If he manages to sell Young, Cleverley and Anderson and bring in a centre back and one more midfielder, he will be known as King Woody.

That's pretty much the crux of it, as i see things. Departures is as important to really endear him to the most vigilant United fan, as signing players is. Woody may be a Glazer apologist, but to my happiness he looks at likes of Bayern Munich and how they operate. He thought United needed modernising in the very same way. Quite the visionary.

I've been doing the same thing.
Last season was the worst for me football-wise, there were times both here and on the pitch it looked like the abyss and now it looks as if we are finally getting back on track.

Can't wait for the new season!
Not before Vidal embarks on the helicopter bound for the AON Complex !!!

Always knew woody would come through, having learnt some rather tough lessons last summer. If he comes through with a couple more juicers, then I reckon the Old Trafford Crowd might create a chant for him....and that would probably be a first..!!

The suspiciously scouse sounding man standing outside Old Trafford on SSN made mention of how last year Moyes was appointed in May but didn't take up the role until July and suggested this may have been the reason why he struggled to get players in. Van Gaal is at a pissing World Cup and he's managing it.

I think we will start selling players once Van Gaal has finished with the Netherlands think he will want to get a closer look the players. As for Woodward it's good to see he has learnt from the mistakes of last year.

To be fair, Woody did not start his role till July either. Van Gaal has signed, held discussions before the World Cup and left Woody to work on it.

Moyes, did not have anyone to go do deals for him whilst he waited to start the job.

Honestly I suspect it has less than we think to do with the two managers (aside from the fact that going to work with LvG is a much more appealing prospect) and more to do with the fact that this summer Woodward knows he can't afford to hold out for good prices because his head's on the block. I don't know how much of the media rumours about Fabregas last season I believe, but if any of them are true then we baulked at paying for him what we've just paid for Luke Shaw. Clearly Woody's decided that this summer he's going to have to spend whatever it takes to get us the right players.

Plus it's probably easier for him to do that what with the big Chevy deal secured and the big Nike renegotiation presumably on its way to a conclusion.

I doubt if Woody actually started on 1st July, that's just when he officially began, I bet once Gill announced he was leaving the transition of responsibilities began gradually from that point on. Moyes should have upon completion of the 2012/13 season thrown himself into the job, not buggered off on holiday for a month and a half.

Or he is just working with a decisive manager and besides if you do not know which Fabregas related rumour to believe how come you are lamenting our supposed 'baulking' at paying that reported fee ? We will never know what actually happened last summer and now it's pointless to keep going back to that miserable period in our history, it's water under the bridge and it appears that lessons have been learned albeit the hard way, unnecessarily.

Calm down, I'm not lamenting anything. Just making an observation. I don't really give a feck about last summer; as you say, water under the bridge.

This just shows what competence looks like. Goes to show that people were perhaps making excuses with the 'erm, it isn't July 1st yet, the window isn't even open' line.

I make it June 27th and £60m spent already.

Honestly have been impressed by how the club have gone about things this Summer. Looks like lessons have been learned: you would expect executives on 6 figure salaries to learn fast and not make the same mistakes twice.

Signing players is only one facet of his job. From what we know of the others, he seems to be doing a good job. Yeah, he had a bad summer last time around, but he seems to have learned from that, if the last couple of deals are anything to go by. And yeah, he looks like a ridiculous little hobgoblin, but if he continues in the same vein this summer it'll be hard to complain too much.

I honestly think it was Dave's dithering that was the number one reason for the shambles of our transfer window last year. Seems like he just couldnb't make a decision, which makes it hard for Woodward et al to actually get players.

How come we don't get a picture of the great man with the new signings? The club is doing a disservice by limiting Woody's face time. I for one like to Woody's rapey face next to young footballers.

It does seem like it now, especially with reports about how woody has been in daily contact with LVG and that coinciding with us being decisive with our 2 purchases. Moyes just didn't know what he wanted, LVG does. That's the difference.

Or it could just be that Woody has learned from the mistakes of last year. We really don't know and we shouldn't be drawing conclusions based purely on speculation. Let's just be happy that things appear to be going better this year.

Very wise advice indeed. We don't know how things went on and it doesn't matter anyway anymore.
