Wot, no transfers?

Seems to be like it's taking a while for 2 reasons.

1: we need to clear squad space first. Moving Blind / Darmian + whoever else he wants out.

2: Our main targets could be involved with the world cup. Perisic seems likely, Maguire perhaps?

I think once the holidays end we'll see some quick movement.

Let's not forget many deals are being done behind the scenes, we'll have some news soon.

"Once the holidays end" the window will be closed because the season will have started!

Mourinho likes to publicly state when he is finished in the transfer window, and it's as quiet as ever so something's brewing behind the scenes.

Yep, he is one of the most frank and upfront on these matters. Perhaps in the first of these press conferences coming up some Journo might ask the question and we will have a better idea on the state of play.

After the Sandro PSG rumours picked up, I'm beginning to accept that Toby Alderweirald is likely to be our last signing and we'll just have to rely on Ashley Young and Mata for LB/RW.

Think bale was pretty much killed off by the Times article and Sandro rumours are picking up. Only thing i've see a credible/positive story on was Toby to us, and that was a while ago now.

If nothing else, the World Cup demonstrated the pool of new talent is less than it's ever been. Its all good talking about signings but who's out there that you can offer something different to come here than they already have at their respective clubs? Long gone are the days that we would have first dibs on the best English talent. Even City have been pied with their last two signings with players choosing probably more money elsewhere. I think winning football games are now based on your past transfer business, locking down your best players to long contracts and not on your current business as most of it will likely be even more of a complete lottery and like Fred, you'll have to pay 50m for the ticket.

If clubs are smart, they seriously need to revisit their youth policy. It's not just about saving money, it's about growing your own given there is a famine in talent....

Screw it, I don't care about potential newcomers. As long as we can improve the quality of play we'll be better than last season. There's Sanchez for the RW spot, just use him there instead of drooling over someone who doesn't want to come. As for LB, I have no doubt that in the manager's eyes Young is the one. It doesn't look like we'll be adding to it. At RB we've got a few options in addition to the manager's trusted Valencia. CB is a tricky one, since we've added 2 is consecutive summers both of whom haven't established themselves. We're just stockpiling CBs at this point. Let's not forget Tuanzebe and Mensah.

We're still desperately crying out for a LB and RW. If we're holding out for Bale, we're more stupid than we look.

We have Fosu and Tuanzebe who can fill the RB or CB berths, Dalot can also play both sides.
I think our main objective should be a skillful creative Right Winger, who can score and create chances for others. Then Mourinho has to change his tactics also, and Play more offensive.

How many more signings do you guys think we will make this window? And I’m excluding irrelevant signings like Grant lol

With the World Cup only just finished 2 days ago, where lots of players will be going on holiday now and a shorter transfer window, we have just over 3 weeks to conclude any deals. Initially I was remaining calm because I accepted the World Cup is on and that it would not only put us on hold but other clubs too when it comes to making transfers. However, other clubs have now made some signings or are on the verge of making some signings and I am worrying slightly now. :nervous:

If anything, I would obviously like us to conclude deals silently without anyone such as the media knowing and then BOOM a signing comes out of the blue. Since Mourinho has come in, many of our deals have come unexpected and because of that I am still confident we will get some players in and when I say get some players in, I’m not talking about plan C or D players, but our plan A or B targets for the positions we are looking at. I just hope and I believe we were, working on deals behind the scenes during the World Cup and we are just now waiting for the player(s) to return from holidays etc. I could be wrong and we were not working on anything at all or the deals we were trying to conclude stalled.

After we signed Fred and Dalot I was hoping we would still sign a LB, CB, RW and maybe even another CM, so 3-4 more players but Fellaini signed a new deal since so that rules out a CM I say. However, with such short time remaining of the window, I do not see us signing that many players, unless we have like I said above, been working on deals during the World Cup. If not then I do not see us signing more than 2 players and I think that would be a RW and a CB. Depending on who the RW and CB are, we could potentially challenge for the league and progress further in the CL, even though I and many fans would consider the LB position the area we need strengthening the most. If the RW and/or CB signings are underwhelming signings, unfortunately I think it may be another long season ahead :(. Unless our current players like Sanchez and Pogba really up their game and play consistently to or close to a world-class level as they are our 2 most outstanding outfield players. Saying that, that would only be achieved in my opinion if Mourinho changes his ways slightly and allow us to play with more freedom.

We believe in you Ed Woodward!

I think we'll do well to sign all three of CB, RW and LB. I reckon we'll end up with 2 of them, depending on if Bale is available or not.

One. Either Sandro or Toby. IMO, likely to be Toby as he has much more incentive to leave and tottenham will likely want to sell at top dollar before his contract dips and he is cheap as chips.

I agree, we would do extremely well to sign all 3 in the next 3 week. Hopefully we have a few backup options incase Bale does stay at Real, which I think he will but you never know...

I think Sandro is needed more but like you mentioned, I think Alderweireld is the more likely one. If we only added Toby to our squad I would be very disappointed.

Need at least 2 more players who can walk into the starting 11 at least if you ask me.

From the sounds of it, it appears to be either Bale or Willian. We may end up with neither, so I wonder if in that case we just sign a LB and CB and call it a window, or if there are other options we'd pursue.

I'd like to sign 3 more, i just don't see it happening. Jose either gets his main targets or moves on. I actually think Sanchez / perisic would've been considered top picks, however at the time sanchez was not likely for us in many respects. City pissing around made Sanchez available.

I don't judge Sanchez based off one Jan transfer window, he needs this pre-season. I'm happy we have him.

My thinking regarding the transfers: Sandro is our top LB target, likely by a country mile. However jose also trusts the maturity of Young. If Sandro is unlikely due to Shaw needing to leave and price, as some PSG reports and the Times are now stating, it's a hard deal to do.

Toby = Wants to leave, spurs want to make bank before he's useless as a bargain chip, also a top CB with leadership potential. It ticks all the Jose boxes and is very achievable in 3 weeks.

RW = Bale, likely not leaving after receiving his promise for game time. Perisic, likely not leaving after Jose openly stated on world cup coverage that we wanted him and missed out. I don't think he would've said that if he was a target. Willian, likely seen as a back up option that is seen as less required due to the likes of Mata and lingard.

This is all on top of the fact that we are not hearing any Tier 1 Rumours. Like I said, could be wrong. however looking at this logically and without extreme hyperbole. One player is easily achievable and our other options are likely not ready to leave etc.

As i said before, if we sign Toby in about a week and a bit, don't be shocked to see jose confirm on MUTV that we have finished business.

You don't care about newcomers you say as long as we inprove the quality of play.

I think you have failed to come to terms with the fact that the style of play under Mourinho will not change. The only hope I harbour to bridge the gap with City is buying more quality. Simple.

We have already seen the best of Young and Valencia in the full-back positions and we have known it is not "title-winning best".

Unless you have resigned to see us finish 2nd-4th, what you just said will never win us the league.

How on earth are people thinking we'll get Alderweireld when Simon Stone from BBC has said we're not planning to go after him. He is almost never wrong.

Something is off we need atleast 2 players (LB, RW) yet find ourselves very quiet in the market, I could only think we’re trying to offload first but that’s a risky game with the transfer window closing a month early.

Basing it on other reports in contrast to Simon from earlier in the window. Like i said, could be wrong. I've not heard of one other even semi-reliable rumour on CB options a part from toby.

Barcelona seem to be interested in Willian. Chelsea would rather sell to them but not sure where Willian would rather go, as he is more likely to get more gametime with us but Barcelona is Barcelona and with him being Brazilian too, he may be tempted to move there. I would like Willian but he wouldn't be my first choice RW option.

Another day passes and no incomings and it's getting depressing.

Back in 2011 (was that that Summer we bought RVP?), Fergie laid the ground work to winning the title, by buying RvP.
In 2018, we are laying the ground work to drop down the table and fight for 4th place.
While LFC are strengthening, as are MCFC (let's face it, they have bought a fantastic RW and that's all they need to maintain their 20 point lead), MUFC are going backwards, putting faith in a 35 yr old GK, a 19 yr old with 6 games under his belt and Fred, who has only played in a very poor league. It really does feel that the board have settled for a top 4 finish - that's Jose's target this season.

What the hell are you on about?

I doubt we'll buy him, due to the cost.
We are looking for value in the market.
Most likely, we will look to buy a foreign defenders, who would cost less.
I think Bonucci was the guy touted, for around £30M.

You can check the tier list of the reddevils reddit. It's actually very good. Simon Stone is one of the most trustworthy journalists out there for United. He regularly gets fed directly from clubs. It happened with the Sanchez transfer where he had the exact details of his contract from City or an agent. He also knew why Sanchez didn't go with the squad on tour and even gave the exact reason why his Visa was delayed/rejected.

'Other reports' doesn't mean much. Largely because the vast majority of reports are completely made up.

While some of the reaction is slightly overboard, the people who are so laid back are probably just as bad to be honest.

If things stay as they are, chances are we are finishing 3rd at best.

The horrible thing is that best case scenario now, we will add probably 2 more. Not enough to close the gap unfortunately.

Jose won't play offensive, until he has a defensive line which he trusts.
I mean, let's be honest, would you trust, Phil Jones and Smalling as our CBs? With Valencia (who is okay as RB) and Young (who is a terrible defender)?
LVG and Jose have both used 2 DMs to help protect our defenders, because they simply can't be trusted. Phil Jones especially, has proved on numerous occasions that he is an accident waiting to happen.

I think a lot of fans are realising we're not as chequebook happy as made out to be.
That miracle worker Klopp with the poor mans 300m first 11 could be catching Jose up net spend wise.

I agree Simon is Tier 1, that's 100% no doubt. However Simon Also reported interest in May

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44240320

Now things could've easily changed over the last few months and simon is now reporting the accurate story on Toby. However until i get another CB name next to a tier 1 source. I'll stick to my toby pick.

This team can challenge for the title on the condition Mourinho gets the absolute maximum from it, especially the attackers.

It happens every season, with people expecting us to completely revamp the first 11 with world class players all over the pitch. We spend £100-200m net per season. We aren't going to splash £300m in one window.

Simon Stone said we were interested in him. Then said more recently that we did not plan to get him anymore. So the latest tier 1 news is that we are not planning on getting him.

This is in the same tweet that gave the details of the Blind transfer a few days before it happened. There is no doubt in my mind that we are not planning on going for Alderweireld. Of course that can change but not at the moment.

I wonder if there are any chances of Dembele moving from Barca. With Coutinho, Messi and Suarez and they were after Griezman aswell so presumably they are looking to offload him. Hopefully we are working behind the scenes on this deal. He will be an amazing signing and sort out our RW. Plus they signed him for a huge amount and he jas been a flop till now so they maybe willing to take a hit and sell us for 60 odd million pounds.
