue to dominate the league.

Really? City have signed 1 player: Mahrez. In a position they are stacked.

Chelsea have signed Jorginho, who I would compare to Fred in terms of ability. They are rumored to be losing 2 key players in Hazard and Courtois.

We got Fred and Dalot, an accomplished midfielder in a position we really needed and a big talent. The window is not closing for almost a month.

Woodward has done extremely well the last couple of years imo.

 Nonsense. Europa league transfer window was as good as Champions League one (at least on paper). This one has still almost a month until it closes

We had only signed Lindelof & Lukaku by this exact same time last year. We will make more signings.

out of interest how do you justify that?

we have glaring weaknesses in the team and it's crazy after all the money spent we went into the FA Cup final with s defence of Young, Smalling, Jones and Valencia

a lot of it is Mourinho's fault in my opinion but Pogba, Lukaku and Sanchez are perfortming well below par and Lindelof has been a waste of money on a player who I feel deserves more of a chance. Jury is still out on Bailly who was frozen out by Jose at the end of last year.

if your point is more one of Woodward getting Jose's targets then I'd agree with you without knowing any better - Mourinho has created an unbalanced team lacking in quality in key positions

Im guessing we have been waiting to see if Bale or Willian want to come, which is massively unlikely now on both with CR7 being sold and Chelsea's new manager.

So back up will be Perisic at a vastly inflated price no doubt and hopefully Bonucci or Maguire.
Id be happy with that-- that said dreading seeing another year of Valencia/Mata COMBO down the right side.

Getting rid of Blind, Darmian Rojo and Mata would be perfect summer in terms of departures.

I'm happy to be patient, but as he has said in previous windows, Mourinho wants new transfers to be with the team on tour, to allow for integration. Lack of transfers before this point indicates either a difficulty in landing the players we want or that they are pre-occupied by the World Cup. Either way, it's not likely to have Jose overjoyed.

Every season we hear how United have signings lined up, but that never seems to be the case.

You answered your own question for the biggest part. Woodward gets a list of players and signs them for reasonable prices, without too much hassle. We all want a new LB and RW, but if Mourinho doesn't seem to want one, you can't blame Woodward.

Looking back at the crazy prices right now, Bailly, Pogba, Lukaku, Matic, Fred have been transfers that went very smoothly, under the radar and for reasonable fees. He can't be blamed for players under performing like Micky, which was imo pretty shrewd business to swap him with Sanchez.

We haven’t even improved on last season and the new season is almost upon us.

Sandro and mahrez were both available and not at the WC, both are positions we desperately need upgrades yet we’ve done nothing it seems.

Jury is out on the signings so far, one has made only a handful of senior apps and as for Fred I’m fairly confident in saying nobody knows anything about Him apart from a couple of champs league games.

We haven’t even had any solid links to any player. There’s still time but People have every right to be concerned at this point.

Granted the World Cup was on but it's going to be a tight few weeks getting two or more signings in. I'm optimistic that maybe we have talked and discussed a few of our targets for transfer while the WC was on and things will get the ball rolling now that the WC has ended.

We signed Fred before he went to the WC, so either our targets were part of the WC and are a much higher value and the selling team just doesn't want to sell until after the WC or till they get their replacements but it worries me we are leaving it this late.

Woody might go for one big hype transfer but I reckon one proper needed transfer will be done and Jose will call our summer transfer over. Dalot, Fred, Grant, resigning Fellaini and one other player. I don't think it's enough.

The jury being out on the signings we have so far? They haven't even trained with us yet ffs!

You don't get it. Fabinho is amazing, Keita is also amazing (despite playing in a weak league for a europa league team), Jorginho is also amazing. Fred is average and not good enough though (good enough for City but he chose money over Pep so he's probably average).

Hyperbolic/pessimistic as his POV may come across, it’s factually correct. How can you say a transfer is a success/failure until you’ve seen said player perform in the shirt?
The jury is out on every team's signings then but he's clearly using that in a negative light to attack Man Utd. That's why it's laughable.

City pulled out of the Fred deal in January, no?

After Sane's injury.

City pulled out because Shahktar were asking too much for him to leave in January, as he was key for their champions league games and they didn't want to lose him. Nothing to do with a winger getting injured.

I remember last year when people were slating Woodward because he was lounging on a beach somewhere and then a few days later we announced Lukaku out of nowhere. Hoping for the same again.

Considering how far behind city we are, its hard not to feel deeply pessimistic at this point.

Fred, a teenage fullback and a Fellaini payrise aren't going to close the gap.

Eerily quiet at the moment, of course theres always blind faith that something will come out of nothing like Lukaku, but I don't even see who that would be at the moment. I guess it could be an embarrassing £70m deadline day signing of Maguire :nervous:

At least we will know who by 9th August so we cant be tearing our hair out for much longer.

 David Gill. A penis and imposter in equal measure.

Remember the time we sold the world's best player and replaced him with Gabriel Obertan? Our chief executive back then was more than happy to dismantle our playing squad to service the debt acquired while he was a senior executive within the club. Unlike Woodward, he had Alex Ferguson to keep the boat afloat. David Gill's reputation borders on farcical. As is the predictable criticism coming in for Woodward - again.

If that's really it Jose might as well hand in his resignation now.
Woodward has done this the last two summer transfer windows. Jose gives him the list of players he wants, and woodward does nothing. Instead of keeping the shareholders happy by keeping their pockets full, buy the players we need to get us back as champions, not just happy with top four.

state of everyone panicking haha
It’s ridiculus. Clearly spending loads of money on so called marquee signings hasn’t worked very well in the past 4 windows.

We’ve got Alexis, Rom, Lingard, Martial, Rashford and Mata for the three or four attacking positions. If we buy another attacker we’d have to sell at least one of our current players. Personally I’d love to see Lingard and Rashford playing regularly and that won’t happen if we were to sign someone like Bale. Rashford has the potential to become a world class player. Lingard and Martial can develop further too (the latter might even become a world class player too, though I doubt it’ll happen). Lingard has had an excellent season and deserves to be starting games regularly.

We’ve paid lots of money for Fred, meaning that we have him, Pogba and Matic for the three midfield positions. And people want us to buy another midfielder? What about Fred then, that’d surely mean that he isn’t going to be a starter, then what’s the point of signing him for 50 million? People want another one because he isn’t hyped and people haven’t really watched him. It’s just silly.

We could do with another center back and it looks like we’re working on it.

People need to realize that we have a squad filled with several young players who has to develop further. We can’t just discard them and buy established players.

I’d imagine that Woody has been waiting to see what the deal is with Bale. Can he make it happen or not. Would imagine there will be some sort of movement once he gets his answer. It’s just if it’s a no what are the plans, we keep hearing defenders names but Bonucci, Alderweireld and Sandro all sound like easy enough deals. Seems a case of just pay the money. Alderweireld ok WC but he could have been done before it. So for me it looks like we are just waiting for something, before committing to other positions.

Pogba was a small-time move after all. Let's ignore he was the key to them winning the WC :wenger:

I am certain that like every other club in history and what we have done recently in buying 2 players that we can be working on and completing deals for other players at the same time. I highly doubt we would be jeopardising our other key positions just so we can sign bale.

I can't get my head around the idea that we can't do more than 1 thing at a time. I can understand if it is around options for the same position but otherwise We are not a one-man shop.

Money!! Getting Bale would be a huge investment with fee, wages, agents bonuses whatever else. Sure they maybe have other things underway, lined up but completing these actions could depend on if they can say get Bale or not. His signing might eat up the wage/transfer budget hence putting a Kabosh on what else they had planned.
